Eleven Peregrine Falcon Chicks Banded At 3 MTA Bridges
Eleven peregrine falcon chicks, with cityscape views to die for, were recently banded at three MTA bridges as part of the state nesting program that MTA Bridges and Tunnels has been part of since 1983.

One Tube Closed This Weekend At Hugh L. Carey Tunnel
One tube at the Hugh L. Carey Tunnel will be closed from 9 p.m. Fri., May 16 through 5 a.m. Mon., May 19 as part of the project to replace the tunnel’s original 1950s-era electrical switches and feeder cables.
The remaining tube will have one lane heading into Manhattan and one lane into Brooklyn. Motorists are advised to expect delays and use an alternate route if possible.

UPDATES With New Dates Due To Weather: Bronx-Whitestone Bridge Queens Approach Night Work
With the next stage of construction set to begin as part of the Bronx-Whitestone Bridge’s $109 million Queens approach reconstruction and rehabilitation project, two of three southbound lanes heading into Queens will be closed during overnight hours on May 12-13 and May 13-14. 
Once the new work zone is established, drivers who plan to exit onto the 14th Avenue ramp must stay in the right lane when traveling over the bridge.  This traffic pattern will be in effect for approximately six weeks.

Verrazano-Narrows Bridge’s Staten Island-bound Lower Level Closed Daytime Sunday, May 4 For Five Boro Bike Tour

The Staten Island-bound lower level of the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge will be closed from 12:01 a.m. until 6 p.m. Sunday, May 4 for the annual TD Bank Five Boro Bike Tour. The upper level of the bridge will remain open in both directions throughout the event.

Motorists should expect delays and allow extra travel time. To hear information about all the Verrazano-Narrow Bridge bike tour closures, call 212 360-3000.

RFK Harlem River Lift Span Full 20 Minute Closure Tonight for Marine Traffic
The Robert F. Kennedy Bridge’s Harlem River lift span will be closed in both directions Monday, April 28th at approximately 7 p.m. to allow for marine traffic. The time is contingent on when the vessel arrives at the bridge. Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes during this time to avoid delays. 
The closure will last about 15-20 minutes. The waterway is regulated by the U.S. Coast Guard and under federal maritime law bridge lifts are mandatory when requested.

E-ZPass On-the-Go Sales in Cash Lanes Tops 300,000 At MTA Crossings
More than 300,000 E-ZPass On-the-Go tags have been sold in cash lanes at MTA’s seven bridges and two tunnels since the program began in June 2011, proving that drivers love the convenience and savings of 
E-ZPass rather than sitting in long lines, fumbling for cash and change at toll booths. 
Sales in cash lanes reached the 300,000 milestone on Thursday, April 3. The tags can be purchased in cash lanes for $30, plus the price of the current trip.

Marine Parkway Pedestrian Walkway Closed During Daytime Hours Beginning Monday, April 14

The Marine Parkway-Gil Hodges Memorial Bridge pedestrian walkway will be closed to pedestrians and bicyclists daily from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. beginning Monday, April 14 while the mile-long, six-foot-wide walkway is resurfaced.

Free shuttle buses, which can hold eight passengers and four bicycles, will ferry pedestrians and bikers across the bridge at approximately 15-minute intervals throughout the day while the path is closed. The walkway will be reopened each day after 5 p.m.

Bronx-Whitestone Bridge: Celebrating 75 Years

MTA Bridges and Tunnels’ Bronx-Whitestone Bridge will celebrate the 75th anniversary of the bridge’s 1939 opening with historic exhibits at museums in Queens and the Bronx, and will kick off with a roundtable discussion on the history of the bridge this month.
