Hugh L Carey Tunnel Tube Closed This Weekend

One tube at the Hugh L Carey Tunnel will be closed from 9:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2 to 9:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3 as part of the four-year, $282.5 million Sandy repair project.

One lane will operate in each direction in the remaining tube. Motorists may experience delays. This work is weather dependent and may be canceled if it rains.

The Sandy repair project includes replacing multiple systems that were damaged in the 2012 Superstorm Sandy event including the entire traffic control and communications, lighting, drainage pump and fire line systems.

Street Near Verrazano-Narrows Bridge Renamed In Honor Of MTA Bridge and Tunnel Officer Thomas Choi

MTA Bridges and Tunnels officials, Staten Island elected officials and family members of fallen MTA Bridge and Tunnel Officer Thomas Choi attended a solemn ceremony Monday to rename a portion of Major Avenue in honor of Choi, who was critically injured at the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge in October 2013 and succumbed to those injuries last December after remaining in a coma for 14 months.

The roadway is located directly behind the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge administration building where Choi was assigned during his 11-years of service at MTA Bridges and Tunnels.

Brooklyn-bound Marine Parkway Bridge Closed Overnight Oct. 1-8

The Brooklyn-bound (north) side of the Marine Parkway-Gil Hodges Memorial Bridge will be closed to traffic during overnight hours from Monday night through Friday morning, Oct. 1-8 to allow for setting of the steel on the new Rockaway Point Boulevard overpass.

All north-bound traffic will be detoured to the Cross Island Veterans Memorial Bridge between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. nightly with the exception of the Q35 bus, which will continue to operate along its normal route.

Hugh L. Carey Tunnel Closed Sun., Sept. 27 for the Annual Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Run

The Hugh L. Carey Tunnel will be closed Sunday, Sept., 27 from 7:45 a.m. until approximately 3 p.m. for the 14th annual Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Run, commemorating the FDNY firefighter’s run through the tunnel to the World Trade Center on 9/11.

Motorists are advised to use an alternate route.

One tube at the tunnel will be closed from 10 p.m. Sat., Sept. 26 through 3 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 27. There will be one lane open in each direction in the remaining tube until both tubes are closed at 7:45 a.m. on Sunday.

Throgs Neck Bridge Work Weekend Lane Closures

Several Bronx-bound lanes and one Queens-bound lane at the Throgs Neck Bridge will be closed this weekend, September 18 - 21 for asphalt and binder work on the bridge.

One Bronx-bound lane will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Monday.

On Friday and Saturday nights, a second lane will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday night until 7 a.m. Saturday and again from 10 p.m. Sunday night until 5 a.m. Monday.

Hugh L Carey Tunnel Tube Closure This Weekend

One tube at the Hugh L Carey Tunnel will be closed for designated periods this weekend, from Friday night to Monday morning, Sept. 18 to Sept. 21, as part of the four-year, $282.5 million contract for Sandy repair work, as well as maintenance tasks.

Two-way traffic will be in effect in the remaining tube when the closure periods occur. Motorists should allow extra travel time and use an alternate route if possible.

Throgs Neck Bridge Work Weekend Lane Closures

Up to two Bronx-bound lanes at the Throgs Neck Bridge will be closed this weekend, Aug. 28-31, for asphalt and binder work on the bridge.

One Bronx-bound lane will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Monday.

Beginning Friday to Monday morning, a second Bronx-bound lane will be closed during overnight hours. On Friday night and Saturday night, the closures will occur from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m.

On Sunday night into Monday morning, the closure will occur from 10 p.m. Sunday to 5 a.m. Monday.

Verrazano-Narrows Bridge Upper-Level Replacement Project Enters New Stage of Roadway Construction

Starting Saturday morning, August 29, MTA Bridges and Tunnels will move into the next stage of construction work in the $235.7 million Verrazano-Narrows Bridge upper level deck replacement project. Upper-level lane closures in both directions will be necessary on Friday night, August 28, to allow for the transition.

Queens Midtown Tunnel Manhattan-bound Tube Closed Weeknights

Starting Monday night, August 31, the Manhattan-bound (north) tube of the Queens Midtown Tunnel will be closed during weekday overnight hours for eight weeks of Sandy restoration work. One lane will remain open in each direction in the other tube.

The closures will take place nightly between 10:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m., Monday through Thursday. On Fridays, the closures will take place from 11 p.m. until 8 a.m. Saturday.

Note that the north tube closures will be suspended for Labor Day weekend and other upcoming holidays.

Robert F. Kennedy Bridge Harlem River Lift Span Closed

The RFK Bridge Harlem River Lift Span will be closed to all traffic Fri. August 21 between 12:01 a.m. and 5 a.m. while a biennial inspection is conducted. Motorists must use an alternate route.

The work requires a full five-hour closure since the span must remain in the lifted position during the inspection.
