MTA New York City Transit reopened the Cathedral Pkwy-110 St subway station over the Labor Day weekend after less than five months of structural repairs and functional improvements to the station’s steel and concrete structure, mezzanine, walls, stairs, and platforms.

MTA New York City Transit today announced that regular scheduled A Subway and Rockaway Park S Subway shuttle service will resume on Tuesday, Sept. 4, following the on-time, on-budget completion of two phases of flood protection work in the Rockaways to fortify A Subway and S Subway subway infrastructure against future storms and to improve service on the peninsula.

MTA New York City Transit unveiled its inaugural Customer Commitment today, a new quarterly document that will deliver time-bound, customer-focused improvements throughout the system. The Customer Commitment will be released four times a year, with each issue setting forth clear goals for which customers can hold NYCT accountable. This report builds upon the work set forth in the Subway Action Plan in addition to introducing entirely new improvements based upon areas that customers want to see improved. NYCT President Andy Byford spearheaded a similar endeavor during his time leading the Toronto Transit Commission.
The LIRR has launched a new service -- LIRR Care -- that will serve as a customer assistance program for people with mobility issues who need assistance accessing or navigating the railroad system.
The LIRR plans to lengthen the platforms at Forest Hills and Kew Gardens by 50 percent, to accommodate six cars of a train, from the current four.
