Metro-North track engineers will soon have another way to monitor track inspections. The railroad has announced plans to purchase a new track monitoring system that will be mounted on regular train cars to provide continuous inspection data and complement the in-depth inspections performed twice each year.

A selection of 60 soloists and groups performed in Grand Central Terminal during Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s 27th annual auditions for its Music Under New York program. The auditions are held to add new talent to the program, which is administered by MTA Arts for Transit & Urban Design (AFT) and presents more than 7,500 performances annually in the MTA’s subways and railroads.

A fire that destroyed an important remote switching control house near Cos Cob on Saturday morning may result in 5-10 minute delays for New Haven Line customers, as the railroad is only able to use two of four tracks in the peak direction through a nine-mile stretch. The fire has also eliminated the ability of the railroad to operate trains around problems if any arise in this area.

Forest Hills customers with limited mobility have easier access to the [E], [F], [M] and [R] trains with three new elevators installed for their use. MTA New York City Transit President Carmen Bianco presided over a ribbon-cutting ceremony today to mark the completion of the vital project that now allows customers in Queens to to reach the Forest Hills-71st Av station from the street level to both northbound and southbound platforms. The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) also installed ADA boarding areas with tactile warning strips and signage, and reconstructed platform edges to comply with all ADA requirements.
