The Main Line Corridor Improvements Project

What Can Be Done to Improve Safety and Convenience?

The LIRR is planning for the future... through the Main Line Corridor Improvements Project, efforts to alleviate these conditions will be pursued, including grade crossing eliminations, station enhancements and additional track capacity.

This heavily traveled corridor is burdened by eight highway grade crossings, which are crossed by 83,000 vehicles per day. The Main Line Corridor Improvements Project will evaluate the possible replacement of five of the eight crossings. The remaining three are being addressed by the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT). The grade crossing locations being evaluated include:

Covert Avenue — New Hyde Park
12th Street — New Hyde Park
New Hyde Park Road — New Hyde Park
School Street — Westbury
Urban Avenue — New Cassel
