MTA Bridges and Tunnels Celebrates 50 Years of Service At Verrazano-Narrows Bridge

MTA Chairman and CEO Thomas F. Prendergast along with MTA Bridges and Tunnels officials celebrated the anniversary of the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge today, 50 years to the day after it first opened, at a ceremony complete with a 50-gun salute and a fireboat water display with the bridge itself serving as a spectacular backdrop.

Queens Firm to be Awarded $282.5 Million Contract for Sandy Repairs at Hugh L. Carey Tunnel

MTA Bridges and Tunnels announced today that it plans to award a four-year, $282.5 million contract to Tully Construction Company for repairs and restoration projects related to damages at the Hugh L. Carey Tunnel caused by Superstorm Sandy.

One Tube At Queens Midtown Tunnel This Weekend

The Queens-bound (south) tube at the Queens Midtown Tunnel will be closed to traffic from 2 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 15  through 5 a.m. Monday, November 17 for necessary construction work. Motorists should expect delays and are advised to use an alternate route.

RFK Bridge Harlem River Lift Span Intermittent Full Closures This Friday, Oct. 31

There will be multiple, intermittent closures at the Robert F. Kennedy Bridge’s Harlem River Lift Span Fri., Oct. 31 between 12:01 a.m. and 5 a.m. for maintenance work.

Motorists should expect delays and use an alternate route if possible. Each closure is expected to last up to approximately 20 minutes.

Several Throgs Neck Bridge Lanes Closed This Weekend

The Throgs Neck Bridge will have two southbound lanes to Queens closed during overnight hours and one lane closed all weekend, Oct. 24-27 for binder and asphalt overlay replacement work.

Motorists should expect delays and use the Bronx-Whitestone Bridge or Robert F. Kennedy Bridge as an alternate.

One lane to Queens will remain closed all weekend from 10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 24 through 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 27. During overnight hours an additional Queens-bound lane will be closed from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m.

Verrazano-Narrows Bridge Closed for TCS NYC Marathon Sun., Nov. 2

The Verrazano-Narrows Bridge will be closed to all vehicular traffic on Sunday, Nov. 2 between 7 a.m. and approximately 3 p.m. for the TCS New York City Marathon. Motorists traveling to Brooklyn or Staten Island via the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge must use alternate routes.

In addition, on Saturday, Nov. 1 the upper level of the bridge will be closed to traffic in both directions beginning at 11 p.m. to allow for roadway preparation. Vehicles containing hazardous materials will not be permitted to cross the bridge in either direction once that closure takes place. .

Traffic Diverted at Three MTA Crossings Sunday for Bike MS 2014

The Bike MS 2014 event on Sunday, Oct. 5 will impact motorists who normally use the MTA’s Robert F. Kennedy Bridge, Henry Hudson Bridge and Hugh L. Carey Tunnel. Motorists should be aware of the closures and use alternate routes if possible.

Henry Hudson Bridge

7 a.m. to Noon: There will be no access to the southbound Henry Hudson Bridge heading into Manhattan.

Hugh L. Carey Tunnel Closed Sun., Sept. 28 for the Annual Stephen Siller Tunnels to Towers Run

The Hugh L. Carey (formerly Brooklyn-Battery) Tunnel will be closed Sunday, Sept., 28 between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. for the annual Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Run, commemorating the FDNY firefighter’s run through the tunnel to the World Trade Center on 9/11.

Motorists are advised to use an alternate route.

One tube at the tunnel will be closed from 10 p.m. Sat., Sept. 27 through 3 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 28. There will be one lane open in each direction in the remaining tube until 8 a.m., Sunday, Sept. 28 when both tubes will close for the event.
