Six peregrine falcon chicks, hatched last month high atop two MTA bridges last month, have joined the MTA fold. Three chicks were born at Marine Parkway-Gil Hodges Memorial Bridge and three at Throgs Neck Bridge.

The first of several ramps being reconstructed and rehabilitated as part of the $50 million toll plaza improvement project at the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge is opening at Narrows Road South in June. Once the new Brooklyn-bound entrance ramp opens, the old ramp and a portion of the Narrows Road South exit ramp that leads to Lily Pond Avenue will be demolished to make way for the new lower level connector ramp, which will lead motorists directly from the Staten Island Expressway onto the bridge’s lower level

With soaring temperatures and sunny skies, there could have been no better day to bring back [A] and [S] Train service to the Rockaways. The Occasion was marked by a ride on a vintage subway train and a ceremony held at the beach 116 Street station, attended by Federal Transit Administrator Peter Rogoff, Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) representatives and local elected officials who all joined to reopen the line with a ceremonial ride from Howard Beach.
Service on the #1 line has resumed in both directions following a derailment involving a downtown #1 train between 125th St and 116th St Wednesday evening.

The Cannonball, the Long Island Rail Road's fastest train to the East End, is now running non-stop from Manhattan for the first time since the train was introduced back in the 1890s. It arrives in Westhampton 94 minutes after departing from Penn Station, with follow-up stops at Southampton, East Hampton, Bridgehampton and Montauk. It's a one-seat, $27 ride, with reserved seating available for an extra charge. The Cannonball has traditionally departed from the Hunterspoint Avenue Station in Long Island City, Queens, but now it's running from Penn Station. It made its inaugural run from Penn on May 24, 2013.

On May 25, 1950, a parade of dignitaries, led by Mayor William O’Dwyer and Robert Moses, head of the newly created Triborough Bridge and Tunnel Authority, traveled by motorcade through the brand new Brooklyn-Battery Tunnel and were welcomed on the Manhattan side by a throng of cheering well-wishers.
