Christmas/New Year's Holiday Service Friday, Dec. 23 - Monday, Jan. 2

New Years East

Our fast, convenient holiday service features a specially tailored schedule designed to bring some "joy to your world" while traveling during Christmas and on New Year's Eve. (Did we mention it also helps you avoid the hassles of holiday traffic, tolls, parking and high gasoline prices? It's the gift that keeps giving!)

We "unwrap" our Pre-Christmas Eve Getaway Service on Friday, December 23 with early trains departing Grand Central starting at 12 Noon. (Because of lighter ridership in the PM peak, some trains will be canceled or combined. See a current timetable for details or visit our schedules page.)

On Christmas Eve (Saturday, December 24), we will operate a regular Saturday schedule without Shoppers' Specials service. (See the current Timetable or visit our schedules page.)

On Christmas Day (Sunday, December 25), we will operate a regular Holiday (Sunday) schedule as shown in the current timetable and on our schedules page. (Helpful Holiday hint: If you haven't finished your gift shopping by then, it's too late!)

On Monday, December 26, the day the Christmas Holiday is officially observed (Don't worry, you won't have to give gifts again!) we will operate a Saturday schedule. Because the day after Christmas is one of the biggest shopping (returns!) days of the year, we're also operating our full slate of Shoppers' Specials on this date. See a current timetable or visit our schedules page.

New Years East

Why not see all of Manhattan's holiday sights during Christmas-New Year's Week (December 27 through 30)? We offer plenty of additional service between 10 AM and noon so you can do some post holiday shopping in the city. Because of lighter ridership, some AM Peak trains will be cancelled or combined on these days. (See a current timetable for details or visit our schedules page.)

If you are traveling with the family this week, we recommend purchasing a money-saving off-peak ten trip ticket! In addition to the discount, it is transferable, which means everyone in your party can use it.

We've issued a Special Timetable for New Year's Weekend (Saturday, December 31 through Monday, January 2, 2012).

On New Year's Eve (Saturday, December 31), we will operate an enhanced Saturday schedule with additional inbound trains in the late afternoon/early evening to make sure you get to wherever you need to be safely with plenty of time to "ring in" the New Year. See the Special New Year's Weekend Timetable or visit our schedules page.

For those of you who intend to "party hearty" (and there always seems to be a quite a few of you), we have our traditional post-midnight late night/early morning service to bring you safely home. (And for those of you heading back to the city, we also have extra inbound train service after midnight. See the Special New Year's Weekend Timetable for details or visit our schedules page.)

On both Sunday and Monday, January 1 & 2, we will operate a regular Sunday/Holiday schedule (Again, Monday is the day the holiday is officially observed. See the Special New Year's Weekend Timetable for details or visit our schedules page.)

A few resolutions you should make before the New Year: Buy your train tickets for New Year's Eve in advance: gate collection will be in effect at Grand Central, and you will need your ticket before boarding the train. Also, Open alcoholic beverage containers will not be allowed on trains, platforms and at stations from 12 Noon on New Year's Eve, Dec. 31 through 12 Noon on New Year's Day, Jan. 1. MTA Police will enforce this restriction.

Look for New Year's Eve Weekend Timetables available in Grand Central Terminal and at outlying stations, or visit our schedules page for details.

From all of us at Metro-North, we wish you a happy, healthy and safe holiday season!
