The MTA’s Weekender: The Way Around Weekend Work for April 8-9
Because Amtrak crews did not finish track repair work by 4 a.m. as promised and because they did not grant access to tracks overnight so that Long Island Rail Road could pre-position trains, LIRR is forced to once again operate a reduced morning rush-hour schedule this morning, which impacts 14 trains. The LIRR normally operates 144 morning rush hours train, 98 of which go to Penn Station. For details see Service Status at left.
As Amtrak crews continue to repair track damage at Penn Station, the Long Island Rail Road must operate a reduced PM rush hour schedule, which includes 16 trains canceled from Penn Station between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m., and eight others diverted to originate elsewhere.

New York City Transit will cross-honor LIRR tickets at Jamaica, Atlantic Terminal and Hunterspoint Avenue for continuing service to Manhattan.
As Amtrak crews continue to work at Penn Station to repair track damage caused by a derailment Monday morning, the Long Island Rail Road plans to operate the PM rush hour schedule used on Monday, which included 18 trains canceled from Penn Station between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m., and eight others will originate elsewhere. Westbound service to Penn Station from Jamaica and Woodside will be curtailed. New York City Transit will cross-honor LIRR tickets at 34th Street-Penn Station, Jamaica and Woodside.
Because of an NJ TRANSIT derailment at Penn Station this morning and continuing track repairs, the LIRR needs to cancel 18 trains from Penn Station between 4 and 8 p.m., and have 8 others originate at Atlantic Terminal, or Jamaica. The cancellations are necessary to allow NJ TRANSIT and Amtrak, which runs Penn Station, the use of Tracks 13-16, which are normally shared with LIRR.

The LIRR has partnered with Shop Gotham to give customers inside access to designer showrooms, shopping tours, exclusive store discounts and exciting perks not available to the independent fashion shopper.
A poetic homage to the workers who dig subway tunnels, written for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority by the former U.S. Poet Laureate and former New York State Poet Laureate Billy Collins, is the newest addition to MTA Arts & Design’s Poetry in Motion program as the MTA continues to celebrate the opening of the new Second Avenue Subway this year.
Metro-North will make a handful of minor adjustments to New Haven Line, Hudson Line and Harlem Line schedules that will take effect on Sunday, April 2, to address customer requests for additional service. The changes are designed to improve on-time performance and support track outages that are critical to on-going service reliability.
More than 700 local women-, minority- and service-disabled veteran-owned businesses have registered to participate in a special information and networking session on how they can work on the proposed LIRR Expansion Project.

You don’t have to get “on the road again” to travel to the New York International Auto Show - just ride the rails. Metro-North is offering special discount packages to the New York International Auto Show at the Jacob Javits Center, April 14 to 23, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. (10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday April 16 and 23). Metro-North customers receive discount show admission and reduced rail fare.

Long Island Rail Road customers can take advantage of up to 30% savings for the package, which includes LIRR off-peak round-trip rail fare and admission to the Auto Show. Metro-North customers receive discount show admission and reduced rail fare.
Because of an Amtrak derailment at Penn Station this morning, the Long Island Rail Road anticipates cancellations and delays for this evening’s rush hour. To avoid delays, customers are advised to leave New York City before 4 p.m. today, or delay departure from the city until after 8 p.m.
The Village of Montauk is once again holding its popular annual St. Patrick's Day Parade, and the LIRR will be there to provide extra train service before and after the parade on Sunday, March 26.
