Buy Before Boarding

You will save money by purchasing your tickets prior to boarding the train. Tickets purchased on board the train cost from $5.75 - $6.50 more if ticket machines are available, or the ticket office is open at your boarding station. The higher on board fare does not apply to Senior Citizens, People with Disabilities or Medicare customers, except during the westbound AM Peak hours. For more details go to Ticket Information.

You may purchase your tickets at ticket offices, from Ticket Machines, while on board the train and/or through our Mail&Ride system. Ticket Machines are available throughout the system. Customers can check our Stations page for the type and exact location of these machines. Station pages also have Ticket Office hours, parking, taxi, bus, accessibility, waiting room hours and driving directions.

MetroCards
Pre-valued MetroCards good for use on NYC subways & buses may be purchased separately at LIRR ticket machines or combined with LIRR monthly or round trip tickets. They can also be purchased at LIRR ticket offices if you are buying an LIRR ticket at the same time. The following values are currently available:

• $4.50 Round-trip (2 rides); available at all ticket offices and machines except Red "Daily Tickets" machines
• $20 ($21.40 value) are available at all ticket machines.
• $45 MetroCard ($48.15 value) is available with monthly tickets at all ticket offices and machines except Red "Daily Tickets" machines.
