With a wintry blast that may dump as much as 7 inches of snow in parts of the metropolitan region, the MTA is hard at work to ensure safe, reliable service this weekend. MTA New York City Transit, Metro-North Railroad, Long Island Rail Road, and MTA Bridges and Tunnels are once again preparing. Personnel will be ready to drop salt and clear platforms and stairs of snow but customers are urged to use extreme caution while navigating the system.
In the region served by Metro-North, where the storm is predicted to be more severe than elsewhere in the MTA region, a primary concern is the safety of station platforms. All stations will be pretreated with salt. Metro-North will continue to clear snow and ice throughout the weekend.
MTA Bridges and Tunnels is ready to battle winter weather with 97 conveyors, pay loaders, front loaders and pick-up trucks with plows to battle the snow, along with nearly 9,000 tons of anti-corrosive deicer.

Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) services will operate on special schedules in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday, January 19. Details are below.
On Monday, January 19, 2015, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Metro-North Railroad will operate on a Saturday schedule with 32 additional trains.
MTA Long Island Rail Road will operate on a modified Holiday Schedule with extra trains running on five branches on Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday, Monday, January 19.

MTA Long Island Rail Road is adding 13 trains to its eastbound afternoon schedule from Penn Station on Christmas Eve, Wednesday, December 24, to accommodate the large number of customers leaving work early to begin their Christmas holiday. The additional service from Penn Station will be provided between 12:46 p.m. and 3:48 p.m. on the Ronkonkoma, Babylon, Port Jefferson and Far Rockaway branches.
