Subway
Extension — Hudson Yards Rezoning and Development Program
Current Conditions
The Hudson Yards provides the land and infrastructure to accommodate the additional commercial and office space needed to sustain New York City’s economic growth and global competitiveness into the 21st Century, because it is an area that is
- large, currently zoned primarily for moderate-density manufacturing uses and contains relatively few residences,
- underused under its current zoning, which limits new development in much of the area,
- full of contiguous, appropriately-sized development sites, and
- adjacent to West Midtown, which is served by major regional rail and bus facilities.
Integrating new residential and commercial uses with expanded public open space in the Hudson Yards will provide a broad range of opportunities for people to live, work in and visit a new, vibrant 24-hour neighborhood served by an efficient and effective transit system.
