Metro-North Railroad is being recognized for its energy-saving efforts. The Railroad received an award on September 16 during a ceremony for the first annual "BuildSmart NY Innovators Summit:" in Albany. The MTA agency was awarded for its comprehensive upgrade and replacement of utility systems with energy-saving components throughout Grand Central Terminal, a century-old national landmark building. Among the replacements or upgrades were chillers, cooling towers, fans, compressors, air handlers, and an extensive steam distribution system.

Elected officials and community leaders from Midtown Manhattan today joined officials from the Metropolitan Transportation Authority to formally open a new public space constructed as part of the East Side Access project. East Side Access will bring Long Island Rail Road trains into a new eight-track station beneath Grand Central Terminal, saving Long Island and Queens commuters to Manhattan’s East Side up to 40 minutes off their daily commutes.

Longer merge points and access to both levels of the bridge are bonuses for motorists using the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge to Brooklyn as the $50 million toll plaza improvement project moves into the next stage of construction. The Staten Island Expressway HOV lane will also temporarily end just before Fingerboard Bridge Road during this stage of construction while contractors reconstruct the area where the old eastbound toll plaza once stood.

FASTRACK work on the G Line along the corridor between Bedford-Nostrand Avs and Hoyt-Schermerhorn Sts was very successful from Sept 8 - 12. Joseph Leader, Senior Vice President for the Department of Subways, said, "Our FASTRACK efforts have been highly successful in repairing and maintaining a subway system that operates around the clock, providing a better work environment for employees and improving train service reliability for our customers."

The thoroughbreds are back from Saratoga and the MTA Long Island Rail Road's 'Belmont Special' is at the starting gate and ready for the fall racing season at beautiful Belmont Park. The LIRR is partnering with The New York Racing Association, Inc. (NYRA) again this year to provide regular train service for racing fans for the start of the Fall Meet Friday, September 5, and continuing through October 26. Through the partnership, NYRA is subsidizing the cost of operating the LIRR Belmont service for racing fans.

It will be smoother riding for motorists heading from Manhattan to Queens on the newly reconstructed Robert F. Kennedy Bridge ramp that was finished a month ahead of schedule. The successful design/build project, which began in 2012, was done with minimal impact to customers. The two-lane ramp, used by most to drive from Manhattan across the bridge’s Queens bridge span, now has a smoother riding surface, safety shoulders, and drainage improvements. It also meets the latest design requirements, including seismic improvements.

Subway and bus riders may notice something a little different, yet familiar on some new MetroCards. That's because wo medical facilities in New York City have purchased advertising space on MetroCards, becoming the first hospitals to promote their services on the fare card. A print run of 50,000 cards for Mount Sinai’s Urgent Care site was the first of the two to be made available last week, with distribution at the 116 St-Columbia University  station and 96 St  station.

[G] Line service was restored on Tuesday, September 2 in time for the post Labor Day morning rush. The five-week suspension between Court Sq and Nassau Av began July 25 and gave MTA New York City Transit maintenance crews the opportunity to make Fix&Fortify resiliency repairs to the tubes, flooded and badly damaged during Superstorm Sandy nearly two years ago.
