Queens Midtown Tunnel Manhattan-bound Tube Closed For Roadway Work Beginning 1 AM, Sun., Nov. 8th Through 5:30 AM Mon., Nov. 9th

Two–Way Traffic Will Run in Remaining Tube

Necessary repair work in the Queens Midtown Tunnel will result in the closure of both lanes of the Manhattan–bound tube of the tunnel from 1 AM on Sunday, Nov. 8th through 5:30 AM on Monday, Nov. 9th. Two–way traffic will be in effect in the remaining tube for cars only during this period.  Motorists should expect delays. Trucks are asked to use either the Robert F. Kennedy Bridge or Brooklyn–Battery Tunnel.

Verrazano-Narrows Bridge LED Necklace Lights Add "Green" Sparkle to New York Harbor Entrance

MTA Bridges and Tunnels has replaced all 262 old mercury vapor fixtures on its necklace lighting with energy–saving, cost efficient light–emitting diode (LED) fixtures at the Verrazano–Narrows Bridge, gateway to the New York City harbor.  The move will reduce the electrical power required for the necklace lighting by 73%.  (See photo.)

MTA Bridges and Tunnels Honors Officers For Life-Saving Actions

MTA Bridges and Tunnels President Susan Kupferman awarded the agency's highest awards, Medal of Honor and President's Medal, to five Bridges and Tunnels Officers at an Oct. 8th ceremony at the Robert Moses Building on Randall's Island. The awards are presented to Bridge and Tunnel Officers (BTOs), Sergeants and Lieutenants for extraordinary valor in the line of duty.

MTA Bridges and Tunnels Statement on Throgs Neck Bridge Accident

There was a fatal contractor accident involving a contractor's employee and vehicle on the Throgs Neck Bridge this morning. No further information on the deceased is available. The accident is under investigation.

Northbound access to the bridge from the Clearview Expressway and Cross Island Parkway ramp was restored shortly after 12 Noon.

Cross Island Parkway Ramp And Throgs Neck Bridge Lane To Reopen Monday

MTA Bridges and Tunnels announced today that the northbound Cross Island Parkway ramp to the Throgs Neck Bridge and a third northbound lane will reopen Monday, Aug. 10 at 12:01 AM. The ramp and one of three northbound bridge lanes have been closed since a construction site fire on July 10th.

Bronx-bound Throgs Neck Bridge: Saturday, July 25th At 12:01 AM

Beginning Saturday, July 25th  at 12:01 AM, truck traffic ordinarily allowed on the northbound (to Bronx) Throgs Neck Bridge—including 6– and 7–axle trucks not exceeding 105,000 GVW with valid City or State Divisible Load Permits, and 5–axle trucks not exceeding 102,000 lbs.—will be permitted to use these lanes again with the following special instructions:

MTA Bridges and Tunnels Announces Repair Plan for Throgs Neck

Near Normal Operation by August 10; Most Trucks Return This Week

MTA officials today announced a series of repairs that will return the Throgs Neck Bridge, the scene of a construction fire on July 10, to near normal operation by August 10. By this Saturday, July 25, initial repairs will be completed and the ban for most trucks, including State divisible load permitted trucks that weigh up to 105,000 pounds, will be lifted.

Throgs Neck Weekend Update

Repair and Traffic Management Plan Due Tuesday,
Mitigation Plans in Place to Ease Traffic

In the wake of last week’s fire on the Throgs Neck Bridge, MTA Bridges and Tunnels engineers and outside experts are expediting repair plans.  Officials will outline repair and traffic management plans at a media briefing Tuesday, July 21 at 11 am in Fort Totten Park, adjacent to the bridge in Queens.

MTA Bridges and Tunnels Statement on Fire at the Throgs Neck Bridge

The Throgs Neck Bridge continues to be closed in both directions due to a fire on scaffolding under the bridge where contractors were working this morning. No reports of injuries.  The Fire Department is on the scene along with engineers. There is currently no estimate of when the bridge might reopen. That will be a decision made by the Fire Department and engineers on the scene. Traffic is being diverted to the Bronx Whitestone and RFK Bridges.
