Extra Service to Billy Joel Concerts
Taking the MTA Long Island Rail Road to Billy Joel’s “Last Play at Shea” concerts on July 16 and July 18 will be the best way to get into “A New York State of Mind” for an enjoyable evening. The LIRR will be providing additional eastbound and westbound trains to Shea Stadium so you can get there easily whether you’re coming from “Cold Spring Harbor” or the “Miracle Mile.”
Train service to Shea Stadium is available on eastbound Port Washington Branch trains from Penn Station and westbound trains from Great Neck and Port Washington. The train ride is just 18 minutes from Penn Station to Shea Stadium. For those traveling on the LIRR from Long Island, the Stadium is just six minutes from Woodside, 16-17 minutes from Great Neck and 27 minutes from Port Washington.
“Piano Man” fans traveling from branches other than Port Washington can reach Shea Stadium by taking a regularly scheduled train to Woodside Station, then changing to an eastbound Port Washington Branch train. Since Shea Stadium is located in Zone 1, tickets to that zone from outlying stations are valid to Shea. However, passengers must retain their ticket stubs and inform ticket collectors of their intention to travel to Shea Stadium. Tickets will be collected at Shea after customers disembark.
Since heavier than normal travel is expected for the concert, some trains may be held at Shea Stadium Station past their scheduled leaving time in order to accommodate the boarding of as many customers as possible.

The following Main Line trains will have added Woodside stops for the concerts:

Westbound: 7:49 PM from Long Beach, 5:56 PM from Far Rockaway, 6:09 PM,
