New Traffic Pattern At Bronx-Whitestone Bridge Queens Approach
A new traffic pattern went into effect at the Queens approach roadway to the Bronx-Whitestone Bridge on Thursday, Feb. 20 as part of the $109 million reconstruction and rehabilitation project. 
In this next phase of construction, traffic will be shifted around the work zone on the far left-hand lane southbound. A movable barrier will continue to be used to maximize lane capacity during peak drive times with three lanes into the Bronx from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. and three lanes into Queens from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. and on weekends.

One Tube Closed All Weekend At Hugh L. Carey Tunnel Feb. 21-24

One tube at the Hugh L. Carey Tunnel will be closed from 9 p.m. Fri., Feb. 21 through 5 a.m. Mon., Feb. 24 as part of the project to replace the tunnel’s original 1950s-era electrical switches and feeder cables.

The remaining tube will have one lane heading into Manhattan and one lane into Brooklyn. Motorists are advised to expect delays and use an alternate route if possible.

New Traffic Pattern At Robert F. Kennedy Bridge’s Manhattan/Queens Ramp  Begins This Weekend
The $50 million design/build project to reconstruct the Manhattan/Queens ramp at the Robert F. Kennedy Bridge moves to the next phase of construction with a new traffic pattern in place beginning Saturday, Jan. 18.
Crews will work overnight beginning 9 p.m. tonight until 10 a.m. Wed., Jan. 15 milling and paving on the ramp. One lane will remain open at all times. Motorists may experience some delays in the morning.

RFK Bridge Harlem River Lift Span Intermittent Closures
The Robert F. Kennedy Bridge’s Harlem River Lift Span will have intermittent closures of up to 20 minutes Fri., Jan. 10 between 12:01 a.m. and 5 a.m. for maintenance work.
Motorists should expect delays and use an alternate route if possible. Each closure is expected to last between 15 and 20 minutes.

Work Canceled: One Tube Closed At Hugh L. Carey Tunnel

This weekend’s planned closure of one tube at the Hugh L. Carey Tunnel has been canceled. The work, scheduled for Fri., Dec. 6 through Mon., Dec. 9, was part of an ongoing project to replace the tunnel’s original 1950s-era electrical switches and feeder cables. 

There will be no other weekend-long closures for the rest of the month. The work will resume early in 2014.

New Toll Plaza Configuration At Throgs Neck Bridge Begins Mon., Dec. 9

Cash lanes at the Queens-bound Throgs Neck Bridge will be moved to the right side of the plaza beginning Monday, Dec. 9. This new traffic configuration is being put in place in an effort to improve traffic flow at the toll plaza.

After a similar change was made in August at the Bronx-Whitestone Queens-bound plaza, MTA Bridges and Tunnels Traffic Engineers and Operations personnel concluded that grouping cash lanes to the right side of the plaza could maximize toll plaza efficiency at the Throgs Neck Bridge as well.

Routine Construction Suspended at MTA Crossings for Thanksgiving Holiday
To ease travel for its customers this Thanksgiving, routine maintenance and temporary construction work at all MTA Bridges and Tunnels crossings will be suspended beginning Noon on Wed., Nov.27th through early Monday morning, Dec. 2nd.

250,000 Drivers Buy Convenient MTA E-ZPass On-the-Go Tags

MTA Bridges and Tunnels reached a milestone as the 250,000th E-ZPass On-the-Go tag was sold in a toll plaza cash lane at one of its seven bridges and two tunnels. The sale means a quarter of a million drivers have used the new option to switch to the savings and convenience of E-ZPass instead of fumbling for cash and change at tollbooths.
