Discounted Tickets and a Tan!
Dr. VonDark's Tunnel of Terror: Splish SplashFrom Long Beach ... to Jones Beach ... to the beaches on Fire Island and beyond - when the weather turns and the water warms, our Long Island is a summer wonderland.
Well, the skies have been blue for a little while, and the water temperature is hovering around the 70 degree mark ... so we think you should go find your bathing suits and get busy deciding which of our discounted beach packages is best for you and yours.
You can learn about our packages, including LIRR fares and beach admission fees, on our website.
For those of you who like the idea of frolicking in the waves-n-water ... but don’t want to get any sand between your toes ... we suggest that you aim your flip-flops at the Splish Splash Water Park in Riverhead! It’s Metro New York’s largest family water park, has been voted one of America's Top-5 water parks, and this year features a new ride ... Dr. Von Dark's Tunnel of Terror!
By taking advantage of our Splish Splash Package you'll save some money on the cost of travel, and on admission to the park as well. You and your group will take the LIRRto Ronkonkoma, and then ride a shuttle bus to the park. This special package is available weekdays, weekends and holidays through September 8, 2009. Be sure to Buy Before Boarding, as these packages are not sold on our trains. Want more details? ... just visit our website ... or call us at 718-217-LIRR; 516-822-LIRR; or 631-231-LIRR.

U.S. Open Scoreboard ... and a Dramatic Rescue
The 2009 U.S. Open Golf Championship was one for the books ... an incredible "week and a day" of golf at its best and a record numbers of fans choosing the LIRR to get to the action.  When the final putt dropped we went to our own scoreboard and noted that nearly 1/3 of those attending the event used our trains to get there.
We carried tens of thousands of customers from all over the country, and all around the world, to our Farmingdale Station ... coordinated with a fleet of LI Bus buses ... and the operation was as smooth as a freshly rolled green.Dramatic Rescue On Friday, June 19

Dramatic Rescue On Friday, June 19, the second morning of U.S. Open Championship play, LIRR train crewmembers and MTA Police officers in Penn Station (pictured above holding a defibrillator) assisted a customer who was experiencing what appeared to be a heart attack. Their quick reaction resulted in a life-saving and dramatic rescue. We take this opportunity to applaud them.

Service to the McCartney Concert? ... Yeah, Yeah, Yeah!
We'll be providing additional train service to Mets-Willets Point Station for each of McCartney's three concert performances at Citi Field (July 17, 18 and 21).
Be sure that you buy your "tickets to ride" before boarding the train. We mention this as "the day trippers" among you may not know that tickets purchased onboard are more expensive. Visit our website for the details.

Special Seating
A few years ago, at the request of one of your fellow riders, we asked that our customers be aware of the LIRR’s rules and regulations about seating for elderly and disabled customers. It seems that this would be a good time to remind everyone that:
Some seating in the end sections of  our cars is reserved for customers with special needs. If you are using one of those seats, please be mindful of the rules when a disabled customer or an infirm senior citizen enters the area. Make sure that they have the option of using the special seating that was created for them.
