Permanent Lane Closure Lifted At Bronx-Whitestone Bridge Three Lanes Open In Each Direction During Peak Drive Times Beginning Mon., Oct. 24th

As the fall and winter holiday season gets underway there is good news for motorists who use the Bronx- Whitestone Bridge. Work requiring a round-the-clock lane closure of one of the bridge's six lanes has been completed and three lanes in each direction will once again be available during peak drive times.

Special Traffic Advisory Bronx-Whitestone Reversible Lane Closed 11 PM Sat., Oct. 8 Until 11 AM Sun., Oct. 9 For Concrete Pour Two Lanes Will Remain Open In Each Direction

Beginning Saturday, Oct. 8th at 11 p.m. and continuing until 11 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 9th, the reversible lane at the Bronx-Whitestone Bridge, which is normally opened southbound to Queens on weekends, will be closed while a new concrete roadway is poured.

Two lanes will remain open heading to the Bronx and two lanes will be open heading into Queens while this work is completed. Motorists may experience delays and should consider using the Throgs Neck Bridge as an alternate.

All work is weather-permitting.

Queens Firm Awarded $50 Million Contract For Second Phase Of Verrazano-Narrows Toll Plaza Improvement Project Contract Under Budget; 20 Percent of Work To Minority and Women Subcontractors

MTA Bridges and Tunnels announced the award of a $50 million contract to a Queens construction firm for the final phase of the Verrazano-Narrows toll plaza improvement project. The work includes removing the remaining three unused eastbound toll booths, improvements to the entrance and exit ramps and rehabilitation of the eastbound toll plaza.

E-ZPass On The Go Sales Hit 5,000 Mark In Cash Lanes At Henry Hudson Bridge

Three months after a pilot program to sell E-ZPass On The Go in cash lanes at the Henry Hudson Bridge began more than 5,000 electronic tags have been sold, proving that customers love the ease of using E-ZPass.

"We're pleased that people are embracing the convenience of E-ZPass, which in the long run is a win-win for everyone," said MTA Bridges and Tunnels President Jim Ferrara. "It helps motorists save time and money, helps us keep traffic moving, and helps the environment by reducing emissions from idling vehicles."

SPECIAL TRAFFIC ADVISORY: Bike MS 2011 Event Sun., Oct. 2nd Means Traffic Diversions At Henry Hudson, Robert F. Kennedy Bridges And Brooklyn-Battery Tunnel

The Bike MS 2011 is being held on Sunday, Oct. 2nd. Closures will be in effect that may impact motorists who normally use the MTA's Robert F. Kennedy, Henry Hudson and Brooklyn-Battery Tunnel facilities.

Henry Hudson
7 a.m. to Noon: Closures of the Henry Hudson Parkway between the Mosholu Parkway to the bridge and Dyckman Street south to Battery Park via the West Side Highway means that drivers will not be able to access the bridge from the parkway.

Brooklyn-Battery Tunnel Closed Both Directions For "Tunnels to Towers" Run Sun., Sept. 25th From 8 AM to 3 PM Partial Closures Begin Sat., 9/24 at 11 PM

The Brooklyn-Battery Tunnel will be closed to all traffic on Sunday, Sept., 25th between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. for the 10th annual Stephen Siller "Tunnel to Towers" Run, commemorating the FDNY firefighter's run through the tunnel to the World Trade Center on 9/11.

Motorists are advised to use alternate routes.

In addition, both lanes in the Manhattan-bound tube will be closed beginning 11 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 24th. Two-way traffic operations will be in place in the Brooklyn-bound tube at this time.

Construction Of New $12.4 Million Southbound Harlem River Drive Ramp To Robert F. Kennedy Bridge Begins In September

The Harlem River Drive southbound ramp leading onto the Robert F. Kennedy Bridge will be closed beginning Sept. 12th through the end of the year as part of a nearly $12.4 million Capital Construction project to replace the nearly 50-year-old ramp. A temporary ramp will be constructed in its place, giving motorists access to the RFK Bridge ramp at 125th Street after a brief detour through local streets.

MTA Bridges and Tunnels Suspends Routine Maintenance Work For Labor Day Weekend Beginning Friday, Sept. 2nd At Noon

MTA Bridges and Tunnels will suspend all routine maintenance work at its seven bridges and two tunnels beginning Noon Fri., Sept. 2nd through the end of the morning rush on Tuesday, Sept. 6th to help smooth travel for those hitting the road for the Labor Day weekend.

In 2010, a total of nearly 3.1 million vehicles used MTA crossings over the Labor Day holiday from Friday through Monday.
