Customers can get the locations of Brooklyn and Queens’ buses in real time via smart phone, web and text message. The MTA has fulfilled its promise of offering MTA Bus Time™ on every bus route in New York City during the 1st Quarter of 2014.

Drivers entering the Brooklyn-bound Verrazano-Narrows Bridge from Father Capodanno Boulevard will be using a temporary ramp for the next several months while the original ramp is reconstructed under the $50 million project to improve traffic flow on the bridge’s ramps and approach roadways. The temporary ramp opened on Thursday evening, Feb. 20. The only real change drivers will notice is a slight shift to the right to enter the temporary ramp, which will have the same two-lane configuration as the original ramp.

After a winter hiatus for holiday traffic and multiple winter snow storms, work has resumed on the Bronx-Whitestone Bridge Queens approach $109 million reconstruction and rehabilitation project. A new traffic pattern went into effect on Thurs., Feb. 20 as rehabilitation work continues on the far left lane on the southbound side of the approach roadway. Motorists will be shifted around the work zone and a movable barrier will once again be in place to maximize lane capacity during peak drive times.

MTA Metro-North Railroad today announced that effective immediately, customers who ride the Danbury Branch will be able to present their tickets for travel on Harlem Line trains while the railroad works to correct problems with the Danbury Branch’s newly installed computerized train detection system that controls the grade crossings.

New York City Transit's aggressive maintenance program— returned to the [A] [C] lines in Brooklyn between East New York and Downtown Brooklyn for two nights this week. Hundreds of New York City Transit (NYCT) employees performed a range of cleaning and maintenance tasks of station and tunnel infrastructure, signal equipment, and track and third rail components.

Metro-North Railroad, which carried about half of its normal rush hour ridership this morning, will operate 75% of its normal evening rush hour schedule today, across all lines, Hudson, Harlem and New Haven.

A quick-thinking NYC Transit cleaner assigned to Brooklyn’s Forest Avenue Station responded to a customer’s call for help and caught one half of a cell-phone theft team, holding him for NYPD Officers, who placed him under arrest. The theft was in stark contrast to crime figures, which are dropping even as subway ridership reaches levels not recorded in 40 years.

Metro-North’s annual east of Hudson ridership last year was the highest in the railroad’s history, at 81.8 million, surpassing the previous east of Hudson record of 81.5 million rides that was set in 2008. A surge in train travel over the last three months of 2013 helped boost MTA Long Island Rail Road’s ridership for the second year in a row with the LIRR recording a 2% jump in passenger rides over 2012 totals. The Long Island Rail Road and Metro-North Railroad each carried 83.4 million passengers in 2013.
