On Monday, January 19, 2015, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Metro-North Railroad will operate on a Saturday schedule with 32 additional trains.
MTA Long Island Rail Road will operate on a modified Holiday Schedule with extra trains running on five branches on Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday, Monday, January 19.

2015 Schedule of Planned Service Changes for the FASTRACK Maintenance Program
With the Christmas and New Year’s holidays coming upon us, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s trains and buses will operate on special schedules to optimize service to fit the special holiday travel patterns. MTA Long Island Rail Road is adding 13 trains to its eastbound afternoon schedule from Penn Station on Christmas Eve, Wednesday, December 24, to accommodate the large number of customers leaving work early to begin their Christmas holiday. The additional service from Penn Station will be provided between 12:46 p.m. and 3:48 p.m. on the Ronkonkoma, Babylon, Port Jefferson and Far Rockaway branches.
MTA NYC Transit is unveiling its “Courtesy Counts, Manners Make a Better Ride” placard campaign which urges customers to be aware that just a few courteous actions can make trains and buses run more efficiently while creating an atmosphere that can make a daily commute more pleasant and less stressful.

Construction of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s (MTA) largest expansion of the transit system in decades, the Second Avenue Subway, has reached another critical milestone with the on-time completion of the 86th Street Station cavern. Work began in August of 2011 and was completed earlier this week.
Planning trips along MTA routes has just gotten easier. That's because the web-based itinerary planner is now a downloadable app for mobile iOS devices. The app is now available for free in the App Store.
