The Mt. Kisco, Purdy’s, Hastings-on-Hudson, Peekskill and Tarrytown stations are being reinvigorated, becoming more vibrant, welcoming places for commuters and residents, thanks to a renewal initiative by MTA Metro-North Railroad. Metro-North has granted leases to new tenants who will bring dining and shopping options, commuter and community services, as well as improvements to these station house buildings.
MTA New York City Transit has announced plans to purchase an automated mobile camera system on buses to capture real-time bus lane violations as the agency and New York City’s Department of Transportation step up combined enforcement efforts to increase bus speeds and keep traffic moving on congested city streets.

The complete reconstruction of the Merillon Avenue LIRR Station will start the week of March 18th. The station services the Main Line and Port Jefferson Branch and serves nearly 1,882 daily customers. Station improvements will include: platform removal and replacement to accommodate 12-car trains; platform canopies; new platform furnishings and accoutrements including benches, shelters, and signage; CCTV security cameras to improve safety; ADA-compliant mobility improvements including elevators and ramps; free public Wi-Fi; USB charging stations and digital information displays. New bike racks and art will also be installed. Merillon Avenue Station is in Garden City and was originally built in 1912. The new station will be completed in 2020.
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) announced new statistics showing the continued dramatic subway performance improvements that have been achieved since the launch of the Subway Action Plan and Save Safe Seconds, including the fewest number of weekday delays that the system has seen in almost five years.
In addition to extending “E-Hail on Demand” pilot, MTA announces expanded taxi usage initiative for paratransit system, allowing the majority of trips system-wide to be completed in taxis or for-hire vehicles (FHV) in future years, up from 33% in 2017 – goal is to further grow share of trips in taxis
MTA New York City Transit reopened two station entrances at the Metropolitan Av-Lorimer St station complex on Thursday, February 28, 2019. They are part of a capacity improvement project at the station complex that included reopening six platform stairs at the south end of the station, reopening two station entrances, building a new platform staircase at the north end of the station, adding a new turnstile area with new digital screens, customer Help Point intercoms and MetroCard Vending Machines, and reopening a large portion of the station mezzanine to make connections between the G and L trains much more direct.
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) is reminding customers that the Astoria Blvd N SubwayW Subway station will close at 10 p.m. on Sunday, March 17, for nine months as New York City Transit begins a multi-phase project to add four new elevators and other accessibility features, as well as demolish and rebuild the station mezzanine with more vertical clearance to prevent strikes by trucks and other over-height vehicles traveling below the station structure.

MTA Metro-North Railroad President Catherine Rinaldi has announced that effective Sunday, April 14, Metro-North is opening New Haven Line trains for travel between Fordham and Manhatta, effectively doubling service.

The Long Island Rail Road has launched a beta test of an online tool that allows customers to see the real-time position of trains on a map. It also shows information about train lengths and locations of any trouble spots affecting train service. The map is refreshed with new data every three to five seconds and benefits from the enhanced accuracy of GPS data.
The MTA has completed a new traction power substation as part of the East Side Access project to bring LIRR service to Grand Central Terminal (GCT).
MTA Long Island Rail Road crews continued important infrastructure rehabilitation at Nostrand Avenue Station in Brooklyn over the weekend of January 26-27, with further work to be completed over the weekend of February 2-3, while the NYC Department of Transportation works to rebuild the Atlantic Avenue Bridge at East New York Station.
