MTA Arts & Design has installed a new photography exhibit that features exclusive images by Danny Lyon, who photographed subway riders in 1966. The exhibit, located at the Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr [B][D][N][Q][R] station in Brooklyn, will be on view for one year.

Students from two different Brooklyn schools who used their creative talents to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge have completed art projects that are now on display at the facility at the administration building. Second-graders from P.S. 185 in Bay Ridge visited the Verrazano-Narrows administration building days after the Nov. 21 anniversary to see their art exhibit and talk to Facility Engineer David Riggs and Director of Bridges South Bill McCann, who oversees day-to-day operations at the Verrazano-Narrows, Marine Parkway-Gil Hodges Memorial and Cross Bay Veterans Memorial bridges.

MTA Bridges and Tunnels is ready to battle winter weather this year with 98 trucks in its snow and ice-fighting arsenal and 9,180 tons of anti-corrosive deicer on hand. The snow fleet, made up of regular maintenance trucks that are turned into snow plows and conveyors during winter months, includes 44 vehicles equipped with ground temperature sensors that let the operator and bridge managers know if the roadway is in danger of freezing.

The MTA Transportation Reinvention Commission has released it's final report outlining seven strategies. The group of 24 experts, convened by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) to address challenges facing the regional transportation network, recommends the MTA take significant steps to re-engineer its way of doing business and make its system more resilient, while all those who benefit from the MTA’s services must contribute to reliable long-term funding to continue to drive the region’s prosperity.

Motorists may have to take it slow if the area sees significant snowfall, but MTA Bridges and Tunnels is prepared to get you home or wherever your destination may be this Thanksgiving holiday. MTA Bridges and Tunnels has 98 pieces of snow-fighting equipment and 9,180 tons of roadway deicer on hand. All drains on agency property and those that are just off-property and prone to flooding have been checked and cleared of debris.

Metro-North wants riders to get home safely and swiftly for the Thanksgiving holiday despite possible inclement weather. The Railroad is operating 22 extra trains departing from Grand Central Terminal between 1 and 4 p.m. on Wednesday.The trains are noted in current timetables and will be included in the Metro-North Train Time app.

The LIRR will operate nine extra afternoon eastbound trains from Penn Station between 1:46 p.m. and 4:06 p.m. to handle the expected holiday rush. Station waiting rooms will remain open throughout the night on Wednesday, resuming normal waiting room hours on Thursday.

Once again this holiday season, the MTA will offer nostalgia lovers the opportunity to the ride back into the past with rides on vintage buses and subway trains. There’s no better way to get around while doing your holiday shopping! Dating back to the early part of last century, the Nostalgia Train is made up of subway cars in service along the lettered lines between the early1930s to the mid-1970s. Equipped with ceiling fans, padded seats and incandescent light bulbs, the R/1 through R/9 cars served the IND and later some BMT lines. Customers will have the opportunity to hop on board as it operates along the Sixth Avenue [M] Line.

The Verrazano-Narrows Bridge was the last major bridge built by the Triborough Bridge and Tunnel Authority (TBTA) and the last major bridge built in New York City. When it opened on November 21, 1964, its 4,260-foot main suspension span was the world’s longest. Its construction completed the regional highway system and became a catalyst for the rapid development of Staten Island and Northern New Jersey.
