Governor Andrew M. Cuomo has announced a new partnership between MTA Metro-North Railroad and Zipcar, a leading provider of vehicle sharing services, to launch a Hudson Valley Car Share initiative. Zipcars are available at nine Metro-North stations in the Hudson Valley so passengers can conveniently take a Zipcar from the station and easily travel to tourist destinations and other locations throughout the region.

MTA Long Island Rail Road will continue to operate reduced service for the AM peak rush-hour on Friday, running 135 morning rush hour trains during - nine less than normal - as it continues to recover from the storm and so inspections, delayed by snowfall, can continue following Wednesday's non-passenger train derailment of one train car.

Because of the ongoing winter storm, the LIRR is adding four additional trains departing Penn Station between 1:49 p.m. and 3:40 p.m., and will run 111 trains out of New York City between 3:27 p.m. and 6:33 p.m.

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo announced has that Veronique Hakim will serve as the interim Executive Director of the MTA while a seven-person committee conducts a nationwide search for a permanent Chair and Chief Executive Officer. Hakim is a lifelong transportation professional who has spent more than 24 years at the MTA, including serving as President of New York City Transit since December 2015. MTA Vice Chairman Fernando Ferrer will serve as Acting Chairman during the search for a permanent replacement.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) Board has voted to approve the lowest fare increase since 2009, when the MTA committed to a biennial schedule for regular increases. The plan increased fares over the next two years by 4 percent – or less than 2 percent annually and less than the rate of inflation. The MTA was able to hold the necessary increases below inflation as a result of the agency’s continued discipline in keeping costs down. The new fares, which take effect March 19, will allow the MTA to continue to provide safe and reliable service.

The MTA is expanding sleep apnea screening and treatment that began in 2015 with Metro-North Railroad train engineers to Metro-North's conductors, Long Island Rail Road train engineers and conductors, New York City Transit subway train operators and conductors, and bus operators for New York City Transit and the MTA Bus Company, becoming the first public transportation agency to systematically screen employees for obstructive sleep apnea and offer priority, specialized treatment to employees. The program will expand to nearly 20,000 employees.

Metro-North Railroad is seeing record ridership numbers with approximately 86.5 million customers in 2016, the highest ridership in the railroad's history, surpassing the previous record of 86.3 million, set last year. Metro-North’s total ridership has more than doubled since the railroad was founded in 1983.
