MTA Long Island Rail Road is helping riders get away early for the holiday. LIRR is adding 13 trains to its eastbound afternoon schedule from Penn Station on Christmas Eve, Wednesday, December 24, to accommodate the large number of customers leaving work early to begin their Christmas holiday.

New timetables that reflect the completion of major track work on Metro-North Railroad will go in effect on Saturday, January 18, 2014. With all four tracks in a six-mile stretch from Woodlawn to Melrose in service for the first time since the intensive upgrade began July 1, running times will be reduced. As future infrastructure work is completed, additional improvements will be made.

Customers at the Bowling Green subway station can enjoy some thrilling and unique views from atop some familiar intersections. Seven large-scale photographs are now on display at the downtown area station. The exhibit is the latest installation of MTA Arts for Transit and Urban Design’s large-scale photography exhibitions, which are posted four times a year within New York’s public transportation system.

MTA Metro-North Railroad is making immediate improvements to reinforce safety at critical curves and movable bridges along the railroad's right-of-way. These improvements were directed by Governor Andrew Cuomo in a letter to the MTA and by an emergency order from the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA).

MTA Bridges and Tunnels is ready for winter weather with 98 trucks in its snow and ice-fighting arsenal and more than 9,000 tons of anti-corrosive deicer, made of rock salt products treated with deicing additives which is significantly less corrosive to steel than salt alone. The snow fleet, made up of regular maintenance trucks that are turned into snow plows and conveyors during winter months, includes 44 vehicles equipped with ground temperature sensors that tell the operator and bridge managers if the roadway is in danger of freezing. The operator then spreads additional deicer where it is needed.

Metro-North Railroad will resume more than 98% of its regular Hudson Line service in time for Wednesday morning’s commute following last weekend’s tragic derailment. Governor Andrew M. Cuomo made the announcement Tuesday afternoon. The railroad was able to clear debris, begin rebuilding tracks and restore one of the three tracks in the area that was not significantly damaged in the accident.
