MTA New York City Transit brings FASTRACK to the [F] line in lower Manhattan and downtown Brooklyn. [F] trains will be rerouted via the [A] line in both directions between West 4th Street and Jay Street-MetroTech from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. for four consecutive weeknights from Monday, December 2 to early Friday morning, December 6.

It was the end of an era for a pair of satellite toll booths at the northbound Bronx-Whitestone toll plaza, thanks to E-ZPass. With more drivers using E-ZPass instead of cash, the booths were deemed unnecessary. The booths, in place since the early 1980s, were put into service pre-E-ZPass. MTA Bridges and Tunnels introduced E-ZPass at our crossings in a pilot program at the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge in 1995 and at all crossings in 1996.

Drivers heading into Queens on the Throgs Neck Bridge will soon need to stay to the right if they plan on paying at the toll booth. Cash lanes at the Queens-bound Throgs Neck Bridge will be moved to the right side of the plaza beginning Monday, Dec. 9. This new traffic configuration is being put in place in an effort to improve traffic flow at the toll plaza.

All blasting operations for Phase 1 of the Second Avenue Subway Project are complete. The 250,000th E-ZPass On-the-Go tag was sold in a toll plaza cash lane at one of its seven bridges and two tunnels. The sale means a quarter of a million drivers have used the new option to switch to the savings and convenience of E-ZPass instead of fumbling for cash and change at tollbooths.

The MTA and New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) have announced that the MTA intends to surrender an approximately 550,000-square foot site at the intersection of East Gun Hill Road and the New England Thruway in the Bronx to Gun Hill Square, LLC, a joint venture between Grid Properties, Inc., and Gotham Organization, Inc., to build a pedestrian-oriented retail destination with 260,000 square feet of leasable space, and, if public financing is available, up to 100 units of senior housing. The purchase price of $30.5 million will go toward the MTA’s 2010-2014 Capital Program.
