New Schedules Effective Sunday, October 5

Be sure to pick up our new timetables, available in Grand Central Terminal and at outlying ticket offices, to check for changes to your commute. Or visit our schedules page. Service improvements to look for include:

On the New Haven Line:

• Weekdays on the New Haven Line, the 5:48 PM train departing Grand Central, which currently terminates at Bridgeport, will now make additional stops at Stratford, Milford and New Haven, where it will arrive at 7:36 PM. This change improves the frequency of service between Stamford and New Haven during the evening rush hour.

• The 5:30 PM train departing Grand Central, which currently terminates at Old Greenwich, will now operate to Stamford, where it will arrive at 6:29 PM, allowing customers from local stations along the New Haven Line to connect with the 6:32 PM train at Stamford (which is actually the newly extended 5:48 PM train from Grand Central to New Haven).

• We’ve added midday service to the Danbury Branch. A new train departs South Norwalk at 11:11 AM and arrives in Danbury at 11:58 AM, and a new train departs Danbury at 12:42 PM and arrives in South Norwalk at 1:29 PM, letting you connect with a 1:38 PM train to Grand Central. Adding this new service requires adjusting other midday train times by up to 60 minutes.

• Weekends on the Waterbury Branch, we have reconfigured our schedule, allowing us to increase service from four round-trips a day to five. This requires moving other weekend trains up to 87 minutes earlier or later, so check a timetable for details.

• The 11:18 PM train departing New Haven will now leave at 11:38 PM on weekdays and weekends. The 12:25 AM connection at Stamford will also depart later, at 12:41 AM. Finally, with the completion of concrete tie installation between Milford and New Haven, weekend and daytime off-peak train schedules will be adjusted back to their pre-April times.

On the Hudson Line:

• With the completion of concrete tie installation between Cold Spring and New Hamburg, weekend and daytime off-peak train schedules will return to their pre-April times. This change will allow for faster travel times of up to five minutes for most off-peak Upper Hudson Line customers.

On the Harlem Line:

• There are no changes to service.

The New Ulster-Poughkeepsie LINK

The Ulster-Poughkeepsie LINK is a new bus service linking four Ulster County communities with Metro-North Railroad service at Poughkeepsie Station. With free Park & Ride lots in Rosendale, New Paltz and Highland, the seven-day service meets 25 express trains each weekday and 10 express trains each weekend day. The service allows Ulster County residents to avoid the drive over the Mid-Hudson Bridge, avoid the toll and forget the hunt for parking.  This bus service, which also will serve the SUNY New Paltz campus on weekends, is operated by Ulster County Area Transit, UCAT, under contract to NYSDOT. For more details, visit our Connecting Service page on the Ulster-Poughkeesie LINK.

Cars Added To Peak Port Jervis Line Trains

Train cars have been added to six Port Jervis Line trains-- three in the AM peak and three in the PM peak--to provide customers with more seats.

These changes have  been made, in part, because ridership growth on the Port Jervis line has jumped 5% in the first three months of 2008, to over 5,800 weekday customers.  These improvements are also in response to customer comments, surveys and recent focus groups.

Mornings, the 5:37 AM train departing Port Jervis has gone from six to seven cars--the first time ever that the Port Jervis Line has had a seven-car train. The 5:05 AM out of Port Jervis has been lengthened from five to six cars and the 6:07 AM train has lengthened from six to seven cars.

In the afternoon, the 4:47 PM out of Hoboken has been increased from six to seven cars, and the biggest train in the evening, the 5:40 PM out of Hoboken, has gone from six to seven cars. And finally the 6:27 PM out of Hoboken has been increased from five to six cars.

Hudson Line Platform Changes Through 2008

The next phase of the Hudson Line station rehabilitation project began in January 2008, and will last for approximately 18 months. During this phase, we will replace the inbound platforms at Philipse Manor, Scarborough, and Ossining stations.

This work will require that we continue to change the way in which we operate trains from Morris Heights to Ossining during the AM Peak. Therefore, customers will still board their morning trains from the opposite platform. (In other words, northbound trains will be arriving on southbound platforms, and southbound trains will be arriving on the northbound platforms.)

Additionally, weekday off-peak customers at Tarrytown, Philipse Manor, Scarborough, and Ossining stations will generally use the northbound platform for ALL trains (southbound and northbound) during this project phase.

Please look for signage with exact details at your station, and also listen for announcements in the event that operating conditions require a last-minute revision to track assignments.

We thank you for your patience and understanding.

Online Ticket Scams

Beware of online ticket scams! The only official way to purchase Metro-North Railroad tickets online is from WebTicket. Some customers have reported "bogus" websites offering nonexistent ticket discounts.

Do not use these sites. If a railroad ticket offer seems too good to be true -- it probably is. You will never receive a ticket and you will have given someone access to your credit card information.

Again, only purchase tickets online from WebTicket. To avoid confusion, bookmark that page today.
