The MTA’s Weekender: The Way Around Weekend Work for February 26 - February 29
It's an historic accomplishment for MTA's railroads. The Long Island Rail Road and Metro-North Railroad have achieved the best mechanical performance in the history of their rail cars, leading customers to experience more reliable trains and better on-time performance. And for the LIRR, the achievement marked the railroad's 16th consecutive year or improvement for rail car reliability.
It's Sweet 16 for the LIRR as its rail cars achieved their best performance for the 16th consecutive year. In fact, the feat makes it the railroad's best mechanical reliability since record-keeping began in 1981.
It's an historic accomplishment for Metro-North! The railroad has achieved the best mechanical performance in the history of its rail cars, leading customers to experience more reliable trains and better on-time performance.
For those who miss the [W] train...[W] onderful letter is coming back. In fact, MTA New York City Transit is proposing to hold a public hearing on restoring the [W] Line in Queens and Manhattan this fall, in order to allow the [Q] Line to begin serving the Second Avenue Subway between 63rd and 96th streets when it opens later this year.

Metro-North’s Office of System Safety spearheaded a huge all-day clean-up of our Grand Central Terminal (GCT) East Yard and track on Saturday, Jan. 30. In all, 48 employees from various departments, including Track, Power, Communications & Signals, Mechanical, Transportation and GCT Building Maintenance, volunteered their time to make the Terminal a cleaner and safer place.
Upgrades to the Interlocking at St. George Terminal are Complete
Full power has been restored to Grand Central Terminal. The railroad's ticket machines, website, Train Time app and departure boards are all operating normally. The railroad also has been able to restore full lighting to the entrance at 47th Street and Madison Avenue, which will remain open. The railroad expects to operate normal service throughout the day using all platforms on both the Upper Level and Lower Level of Grand Central. The terminal's retails stores have reopened.
The Lower Level of Grand Central Terminal is temporarily closed until further notice due to the loss of power as a result of a water pipe break. Train Service is not affected at this time and is operating to/from the Upper Level of the terminal
MTA New York City Transit is changing the electronic strip maps for subway cars on the [2] and [5] Lines, making it easier for customers to follow their routes and see where their train is going even when service changes occur.

FASTRACK Comes to the 4 5 6 Lines
The MTA is offering its first-ever “Green Bonds” to the public in a two-day order period starting next Wednesday, February 17. The bonds are certified by the Climate Bonds Initiative, an international not-for-profit organization that supports financing for projects around the world that help reduce the impacts of climate change. The bonds’ proceeds of $500 million will pay for continuing work on infrastructure renewal and upgrade projects on New York City Transit, Long Island Rail Road and Metro-North Railroad that were begun during the MTA’s 2010-2014 Capital Program.

On Presidents’ Day, Monday, February 15, MTA Metro-North Railroad will operate on a Saturday schedule with some extra cars on trains AM inbound and PM outbound hours to accommodate those people who have to work.
On Presidents’ Day, Monday, February 15, the Long Island Rail Road will operate on a Holiday schedule with one extra westbound train departing Ronkonkoma at 7:10 a.m. and arriving at Penn Station at 8:31 a.m.
