175th Anniversary - Customer Appreciation Days

MTA Long Island Rail Road is marking its 175th anniversary in 2009, but LIRR customers will be the ones getting the gifts. To thank riders for their patronage, the LIRR will hold Customer Appreciation Days as follows:

Time: 6 - 8 AM
Place: Ronkonkoma Station Plaza
Prizes: New York Auto Show Tickets, Tanger Coupons Books for the Arches at Deer Park

Date: Tuesday, April 21
Time: 7 AM - 7 PM
Place: Penn Station 34th Street Corridor
Prizes: Family 4-Packs of Tickets to: Mets (1-4 pack), Kooza by Cirque du SoleilĀ®, (1-4 pack), Macys Herald Square (4-$100 Gift Certificates), Rock Annex (2-4 packs), Bodies the Exhibition (2-4 packs); 200 Round Trip Rail Tickets compliments of Kooza by Cirque du SoleilĀ®, Tanger Coupon Books for the Arches at Deer Park.

The LIRR is the busiest commuter railroad in North America, carrying 87.4 million customers last year, with over 300,000 traveling each weekday on 735 daily trains. Chartered on April 24, 1834, it is also the oldest railroad in the U.S. still operating under its original name. The Railroad is comprised of over 700 miles of track on 11 different branches, stretching from Montauk - on the eastern tip of Long Island - to Penn Station in the heart of Manhattan, approximately 120 miles away. Along the way, the LIRR serves 124 stations in Nassau, Suffolk, Queens, Brooklyn and Manhattan.
