Improvements along the 6 line at the Zerega and Burhre Avenue stations are on the way. The ongoing $109 million dollar renewal project at five stations along the Pelham Line does mean, however, that MTA New York City Transit will close the Zerega Av and Buhre Av stations in both directions on Saturday, July 5 at 12:01 a.m., and will remain closed until February, 2015.

The Long Island Rail Road ants to help you get a jump start on your holiday weekend. LIRR will provide additional early-afternoon service from Penn Station, Thursday, July 3, adding eight eastbound trains to the schedule for customers planning an early getaway for the start of the Independence Day holiday.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) will offer extra railroad service on Thursday, July 3, to allow customers to get a head start a long Fourth of July weekend. On Friday, July 4, subways, buses, the LIRR and the Staten Island Railway will operate on a Saturday schedule, and Metro-North Railroad will operate on a Sunday/holiday schedule with extra trains added.

Metro-North wants you to get a jump on the Independence Day holiday weekend. The Railroad is providing 17 extra getaway trains leaving Grand Central Terminal beginning Thursday, July 3 between noon and 4 p.m. On Friday, July 4th, Metro-North trains will operate on a Sunday/holiday schedule with extra trains in both directions to get folks to and from the Macy’s Fireworks.

FASTRACK — MTA New York City Transit's aggressive maintenance program — returned to the 2 3 4 line lines in Brooklyn between Crown Heights and Downtown Brooklyn June 23-27, for the second time in 2014. During the successful week of maintenance work, trains did not stop at Bergen St, Grand Army Plaza, and Eastern Pkwy in either direction. NYC Transit workers took full advantage of the seven hours of train-free access each night between 10 PM and 5 AM to perform a range of cleaning and maintenance tasks of station and tunnel infrastructure, signal equipment, and track and third rail components.

Metro-North Railroad has made a "grand entrance" by dedicating Grand Central Terminal's main entry vestibule to Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. On Monday, the Railroad dedicated the Terminal’s fully restored, main entry vestibule at 89 East 42nd Street and Park Avenue (Pershing Square), in honor of the former First Lady and iconic New Yorker who led the historic campaign to save Grand Central from destruction in the 1970s.

A young peregrine falcon, one of the four hatched in May atop the Verrazano-Narrow Bridge, was scooped up and brought to safety after the fledgling recently made an unscheduled pit stop on the bridge’s upper level center median. MTA Bridges and Tunnels Maintainers Ed Sheehan and Asif Subhan were in a sweeper truck doing routine cleaning near the Brooklyn tower in the early morning hours of June 17 when they spotted something on the small strip of curbing adjacent to the center median, which divides east and west bound traffic. William McCann, MTA Bridges and Tunnels Director of Bridges South, said employees at the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge are accustomed to dealing with all types of creatures that get onto MTA property from time to time but this was a bird of a different feather.
