Verrazano-Narrows Bridge Staten Island-bound Lower Level Closure for Annual Five Boro Bike Tour

The Staten Island-bound lower level of the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge will be closed from 2 a.m. until 6 p.m. Sunday, May 3 for the annual TD Five Boro Bike Tour. The upper level of the bridge will remain open in both directions throughout the event. Motorists should expect delays and allow extra travel time. First of Three Construction Projects That Will Lead To Removal Of Henry Hudson Bridge Toll Plazas Set To Begin

MTA Bridges and Tunnels will begin work on the first of three Capital Improvement construction projects at the Henry Hudson Bridge that will result in the removal of the 1930s-era toll plazas beginning in 2017.

The projects, to be done consecutively, include the installation of Open Road Tolling (ORT) gantry-based equipment on both the upper and lower levels of the bridge; in-depth integrated equipment testing of the ORT system; and the removal of the concrete islands and toll booths from both the upper and lower levels of the bridge.

Marine Parkway Bridge Work To Reconstruct Rockaway Point Overpass Set To Begin

MTA Bridges and Tunnels is set to begin a Capital Construction project to reconstruct the nearly 50-year-old Rockaway Point Boulevard Overpass at the Marine Parkway-Gil Hodges Memorial Bridge using an accelerated construction timeline that will see work completed by the end of this year.

RFK Harlem River Lift Span Full 20 Minute Closure

The Robert F. Kennedy Bridge’s Harlem River lift span will be closed in both directions Mon., April 6 at approximately 2 p.m. to allow for marine traffic. The time is contingent on when the vessel arrives at the bridge.

Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes during this time to avoid delays. The closure will last about 15-20 minutes. The waterway is regulated by the U.S. Coast Guard and under federal maritime law bridge lifts are mandatory when requested.

Bronx-Whitestone Bridge’s 14th Avenue Exit Temporarily Closed Fri., March 27-Sat. March 28

The Bronx-Whitestone Bridge’s 14th Avenue exit will be closed from 11 p.m. Fri., March 27 until 6 a.m. Sat., March 28 for necessary work.

Contractor E.E. Cruz/Tully will be removing a temporary concrete barrier and completing repaving work. Motorists will be detoured to the next exit at 20th Avenue.

Governor Cuomo Announces MTA to Award Superstorm Sandy Repair and Capital Improvement Projects at Queens Midtown Tunnel

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced that the Metropolitan Transportation Authority intends to award a four-year, $236.5 million contract to rebuild the Queens Midtown Tunnel, which was heavily damaged during Superstorm Sandy and since has been operating with temporary repairs. The contract – which would be with Judlau Contracting Inc. – was approved by the MTA Bridges and Tunnels Committee today and is expected to be approved by the full MTA Board on Wednesday.

RFK Bridge Queens Span Pedestrian Walkway Will Be Closed Seven Days In March and Beginning of April

The Robert F. Kennedy Bridge pedestrian walkway on the Queens span of the bridge will be closed around-the-clock for electrical work March 23-24 and again the week of March 30–April 3.

There will be no access for pedestrians and bicyclists who walk their bikes across the path beginning 6 a.m. Mon., March 23 through Tues., March 24 at 5 p.m. and from 6 a.m. Mon., March 30 through 5 p.m. on Fri. April 3.

The work is only being done on the Queens span of the bridge. The 125th Street pedestrian walkway will remain open.

One Lane Closed On RFK Bridge Ramp to Bruckner Expressway For Repair Work

One of two lanes on the Robert F. Kennedy Bridge’s ramp leading from the bridge to the Bruckner Expressway will be closed for repair work March 16 through April 13. One lane on the ramp will remain open at all times.

Motorists may experience delays and should allot extra travel time. The work includes removing all of the existing concrete and replacing it with new concrete.

The closure will begin Mon., March 16 after the morning rush concludes and will remain in effect around the clock until the work is completed. All work is dependent on good weather.

Hugh L. Carey Tunnel Nightly Tube Closures For Sandy Repair Work Through 2018

MTA Bridges and Tunnels announced that work to repair and restore damage to the Hugh L. Carey Tunnel caused by Superstorm Sandy is set to begin next week and will require nightly closures of one tunnel tube through 2018. In addition, there will be weekend-long closures of one tunnel tube at least once a month.
