Metro-North’s Christmas/New Year’s Eve
Holiday Service (Dec. 24, 2013 – Jan 1, 2014)
Traffic, tolls and parking fees are enough to turn anyone into a grinch this holiday season
Instead, take Metro-North's Christmas and New Year's Holiday service.
Look for our Special Christmas/New Year’s Holiday Timetable covering Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. The special timetable will include hourly service most of the day on Christmas and New Year’s Days, and off-peak fares will be valid on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.
On Christmas Eve (Tuesday, December 24) we will operate a regular weekday schedule with longer trains at key times, and for those of you making an early getaway, 20 additional trains (6 Hudson, 3 Harlem, 11 New Haven) departing Grand Central between noon and 4:10 PM. See the current November 17 timetable for details.
On Christmas Day (Wednesday, December 25) hourly service will be operated on all lines.
One of the busiest travel weeks of the year is Christmas-New Year’s Week (weekdays from Thursday, Dec. 26 – Monday, Dec. 30). To accommodate those of you taking in the holiday sights, taking advantage of the after- Christmas sales, or just taking back that (insert hideous gift of your choice here), we will operate additional trains on all lines from 10 AM to 2 PM. (If you are traveling with family or friends, we recommend using a ten-trip off-peak ticket. You’ll save 30%-40% off the one-way off-peak fare, and the ticket can be used by more than one person, even when traveling together.)
To help you “strut your stuff” on New Year’s Eve (Tuesday, December 31, 2013), we will operate a reduced weekday AM Peak schedule, an early afternoon getaway schedule and reduced PM Peak service. See the Holiday Timetable for details.
To help you “ring in” 2014 and “ring out” 2013, our New Year’s Eve schedule will include extra late afternoon and early evening inbound service, as well as overnight New Year’s morning service.
As in past years, those of you traveling home “early morning” (after midnight) on New Year’s Eve need to have your train tickets in advance. Tickets will be collected prior to boarding trains at Grand Central. (We ask that you please refrain from bringing open containers of alcohol on our trains. Consider the party officially over as you head to Grand Central.)
On New Year’s Day (Wednesday, January 1, 2014), we will operate hourly service.
Look for our special Holiday Timetable in Grand Central and at outlying ticket offices. Or visit our schedules page for train times.
All of us at Metro-North wish you and your families a happy and safe holiday season.
