MTA Bridges and Tunnels Wins Award For Travel Time and Real Time Travel Info From Nation's Largest Transportation Technology Organization

MTA Bridges and Tunnels received an award by Intelligent Transportation Society of America, the nation's largest transportation technology organization, for two new programs that help drivers avoid traffic congestion through accurate travel time information.

ITS America's Smart Solution Spotlight award was given to Bridges and Tunnels for the agency's Real Time travel signs and the MTA Travel Time website traffic tool.

Queens Midtown Tunnel Tube Heading Into Manhattan Closed For Necessary Work 9 PM Fri., July 8th Through 2:00 AM Mon., July 11th

The Queens Midtown Tunnel tube leading into Manhattan will be closed to traffic beginning 9 PM on Friday, July 8th through 2:00 AM on Mon., July 11th while necessary construction and rehabilitation work is performed.

Two-way traffic operation will be in effect in the remaining tube for cars and NYCT buses only during this time. Commercial traffic must use an alternate route while two-way traffic operations are in effect.

MTA Bridges and Tunnels, in cooperation with the Greater Astoria Historical Society, will commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Robert F. Kennedy (originally known as Triborough) Bridge on Monday, July 11th with the opening of a special photography exhibit, featuring images rarely seen by the public.

Customers Love Convenience Of Buying E-ZPass On The Go Tags At Henry Hudson Bridge Cash Lanes

It's a hit! Customers are snapping up E-ZPass On The Go tags, which went on sale in the cash lanes at the Henry Hudson Bridge on June 27th. Through 1 p.m. on Friday, a total of 467 tags were sold.

"We're happy to make it easier than ever for motorists to experience the convenience of E-ZPass, which is good for customers, good for the environment and good for the MTA," said Bridges and Tunnels President Jim Ferrara.

MTA's Flagship RFK Bridge Targeted For A Nearly $1 Billion Capital Improvement Projects Spanning The Next 15 Years

The sprawling Robert F. Kennedy Bridge, which connects Manhattan, the Bronx and Queens and serves a combined average 170,000 vehicles daily, will undergo nearly $1 billion in capital improvements over the next 15 years in order to make sure the 75-year-old bridge continues to be able to meet 21st century traffic demands.

Long-term work includes completely reconstructing the bridge structures that support the Manhattan and Bronx toll plazas, as well as several smaller projects that will focus on rehabilitating or replacing the bridge's seven ramps.

Special Traffic Advisory: New Traffic Pattern At RFK – Manhattan Plaza

A new traffic pattern will be in place at the Manhattan toll plaza at the Robert F. Kennedy Bridge beginning Friday, July 1st while repaving work is done on the plaza.

Due to the location of the work, motorists coming from the Bronx will not be able to access the Bronx/Manhattan to Randall's Island ramp.

MTA Bridges and Tunnels Ready for July Fourth Weekend Traffic

MTA Bridges and Tunnels will suspend all routine maintenance work at its seven bridges and two tunnels beginning Noon Fri., July 1st through the end of the morning rush on Tuesday, July 5th to help smooth travel for those who will be hitting the road for the long July Fourth holiday weekend.

In recent years traffic figures indicate that the Thursday is the new getaway day for the start of the holiday season, with more vehicles traveling on that day than the traditional pre-holiday Friday.

Special Traffic Advisory: New Traffic Pattern at Bronx-Whitestone Bridge Begins Saturday, June 25th as Bronx Approach Roadway Deck Replacement Work Continues

A new traffic pattern on the southbound (to Queens) side of the Bronx-Whitestone Bridge will begin Saturday, June 25th as rehabilitation work on the bridge's Bronx approach roadway continues.

Motorists will notice a slight shift as they travel through the construction zone, which will include two lanes to the far right, the work zone near the center lane, and the reversible lane to the far left. Signs will be in place to direct motorists, and drivers are urged to stay in lane.
