New York City will hold a ticker-tape parade in the Canyon of Heroes on Friday, July 10, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. for the United States Women’s National Soccer Team to celebrate their World Cup victory last Sunday, and the MTA's network of railroads, subways and buses will be the best way to get there. The parade will start in front of the Alexander Hamilton US Custom House, near Broadway and Battery Pl. traveling north on Broadway to Worth Street, then to Lafayette Street, and concluding with ceremonies at City Hall at about 1 p.m.

If you’re heading to tomorrow’s historic ticker tape parade for the world champion U.S. women’s soccer team, skip the traffic and parking headaches. Ride with your fellow soccer fans on the Long Island Rail Road, which is running six extra trains to Penn Station tomorrow timed to get you to the start of the parade, and 10 extra trains to get you home.

Two major projects are underway to improve the flagship Robert F. Kennedy Bridge complex. One involves rebuilding the original 1930s-era Bronx toll plaza and the other to rebuild the East 125th St entrance and exit ramps. This work is part of $1 billion in investments committed through 2026 to ensure the 79-year-old bridge continues to serve its 170,000 daily customers and unite the New York region.

Two MTA Bridges and Tunnels crossings are celebrating more than seven decades of service in July. The Marine Parkway-Gil Hodges Memorial Bridge celebrates the 78th anniversary of its opening on July 3 and the Robert F. Kennedy Bridge’s 79th anniversary is July 11.

The Long Island Rail Road and Metro-North will offer extra railroad service on Thursday, July 2, to allow customers to get a head start a long Fourth of July weekend. On Friday, July 3, subways, buses, Metro-North and the Staten Island Railway will operate on a Saturday schedule, and the LIRR will operate on a regular Friday schedule. More details are below.

Getting out of a train and into a rental car will soon help more Metro-North customers complete their trips in some areas. The Railroad is extending its popular partnership with Enterprise Rent-a-Car and adding services provided by Zipcar at outlying stations. For the last seven years, savvy travelers have used Metro-North then picked up a rental car at many stations and the program has grown continuously. Now Zipcar, an hourly car sharing service, also will be available at select station parking lots.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) today celebrated yet another milestone of New York City’s iconic subway commemorating the 100th anniversary of the opening of the first subway of the now defunct Brooklyn-Manhattan Transit Corporation (BMT). The MTA and Operation Lifesaver, Inc., have formed a partnership to promote safety at Metro-North and LIRR railroad crossings and announced that their first initiative was an advertising campaign at the movies, on television, in newspapers, online and on outdoor signs to begin appearing tomorrow. The MTA also launched a new safety-focused section of its website, web.mta.info/safety, and social media hashtag #MTASafety.

An aboriginal didgeridoo, Chinese monochord and Celtic folk are among the variety of sounds you'll soon be hearing as you make your way around the MTA system. The acts were among 26 groups and performers accepted into the Music Under New York program (MTA MUSIC). The musicians were chosen from approximately 70 acts that performed before a panel of judges on May 19, 2015, at the program’s 28th annual auditions in Grand Central Terminal.
