Beach Channel Drive Eastbound Lane, Breezy Point Exit Ramp of Marine Parkway Bridge to Close Through April for Ramp Improvement Project

Starting on Monday, March 14, 2016, MTA Bridges and Tunnels will close one eastbound lane on Beach Channel Drive from the Marine Parkway-Gil Hodges Memorial Bridge and the Breezy Point exit ramp to accommodate work on the roadway and shoulder of the ramp. This lane heading east from the Marine Parkway Bridge to the area before the Jacob Riis Pedestrian Bridge will be closed around-the-clock through the end of April.

Lift Tests at RFK Bridge Harlem River Lift Span Scheduled for Early Friday

Intermittent, full closures at the Robert F. Kennedy Bridge’s Harlem River Lift Span are scheduled on Friday, March 11, from 12:01 a.m. to 5 a.m. for maintenance work.

Each closure lasts approximately 20 minutes. Motorists may experience delays and should consider an alternate route.

Marine Parkway Bridge to Conduct Overnight Maintenance Test Lifts

MTA Bridges and Tunnels will be conducting intermittent full test lifts at the Marine Parkway-Gil Hodges Memorial Bridge from 12:01 a.m. to 5 a.m. on Wednesday, March 9, for necessary maintenance work.

Each closure will last approximately 20 minutes. Motorists will experience delays and may wish to use an alternate route.

Shifting Lane, Ramp Closures This Weekend at RFK Bridge Bronx Toll Plaza

MTA Bridges and Tunnels will have shifting lane and ramp closures at the Robert F. Kennedy Bridge for both directions in the area after the Bronx toll plaza and approach ramps from 10 p.m. Friday, March 4, to 11 p.m. Sunday, March 6.

The closures are required for full-depth roadway repairs in both directions. The work includes removing and replacing sections of roadway, as well as surface repaving.

Motorists should expect delays and may wish to consider an alternate route.

One Rockaway-bound Lane of Marine Parkway Bridge to Close Weekdays

Beginning Monday, March 7, one Rockaway-bound (southbound) lane on the Marine Parkway-Gil Hodges Memorial Bridge will be closed weekdays until the middle of May. The single lane closure is required to accommodate installation of a platform under the roadway for associated steel repairs to the bridge.

The lane will be closed each Monday from 7a.m. and reopen each Friday after 1 p.m. for weekend traffic.

Brooklyn-bound (northbound) traffic is not affected by this work. The pedestrian walkway will remain open.

Weeknight Closures of Manhattan-bound Tube of Queens Midtown Tunnel Begin March 7 for Superstorm Sandy Repairs

Beginning Monday night, March 7, 2016, the Manhattan-bound (north) tube of the Queens Midtown Tunnel will be closed during weeknights for approximately 18 months to accommodate Superstorm Sandy restoration work. One lane will remain open in each direction in the other tube during these periods.

Closures will take place between 10:30 p.m. and 5:30 a.m., Monday through Thursday. On Fridays, the closures will take place from 11 p.m. to 8 a.m. Saturday.

Traffic from East 125 Street to RFK Bridge On-Ramp at Second Ave Shifts to Temporary Ramp at First Avenue

Beginning Wednesday, February 24, traffic originating from East 125th Street in Harlem seeking access to the Robert F. Kennedy Bridge via the on-ramp at Second Avenue will be detoured onto a temporary access ramp at First Avenue. The detour will allow for staged demolition and reconstruction of the original ramp, which was built in the mid-1930s.

Hugh L Carey Tunnel Tube Closure Friday Overnight, Saturday

One tube at the Hugh L Carey Tunnel will be closed from 9:30 p.m. Friday, January 29, to 5 p.m., Saturday, January 30, as part of a four-year $282.5 million Superstorm Sandy repair project.

One lane will operate in each direction in the remaining tube. Motorists may experience delays. This work is weather dependent and may be canceled in the event of inclement weather.

The repair project includes replacing multiple systems that were damaged during Superstorm Sandy in 2012, such as the traffic control and communications, lighting, drainage pump and fire line systems.

Staten Island-bound Entrance Ramp from Belt Parkway to Verrazano-Narrows Bridge to be Closed Overnight on January 20, 21

The entrance to the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge from the Belt Parkway will be closed overnight from Wednesday, January 20, into Thursday morning, January 21, and again overnight Thursday into Friday morning, January 22. The closures are required for the installation of new girders as part of an $84.3 million project to reconstruct the ramp and build a new bus/HOV ramp. The work is dependent on weather and may be canceled if it rains.
