WEEKEND THROGS NECK BRIDGE WORK CANCELLED

Weekend construction work to begin replacing 67,000-square-feet of binder and asphalt overlay on the Queens-bound Throgs Neck Bridge is canceled due to unsuitable weather forecasts.

The work, which is scheduled to be done over a total of six weekends, will be rescheduled.

Northbound Henry Hudson Parkway lanes closed Sunday, July 14 for Aquaphor NYC Triathlon 2013

All northbound lanes of the Henry Hudson Parkway leading to the Bronx-bound Henry Hudson Bridge will be closed Sunday, July 14 between 4 AM and Noon for the biking portion of the annual Aquaphor NYC Triathlon.  Motorists are advised to expect delays and use an alternate route during this period.

The bicycle portion of the event travels up the Henry Hudson Parkway from 79th Street, crosses the bridge, exits at Moshulu Parkway, makes a U–turn at West Gun Hill Road and returns southbound along the same route.

Throgs Neck Bridge Work Will Result in Weekend Lane Closures Queens-Bound For Six Weekends Beginning July 12

Several Queens-bound lanes at the Throgs Neck Bridge will be closed over a total of six weekends in order to replace 67,000-square-feet of binder and asphalt overlay that has become uneven and must be replaced.

“After reviewing all of the options, the least impact to the customer is to do the work on weekends and overnight when traffic is lighter,” said Throgs Neck Facility Engineer Edmond Knightly, “and when the work is finished motorists will be rewarded with a smoother, more-even riding surface.”

The nearly $32 million rehabilitation project to replace the original 1930’s-era steel curb stringers on the Bronx-bound upper level of the Henry Hudson Bridge is moving to the next phase of work in the center lane starting week.

Intermittent Closures At Robert F. Kennedy Bridge’s Harlem Lift Span Friday June 21

There will be intermittent, full closures at the Robert F. Kennedy Bridge’s Harlem River lift span on Fri., June 21 between 12:01 a.m. and 5 a.m. for scheduled maintenance.

The closures will last approximately 15-20 minutes. Motorists may experience delays and should use an alternate route.

Six Peregrine Falcon Chicks Hatch High Atop Two MTA Bridges

TwoSix peregrine falcon chicks, hatched last month high atop two MTA bridges, were recently banded as part of the state nesting program. Three chicks were born at Marine Parkway-Gil Hodges Memorial Bridge and three at Throgs Neck Bridge.

Year-Long Lane Closure At Bronx-Whitestone Bridge’s Queens Approach Begins June 1st

The next phase of work in the $109 million Bronx-Whitestone Bridge’s Queens approach project is scheduled to begin, requiring an around-the-clock closure of one approach roadway lane for approximately a year.

 

The new traffic pattern is scheduled to go into effect on Saturday, June 1 and will be in place for the first weekday morning rush on Mon., June 3.
