Hugh L Carey Tunnel One Tube Closed Friday Night

One tube at the Hugh L Carey Tunnel will be closed to traffic this Friday night into Saturday morning for removal of ceiling tiles damaged during Superstorm Sandy.

The closure will begin 9 p.m. Friday, Jan. 16 and last through 5 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 17. The remaining tube will have one lane operating in each direction during this time.

Motorists may experience delays, and may want to consider using an alternate route.

Line Of Duty Funeral Planned To Honor MTA Bridge and Tunnel Officer Thomas Choi

MTA Bridge and Tunnel Officer Thomas Choi will be honored with a full, line of duty funeral to be held next week Thursday, Jan. 8 and Friday, Jan. 9. Officer Choi, who was critically injured by a vehicle while reopening a roadway at the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge in October 2013, passed away on Monday after remaining in a coma for 14 months.

Officer Choi, 62, an 11-year veteran of the agency, became the first Bridge and Tunnel Officer to die in the line of duty in the 81-year history of MTA Bridges and Tunnels, which is formally known as the Triborough Bridge and Tunnel Authority.

MTA Bridges and Tunnels Officer Succumbs to Injuries Suffered In 2013 Collision at Verrazano-Narrows Bridge

It is with great sadness that the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) announces that MTA Bridges and Tunnels Officer Thomas Choi has succumbed to injuries suffered in an Oct. 20, 2013 collision at the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge.

Officer Choi is the first Bridge and Tunnel Officer to die in the line of duty in the 81-year history of MTA Bridges and Tunnels, which is formally known as the Triborough Bridge and Tunnel Authority.

Bronx-Whitestone Bridge Nighttime Lane Closures

The Bronx-Whitestone Bridge will have two Queensbound lanes and one lane to the Bronx closed during overnight hours two nights next week while the Queens Approach is being restored back to a six-lane configuration as the $109 million reconstruction and rehabilitation project reaches its next milestone.

Governor Cuomo Announces Completion of Verrazano-Narrows Bridge Plaza Improvements

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced that Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) Bridges and Tunnels has completed a $50 million project to rebuild the Staten Island toll plaza of the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge, improving traffic flow from Staten Island approaches onto the bridge. The three-year project was completed on budget and seven months ahead of schedule.

RFK Harlem River Lift Span Full 20 Minute Closure Tuesday for Marine Traffic

The Robert F. Kennedy Bridge’s Harlem River lift span will be closed in both directions Tuesday, Nov. 25 at approximately 4:30 a.m. to allow for marine traffic. The time is contingent on when the vessel arrives at the bridge. Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes during this time to avoid delays.

The closure will last about 15-20 minutes. The waterway is regulated by the U.S. Coast Guard and under federal maritime law bridge lifts are mandatory when requested.

MTA Bridges and Tunnels Celebrates 50 Years of Service At Verrazano-Narrows Bridge

MTA Chairman and CEO Thomas F. Prendergast along with MTA Bridges and Tunnels officials celebrated the anniversary of the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge today, 50 years to the day after it first opened, at a ceremony complete with a 50-gun salute and a fireboat water display with the bridge itself serving as a spectacular backdrop.

Queens Firm to be Awarded $282.5 Million Contract for Sandy Repairs at Hugh L. Carey Tunnel

RFK Bridge Harlem River Lift Span Intermittent Full Closures This Friday, Oct. 31

There will be multiple, intermittent closures at the Robert F. Kennedy Bridge’s Harlem River Lift Span Fri., Oct. 31 between 12:01 a.m. and 5 a.m. for maintenance work.

Motorists should expect delays and use an alternate route if possible. Each closure is expected to last up to approximately 20 minutes.
