Two Capital Improvement Projects At Flagship Robert F. Kennedy Bridge Underway

MTA Bridges and Tunnels has embarked on two major projects to improve the flagship Robert F. Kennedy Bridge complex by rebuilding the original 1930s-era Bronx toll plaza and the East 125th St entrance and exit ramps. This work is part of $1 billion in investments committed through 2026 to ensure the 79-year-old bridge continues to serve its 170,000 daily customers and unite the New York region.

There will be a full closure of the Robert F. Kennedy Bridge’s Harlem River Lift Span on Fri., June 26 between 12:01 a.m. and 5 a.m. for a biennial inspection.

Queens Midtown Tunnel Queens-bound Tube Closed This Weekend

One lane will be open in each direction in remaining tube

The Queens-bound (south) tube at the Queens Midtown Tunnel will be closed to traffic from 10:30 p.m. Friday, June 19 through 5:30 a.m. Monday, June 22 for removal of ceiling panels damaged during Superstorm Sandy.

Motorists are advised to use an alternate route if possible.

Queens Midtown Tunnel Queens-bound Tube Closed This Weekend

The Queens-bound (south) tube at the Queens Midtown Tunnel will be closed to traffic from 10:30 p.m. Friday, June 12 through 5:30 a.m. Monday, June 15 for removal of ceiling panels damaged during Superstorm Sandy.

Motorists should allow extra travel time and use an alternate route if possible.

The work requires a total of six, non-consecutive weekend-long tube closures of the Queens-bound tube. This is the third weekend closure.

Hugh L Carey Tunnel Tube Closed This Weekend

One tube at the Hugh L Carey Tunnel will be closed to traffic beginning 9:30 p.m. Friday, June 12 through 5:30 a.m. Monday, June 15 as part of the four-year, $282.5 million contract for Sandy restoration, repair and resiliency work.

Two-way traffic will be in effect in the remaining tube. Motorists should allow extra travel time and use an alternate route if possible.

Marine Parkway-Gil Hodges Memorial Bridge Will Be Closed Overnight June 18-19

The Marine Parkway-Gil Hodges Memorial Bridge will be fully closed to traffic from 11 p.m. Thurs., June 18 until 5 a.m. Fri., June 19. All traffic will be detoured to the Cross Bay Veterans Memorial Bridge during these hours.

Electronic signs will be placed along the Belt Parkway and Flatbush Avenue in Brooklyn and along Rockaway Point Boulevard and Beach Channel Drive in the Rockaways, notifying motorists to use the Cross Bay Veterans Bridge.
