The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) today gave preliminary approval to two contracts totaling $205.8 million to Siemens Industry Inc. and Thales Transport & Security for the installation of a Communications-Based Train Control (CBTC) signaling system on the Queens Boulevard Line, one of New York City Transit’s busiest subway lines. The signaling system, which is currently in operation on the Canarsie [L] Line and being installed on the Flushing  Line, enables the MTA to address overcrowding and record subway ridership by operating subway trains more closely together, adding passenger capacity to the century-old subway system.

LIRR is continuing to experience delays & cancellations due to a minor train collision east of Jamaica. Train service is operating out of Penn with delays of 10-15 minutes. There are residual delays systemwide, both east & westbound, up to 60 minutes. NYCT is no longer cross-honoring LIRR fares on the E, 2 or 3 subway trains.

Those who travel the Verrazano will have a new ramp connecting the Belt Parkway to the Staten Island-bound lower level of the bridge tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, July 22. The ramp is part of the $84.3 million project to construct a new lane for buses and high-occupancy vehicles (HOV) that will eventually connect to the Bus/HOV lane on the Gowanus Expressway. The new ramp will require motorists to exit from the right lane of the approach ramp rather than the left lane.

New York City Department of Transportation (NYC DOT), together with MTA NYC Transit, unveiled the route along 86th Street in Manhattan today. This corridor currently serves 24,000 commuters daily and is the busiest route citywide per mile. This marks the 8th SBS in the city and provides direct connections to twelve different bus routes, including the M15 SBS, as well as six different subway lines including the 1, 4, 5, 6, B and C trains.

New York City will hold a ticker-tape parade in the Canyon of Heroes on Friday, July 10, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. for the United States Women’s National Soccer Team to celebrate their World Cup victory last Sunday, and the MTA's network of railroads, subways and buses will be the best way to get there. The parade will start in front of the Alexander Hamilton US Custom House, near Broadway and Battery Pl. traveling north on Broadway to Worth Street, then to Lafayette Street, and concluding with ceremonies at City Hall at about 1 p.m.

If you’re heading to tomorrow’s historic ticker tape parade for the world champion U.S. women’s soccer team, skip the traffic and parking headaches. Ride with your fellow soccer fans on the Long Island Rail Road, which is running six extra trains to Penn Station tomorrow timed to get you to the start of the parade, and 10 extra trains to get you home.
