RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for the administration of newly assigned claims reported to workers’ compensation.
- Review and establish claims on the Risk Management Information System.
- Conduct claim investigations to include, but not limited to, site visits, interviewing witnesses, and identifying cases requiring surveillance.
- Consult with in-house medical staff to evaluate employees’ injuries and agency exposure.
- Review medical invoices to ensure compliance with NYS Workers’ Compensation Medical Fee Schedule.
- Review appropriate documents to facilitate decisions on pre-existing medical conditions, or injuries that may require further investigation.
- Conduct claim reviews for analysis/evaluations of independent medical examinations, peer reviews, liens, issues of subrogation and developing action plans for proactive claims management.
- Establish and maintain appropriate reserves, and negotiate economical settlements within designated authority limits.
- Responsible for managing detailed financial functions associated with daily disbursements.
- Direct defense counsel in the management of litigated cases.
- Conduct Internet and other research with respect to identifying fraudulent claims and potential trends.
- Process statutory WCB forms, awards and decisions in compliance with applicable regulations.
- Maintain file archives consistent with preserving WCB records.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelors’ Degree in a related field with three years experience in a workers’ compensation environment is required, and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Excellent written and verbal skills are required.
- Must be proficient in MS Word and MS Excel.
- Basic investigative skills and an understanding of workers’ compensation fraud is required.
- Must be able to review and analyze information.
- Prior billing or accounts payable experience is a plus.
