Subway and rail service changes: May 3-6, 2024

There are service changes on the subway, LIRR, and Metro-North this weekend. Here's how that will affect how you get around.

Welcome to the first weekend in May! Whether you're taking part in the Five Boro Bike Tour or attending the first concert of the season at Forest Hills Stadium, we hope you have some fun plans this weekend. If you're participating in the bike tour, please avoid certain stations in Lower Manhattan that aren't well-equipped to handle large number of bikes.

If you're traveling to JFK airport this weekend, note that  trains aren't running to Howard Beach-JFK Airport and  trains aren't running to Sutphin Blvd-Archer Av-JFK Airport. Take the  to Sutphin Blvd-Archer Av-JFK Airport or the LIRR to Jamaica. The LIRR is accommodating subway riders at no additional cost between Brooklyn and Queens.

And a note for our 14 St riders: The passageway between the ​​​​​ and ​​​ stations is closed this weekend. A free out-of-station street transfer is available using OMNY or MetroCard.

Here's what else is happening this weekend (also available in handy map form):

  • ​ trains aren't stopping at Van Cortlandt Park-242 St.
  • ​ trains aren't running between Euclid Av and Lefferts Blvd/Howard Beach-JFK Airport.
  • ​​ trains are running on the ​ between W 4 St-Washington Sq and Jay St-MetroTech.
  • ​ trains aren't running between Kings Hwy and Coney Island-Stillwell Av and Brooklyn-bound  trains are running on the  from Jackson Hts-Roosevelt Av to 5 Av/53 St.
  •  trains aren't running between Court Sq and Bedford-Nostrand Avs.
  •  trains aren't running between Jamaica Center-Parsons/Archer and Broadway Junction.
  •  trains aren't running between 8 Av and 14 St-Union Sq.
  •  ​trains aren't stopping at Coney Island-Stillwell Av.
  • 96 St-bound ​ trains are running on the ​ from DeKalb Av to Canal St.

Major subway service changes

 trains, the Bronx

 trains aren't stopping at Van Cortlandt Park-242 St in either direction from 4:45 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday because of track maintenance.

  • For service to/from Van Cortlandt Park-242, take free shuttle buses, which are running between Van Cortlandt Park-242 St and 238 St.
  •  trains are running between 238 St and South Ferry every 8 minutes.

 trains, Brooklyn and Queens

 trains aren't running between Euclid Av and Lefferts Blvd or Howard Beach-JFK Airport in either direction from 3:30 a.m. Saturday to 10 p.m. Sunday. This is because of track replacement.

  • For service between Euclid Av and Lefferts Blvd/Howard Beach-JFK Airport, take free shuttle buses, which are running along two routes:
    • Local, making all  stops between Euclid Av and Lefferts Blvd/Howard Beach-JFK Airport.
    • Express between Euclid Av and Howard Beach-JFK Airport, running nonstop in the Howard Beach-bound direction and stopping only at Aqueduct-N Conduit Av in the Euclid Av-bound direction.
    • When exiting the subway at Euclid Av or Howard Beach-JFK Airport, get a GO Ticket from a station agent to re-enter.
  • The LIRR will accommodate subway riders between Brooklyn and Queens for no additional cost at Atlantic Terminal, Nostrand Av, East New York, and Jamaica.
  • For service to JFK Airport, take the  to Sutphin Blvd-Archer Av-JFK Airport.
  •  trains are running in two sections:
    • Between Inwood-207 St and Euclid Av, every 12 minutes during the day and evening.
    • Between Howard Beach-JFK Airport and Far Rockaway-Mott Av.

 trains, Brooklyn and Manhattan

 trains are running on the  in both directions between W 4 St-Washington Sq and Jay St-MetroTech from 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of track maintenance.

  • For service to/from Spring St, Canal St, and Chambers St (World Trade Center), take the .
  • For service to/from Fulton St, take the , or use nearby World Trade Center .
  • For service to/from High St, use nearby York St .

 trains, Brooklyn, Manhattan, and Queens

 trains aren't running between Kings Hwy and Coney Island-Stillwell Av in either direction from 12:15 a.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Monday because of signal modernization.

  • For service between Kings Hwy and Coney Island-Stillwell Av, take free shuttle buses, which are making all  stops.
  • For direct service between Manhattan/Downtown Brooklyn and Coney Island, take  trains. Until 11:45 p.m. Saturday, you can also take the .
  •  trains are running between Jamaica-179 St and Kings Hwy.

Brooklyn-bound  trains are running on the  from Jackson Hts-Roosevelt Av to 5 Av/53 St from 11:45 p.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Monday because of close-out work from the 63 St project.

  • For service to bypassed stations, and service from 21 St-Queensbridge and Roosevelt Island, take a Jamaica-bound .
  • For service from Lexington Av/63 St, take a downtown  to 34 St-Herald Sq and transfer to a Brooklyn-bound .
  • For service from 57 St, take downtown  trains from nearby 57 St-7 Av to 34 St-Herald Sq and transfer to a Brooklyn-bound .

 trains, Brooklyn and Queens

 trains aren't running between Court Sq and Bedford-Nostrand Avs in either direction from 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of signal modernization.

  • For service between Court Sq and Bedford-Nostrand Avs, take free B98 shuttle buses, which are making all  stops.
    • When exiting the subway at Court Sq, Metropolitan Av/Lorimer St, or Bedford-Nostrand Avs, get a GO Ticket from a station agent to re-enter.
  •  trains are running between Bedford-Nostrand Avs and Church Av.

 trains, Brooklyn and Queens

 trains aren't running between Jamaica Center-Parsons/Archer and Broadway Junction in either direction from 11:30 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of station improvement work.

  • Free shuttle buses are running between Jamaica Van-Wyck  and Broadway Junction, making all  stops between 121 St and Broadway Junction.
    • When exiting the subway at Jamaica-Van Wyck or Broadway Junction, get a GO Ticket from a station agent to re-enter.
  • For service to Jamaica Center-Parsons/Archer and Sutphin Blvd-Archer Av-JFK Airport, take the .
  • The LIRR will accommodate subway riders between Brooklyn and Queens for no additional cost at Atlantic Terminal, Nostrand Av, East New York, and Jamaica.
  •  trains are running between Broad St and Broadway Junction.

 trains, Manhattan

 trains aren't running between 8 Av and 14 St-Union Sq in either direction from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of structural maintenance.

  • For service between 8 Av, 6 Av, and 14 St-Union Sq, take free L92 shuttle buses or the M14.
    • When exiting the subway at these stations, get a GO Ticket from a station agent to re-enter.
  •  trains are running between 14 St-Union Sq and Canarsie-Rockaway Pkwy, every 8 minutes during the day and evening.

 trains, Brooklyn

 trains aren't stopping at Coney Island-Stillwell Av in either direction from 11:45 p.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Monday because of signal maintenance.

  • For service to/from Coney Island-Stillwell Av, take free shuttle buses, which are running between 86 St and Coney Island-Stillwell Av.
    • When exiting the subway at 86 St or Coney Island-Stillwell Av, get a GO Ticket from a station agent to re-enter.
  • For direct service between Manhattan/Downtown Brooklyn and Coney Island, take  trains.
  •  trains are running between Astoria-Ditmars Blvd and 86 St.

  trains, Brooklyn and Manhattan

96 St-bound  trains are running on the  from DeKalb Av to Canal St from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of station improvement work.

  • At Canal St, uptown  trains are stopping at the  platform.

Other subway service changes

 trains, the Bronx

Manhattan-bound  trains aren't stopping between E 180 St and 3 Av-149 St from 3:45 a.m. Saturday to 10 p.m. Sunday because of structural maintenance.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a Wakefield-bound  or Eastchester-bound  train.
  • During the day and evening,  trains are running every 12 minutes and  trains are running every 20 minutes.

 trains, Manhattan

Downtown  and local  trains are making express stops between 125 St and 14 St-Union Sq from 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of station improvement work. 

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take an uptown local train.

 trains, Queens

Flushing-bound  trains are making express stops between 74 St-Broadway and Mets-Willets Point from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 3:30 a.m. Monday because of station improvement work.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a Manhattan-bound train.
  • During the day and evening,  trains are running every 8 minutes.

 trains, Manhattan

Downtown  and local  trains aren't stopping between 125 St and 59 St-Columbus Circle from 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of track maintenance.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take an uptown local train.

 trains, Brooklyn

Manhattan-bound local  trains are making express stops between 36 St and Grand St during overnight hours from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 6:30 a.m. Saturday, 11 p.m. Saturday to 6 a.m. Sunday, and 10:45 p.m. Sunday to 5 a.m. Monday. This is because of station improvement work.

  • For local service between 36 St and Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr, take the .
  • For service to/from DeKalb Av, take  trains.

 trains, Queens

From 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday, Forest Hills-bound  and Jamaica-bound local  trains are making express stops from Queens Plaza to Forest Hills-71 Av and Jamaica-bound local  trains are making express stops from 21 St-Queensbridge to Forest Hills-71 Av. This is because of track maintenance.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a Manhattan-bound local train.

Long Island Rail Road service changes

Babylon and West Hempstead branches

Trains aren't stopping at St. Albans in either direction from 10:30 p.m. Friday to 2 a.m. Monday because of accessibility improvement work.

Metro-North Railroad service changes

Port Jervis Line

Trains aren't running between Suffern and Port Jervis all day Saturday and Sunday because of track work and bridge maintenance.

  • Buses connect Ramsey-Route 17 station with all stops between Sloatsburg and Port Jervis.
  • For service to Hoboken and New York from Otisville and Salisbury Mills, consider using nearby Middletown or Harriman stations instead.
    • Only local bus service, which does not connect with trains at Ramsey-Route 17, is available at Otisville and Salisbury Mills.
  • Trains are running between Hoboken and Suffern on a modified schedule with no express trains.
