Arts for Transit and Urban Design

MTA Arts for Transit commissions artists through a competitive selection process to create original, site-specific permanent artwork for rehabilitated stations.

To notify and solicit artists' interest for specific commissions. MTA Arts for Transit issues Calls For Artists by posting them on its website, as well as notifying non-profit artists' organizations in the community and/or State and local arts councils. Arts for Transit suggests that professional artists who are interested in being considered for specific commission opportunities check the Calls For Artists page frequently.

The selection panel is comprised of five voting panelists: two representatives from neighboring museums and cultural institutions, one artist, an Arts for Transit representative, and the project architect. Community representatives are also invited to participate in an advisory capacity. The panel meets twice, first to review submissions and select finalists, and again to review final proposals and select the artist to be commissioned.
