One Tube Closed This Weekend At Both Hugh L. Carey And Queens Midtown Tunnels

One tube at both the Queens Midtown Tunnel and Hugh L. Carey Tunnel will be closed this weekend for the continuation of post-Sandy repairs and other construction work. Motorists are cautioned to expect delays and allow extra time when traveling into or out of Manhattan.

One Tube At Queens Midtown Tunnel This Weekend

The Queens bound (south) tube at the Queens Midtown Tunnel will be closed to traffic from 2 a.m. Saturday through 5 a.m. Monday April 13 through April 15 for repairs related to Superstorm Sandy.

 

Two-way traffic will be in effect in the remaining tube for cars and NYCT buses. Commercial traffic must use an alternate route while two-way traffic is in effect.

 

Motorists should expect delays and are advised to use an alternate route.

Work Resumes On Throgs Neck Bridge Paint Project

Work has resumed on the $47 million Throgs Neck Bridge project designed to clean and repair the steel at the Bronx approach and remove the last original lead paint on the 52-year-old span.

 

The project, which includes cleaning, repairing and repainting 2.5 million square feet of steel, began last June and is expected to be completed in 2014.  A total of about 45,000 gallons of special bridge paint will be used to protect the span’s steel against corrosive salty, seawater.

Center Lane Closed Around-the-Clock At RFK Bridge Bronx Toll Plaza Towards Queens for Next Several Weeks

The center lane approaching the Robert F. Kennedy Bridge’s Bronx toll plaza heading to Queens will be closed around-the-clock for the next several weeks for construction.

 

Drivers are urged to use both the right and left lanes to circumvent the center lane closure. Motorists should expect delays and allow extra time.

$50 Million Design-Build Project Underway At Robert F. Kennedy Bridge’s Manhattan/Queens Ramp

A $50 million design/build project to reconstruct the Manhattan/Queens ramp at the Robert F. Kennedy Bridge is underway with a new traffic pattern that shifts motorists to the left as they enter the ramp and then merges ramp traffic with mainline traffic just south of the Bronx toll plaza.

RFK Harlem River Lift Span Full 20 Minute Closure Wednesday Morning for Marine Traffic

The Robert F. Kennedy Bridge’s Harlem River lift span will be closed in both directions Wed., April 3rd at approximately 3:30 a.m. for marine traffic. The time is contingent on when the  vessel arrives at the bridge.

The closure, which will last about 15-20 minutes, is required under federal maritime law.  Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes during this time to avoid delays.
