Long Island Rail Road Touchpoint Pilot
The LIRR is launching a Near Field Communication (NFC) Telephone Pilot for fare collection, in partnership with Nokia. We are currently testing the tap-in and tap-out phone application. The first pilot signs, affixed with tags, are being installed at LIRR’s Port Washington, Great Neck, Bayside and Broadway stations.
100 Port Washington Branch customers, selected by an independent marketing firm, will be participating in a June test phase, which consists of collecting and validating “taps” by customers on touch points, with no fare payment being transacted.
