Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) services will operate on special schedules in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday, January 19. Details are below.
On Monday, January 19, 2015, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Metro-North Railroad will operate on a Saturday schedule with 32 additional trains.
MTA Long Island Rail Road will operate on a modified Holiday Schedule with extra trains running on five branches on Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday, Monday, January 19.

MTA Long Island Rail Road is adding 13 trains to its eastbound afternoon schedule from Penn Station on Christmas Eve, Wednesday, December 24, to accommodate the large number of customers leaving work early to begin their Christmas holiday. The additional service from Penn Station will be provided between 12:46 p.m. and 3:48 p.m. on the Ronkonkoma, Babylon, Port Jefferson and Far Rockaway branches.
MTA NYC Transit is unveiling its “Courtesy Counts, Manners Make a Better Ride” placard campaign which urges customers to be aware that just a few courteous actions can make trains and buses run more efficiently while creating an atmosphere that can make a daily commute more pleasant and less stressful.

Construction of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s (MTA) largest expansion of the transit system in decades, the Second Avenue Subway, has reached another critical milestone with the on-time completion of the 86th Street Station cavern. Work began in August of 2011 and was completed earlier this week.

That's because the MTA has produced a new on-air public service announcement campaign for New York City Transit buses and the MTA Bus Company to educate bus customers, pedestrians and bicyclists about safety on and around buses.
The Verrazano-Narrows Bridge Staten Island toll plaza project is complete. Governor Andrew M. Cuomo has announced that MTA Bridges and Tunnels has completed the $50 million project, improving traffic flow from Staten Island approaches onto the bridge. The three-year project was completed on budget and seven months ahead of schedule.
