New Traffic Pattern In Place At Manhattan-bound Henry Hudson Bridge

A new traffic pattern is in place at the Manhattan-bound Henry Hudson Bridge as part of MTA Bridges and Tunnels’ $8.9 million Capital project to install overhead Open Road Tolling (ORT) steel gantries on the Manhattan-bound and Bronx-bound toll plazas.

The construction zone was recently shifted into the center lane where contractor El Sol is making full-depth, asphalt and concrete repairs and readying the roadway for the conduits needed to install roadway sensors that are used in the ORT system.

Brooklyn-bound Marine Parkway Bridge Closed Nightly This Sunday to Wednesday

The Brooklyn-bound (north) side of the Marine Parkway-Gil Hodges Memorial Bridge will be closed to traffic nightly from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sun., Oct. 11 through Wed., Oct. 14 to allow for setting of the steel on the new Rockaway Point Boulevard overpass.

The work is dependent on good weather and may be canceled in the event of rain.

All north-bound traffic will be detoured each night to the Cross Bay Veteran Memorial Bridge between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m., with the exception of the Q35 bus, which will continue to operate along its normal route.

Hugh L Carey Tunnel Tube Closure

One tube at the Hugh L Carey Tunnel will be closed from 11 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9 through 7 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 10 as part of the four-year, $282.5 million Sandy repair project.

One lane will operate in each direction in the remaining tube. Motorists may experience delays. This work is weather dependent and may be canceled if it rains.

The Sandy repair project includes replacing multiple systems that were damaged in the 2012 Superstorm Sandy event including the entire traffic control and communications, lighting, drainage pump and fire line systems.

RFK Bridge Harlem River Lift Span Will Have Intermittent Closures This Friday

There will be intermittent, full closures in both directions at the Robert F. Kennedy Bridge’s Harlem River Lift Span on Fri., Oct. 9 between 12:01 a.m. and 5 a.m. for maintenance work.

Each closure will last approximately 15-20 minutes. Motorists will experience delays and should consider an alternate route.

Street Near Verrazano-Narrows Bridge Renamed In Honor Of MTA Bridge and Tunnel Officer Thomas Choi

MTA Bridges and Tunnels officials, Staten Island elected officials and family members of fallen MTA Bridge and Tunnel Officer Thomas Choi attended a solemn ceremony Monday to rename a portion of Major Avenue in honor of Choi, who was critically injured at the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge in October 2013 and succumbed to those injuries last December after remaining in a coma for 14 months.

The roadway is located directly behind the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge administration building where Choi was assigned during his 11-years of service at MTA Bridges and Tunnels.

Hugh L. Carey Tunnel Closed Sun., Sept. 27 for the Annual Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Run

The Hugh L. Carey Tunnel will be closed Sunday, Sept., 27 from 7:45 a.m. until approximately 3 p.m. for the 14th annual Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Run, commemorating the FDNY firefighter’s run through the tunnel to the World Trade Center on 9/11.

Motorists are advised to use an alternate route.

One tube at the tunnel will be closed from 10 p.m. Sat., Sept. 26 through 3 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 27. There will be one lane open in each direction in the remaining tube until both tubes are closed at 7:45 a.m. on Sunday.

Throgs Neck Bridge Work Weekend Lane Closures

Several Bronx-bound lanes and one Queens-bound lane at the Throgs Neck Bridge will be closed this weekend, September 18 - 21 for asphalt and binder work on the bridge.

One Bronx-bound lane will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Monday.

On Friday and Saturday nights, a second lane will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday night until 7 a.m. Saturday and again from 10 p.m. Sunday night until 5 a.m. Monday.
