The New York Islanders have made it to the postseason once again, and MTA Long Island Rail Road is providing extra service to Barclays Center in Brooklyn to ensure you don’t miss any of the action. As the Islanders host the Panthers on Sunday, April 17, Wednesday, April 20, and Sunday, April 24 (if necessary) – LIRR will continue to provide extra trains heading to hockey games at Barclays Center.

A new and improved Wantagh Station is getting underway. MTA Long Island Rail Road announced the primary contractor for the planned $23.9 million rehabilitation project. Fortunato Sons Contracting, Inc., will lead the venture expected to create 100 construction jobs. The infrastructure investment at Wantagh, financed by the MTA Capital Program, will include a new concrete platform, segmented canopy, platform waiting room, escalator, elevator, lighting, communications system and signage as well as a distinctive public art project. It’s all part of the first significant upgrade of the facility since it was built nearly 50 years ago. The addition of an elevator will make the station ADA accessible for the first time.

It's a big step forward for the LIRR Main Line Expansion Project. Governor Andrew M. Cuomo has announced the hiring of a consulting firm to assist in the environmental review and formal community engagement process for the work which calls for adding a third track along a critical 9.8-mile section of LIRR’s Main Line between Floral Park and Hicksville Stations.

Tim Hortons, “Canada’s favourite coffee chain,” officially opened its doors at the White Plains Station. The franchise is operated by Gateway Foods, which has been operating a newsstand at the station since June 2014 that it intends to begin renovating.

On Good Friday, March 25, the New York City Subway and Staten Island Railway will operate on regular weekday schedules, and the Long Island Rail Road will offer 10 extra trains departing Penn Station between 1:49 p.m. and 3:48 p.m. A normal Sunday schedule will be in effect on Easter Sunday, March 27. However, there will be some adjustments to MTA services as noted below.
