It's no secret that Metro-North’s East of Hudson schedules will be changing on April 3, 2016 to improve on-time performance during peak travel periods, support critical track and infrastructure work and address customer requests, but shhh...Metro-North has more ways to provide you with a quieter ride. Certain morning and evening rush hour trains on the New Haven, Harlem and Hudson Lines will be adjusted by between 1 and 4 minutes. These minor adjustments will decrease train dwell time at stations, relieve congestion, increase train speed, help prevent the cascading impact of minor delays and improve on-time performance.

A familiar MTA campaign has a new twist. The “If you see something, say something” public safety campaign is incorporating real stories from real New Yorkers who have reported suspicious packages or activities. An advertising campaign that launches today adds a new slogan for the first time, “New Yorkers Keep New York Safe,” and features MTA customers who describe the scenarios they experienced that prompted them to report suspicious packages or activities.

The calendar calls for the First Day of Spring on Sunday, but we may get a wintry blast possibly dumping several inches of snow in parts of the metropolitan region. The Metropolitan Transportation Authority is hard at work to ensure safe, reliable service this weekend. MTA New York City Transit, Metro-North Railroad, Long Island Rail Road, and MTA Bridges and Tunnels are once again preparing. Personnel will be ready to drop salt and clear platforms and stairs of snow but customers are urged to use extreme caution while navigating the system, especially on outdoor platforms and stairs.

Fulton Center has something else to celebrate. The transit hub is the first subway station to receive a LEED® rating. The MTA has been awarded LEED® Silver certification for the Fulton Center on Broadway between Fulton and Dey Streets in Manhattan’s Financial District. LEED, which stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, is the most widely used third-party verification for green buildings.

The Long Island Rail Road and Metro-North Railroad will operate extra trains to help those traveling to New York City for the 255th St. Patrick’s Day Parade on Thursday, March 17. Customers are advised not to bring alcoholic beverages, open or closed, on trains, platforms and stations through 5 a.m. on Friday, March 18. Alcoholic beverages will be confiscated by the MTA Police. Bar carts at Grand Central and Penn Station will not operate this day.

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced that the MTA would add 2,042 state-of-the-art new buses to its transportation fleet over the next five years. The Governor, joined by MTA Chairman and CEO Thomas Prendergast and MTA New York City Transit President Ronnie Hakim, introduced the next generation vehicles to the public, as well as previewed enhanced amenities like USB charging ports and Wi-Fi. The new buses, which will replace nearly 40 percent of the MTA’s current fleet and represent a $1.3 billion investment of Capital Program resources, will begin hitting streets next month.

Metro-North West of Hudson customers will have different travel options if NJ TRANSIT should have a work stoppage starting on or after Sunday, March 13. Because NJ TRANSIT operates the trains that serve Metro-North Railroad’s Port Jervis Line and Pascack Valley Line in Orange and Rockland Counties, N.Y., those lines would not operate during a work stoppage. Metro-North has arranged service options for its customers that could begin 24 hours after a strike is announced. Details are below.

And for the LIRR, the achievement marked the railroad's 16th consecutive year or improvement for rail car reliability.
