What We Procure
The Contracts, Planning & Construction and Major Projects Department is responsible for procuring third party Design, Construction and Equipment necessary to support the Capital Program.
In addition to the current advertisements seen in the "Current Opportunities" section of our Web site, upcoming solicitations for projects included in the (proposed) 2001-2004 Capital Program, are listed below:
I. Architectural / Engineering - Architectural / Engineering services include, but are not limited to those functions necessary to provide the design of contemplated construction projects, the supervision of projects during construction, and the design or planning of operational aspects of facilities such as the following:
- Preparation of preliminary studies, sketches, layout plans, and reports;
- Cost estimates of the proposed project and of all structures, utilities and appurtenances;
- Master planning indicating the configuration, siting and integrated arrangement of all buildings, structures, roadways, utilities, track, signals and communication and support areas;
- Preparation of designs, plans and specifications for construction
- Review of the adequacy of shop and working drawings
The proposed 2001-2004 Capital Program includes the following A&E investments to further the Railroad's long-term strategy:
- Development and installation of a new fiber-optic network infrastructure that will replace existing microwave system.
- Installation of the LIRR's first Communications-Based Train Control (CBTC) , which will run from Babylon to Speonk.
- Microprocessor Equipment for Queens and Hollis Interlockings
- Environmental Impact Studies of Port Jefferson and Mainline Third Track
II. Construction - Public Works Contracts to be solicited via Sealed Bid, for improvements to LIRR Capital facilities and equipment. The 2001-2004 Capital Program currently includes:
- Ronkonkoma , Long Beach, Port Washington yard expansions
- Floral Park Parking Construction
- Babylon Car Wash Construction
- Long Island City Yard Construction - Phase II
- Right of Way Drainage Control
- DB Bridge Rehabilitation Construction
- Yaphank, Medford and Greenlawn Parking
- Lindenhurst Parking
- Bellerose Parking
- Long Beach Garage
- Valley Stream and Island Park Substations
- Auburndale Elevator
III. Rolling Stock - Rolling stock investments for the LIRR electric fleet, under the proposed 2001-2004 Capital Program include:
- Overhaul of close to twenty percent of the LIRR's M-3 fleet.
- Construction of an air-conditioning shop that will provide adequate space for the change-out of new roof-mounted modular AC units on the incoming M-7 fleet and the recently acquired bi-level coaches.
