Overnight Closures at Robert F. Kennedy Bridge’s Harlem Lift Span and the Marine Parkway-Gil Hodges Memorial Bridge Pedestrian Walkway

Scheduled maintenance work will result in overnight closures at the Robert F. Kennedy Bridge’s Harlem River Lift Span and the pedestrian walkway at Marine Parkway-Gil Hodges Memorial Bridge.

 

Work at the RFK Harlem River Lift Span will take place Friday, May 17 between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m. The work will result in intermittent, full closures of the bridge in both directions for up to 15 minutes at a time. Motorists should expect delays and use an alternate route.

Overnight Lane Closures Approaching Brooklyn-bound Verrazano-Narrows Toll Plaza Nightly May 9-11 and May 13-16

Several lanes leading into the Brooklyn-bound (eastbound) Verrazano-Narrows Bridge toll plaza will be closed overnight May 9-11 and May 13-16 while new drainage systems and electrical conduits are installed. There will be no lane closures on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 12.

 

The work will take place in the area from Fingerboard Road Bridge to the Brooklyn-bound toll plaza. The schedule is as follows:

Hugh L. Carey Tunnel Will Have One Tube Closed Overnight For Next Three Weeks

One tube at the Hugh L. Carey Tunnel will be closed overnight for the next three weeks beginning Monday May 6 for continuing repair work from Superstorm Sandy.

 

Motorists should allow extra time when traveling into or out of Manhattan.

 

One tube will be closed nightly from 9 p.m. through 5 a.m. Monday night through Friday morning from May 5th through the morning of May 24th.  

 

The remaining tube will have one lane operating in either direction.

Verrazano-Narrows Bridge’s Staten Island-bound Lower Level Will Close For Five Boro Bike Tour

The Staten Island-bound lower level of the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge will be closed from 12:01 a.m. until 6 p.m. Sunday, May 5 for the annual TD Bank Five Boro Bike Tour. The upper level of the bridge will remain open in both directions throughout the event.

 

Motorists should expect delays and allow extra travel time. To hear information about all the Verrazano bike tour closures, call 212 360-3000.

One Tube Closed This Weekend At Both Hugh L. Carey And Queens Midtown Tunnels

One tube at both the Queens Midtown Tunnel and Hugh L. Carey Tunnel will be closed this weekend for the continuation of post-Sandy repairs and other construction work. Motorists are cautioned to expect delays and allow extra time when traveling into or out of Manhattan.

One Tube At Queens Midtown Tunnel This Weekend

The Queens bound (south) tube at the Queens Midtown Tunnel will be closed to traffic from 2 a.m. Saturday through 5 a.m. Monday April 13 through April 15 for repairs related to Superstorm Sandy.

 

Two-way traffic will be in effect in the remaining tube for cars and NYCT buses. Commercial traffic must use an alternate route while two-way traffic is in effect.

 

Motorists should expect delays and are advised to use an alternate route.

Work Resumes On Throgs Neck Bridge Paint Project

Work has resumed on the $47 million Throgs Neck Bridge project designed to clean and repair the steel at the Bronx approach and remove the last original lead paint on the 52-year-old span.

 

The project, which includes cleaning, repairing and repainting 2.5 million square feet of steel, began last June and is expected to be completed in 2014.  A total of about 45,000 gallons of special bridge paint will be used to protect the span’s steel against corrosive salty, seawater.

Center Lane Closed Around-the-Clock At RFK Bridge Bronx Toll Plaza Towards Queens for Next Several Weeks

The center lane approaching the Robert F. Kennedy Bridge’s Bronx toll plaza heading to Queens will be closed around-the-clock for the next several weeks for construction.

 

Drivers are urged to use both the right and left lanes to circumvent the center lane closure. Motorists should expect delays and allow extra time.

$50 Million Design-Build Project Underway At Robert F. Kennedy Bridge’s Manhattan/Queens Ramp

A $50 million design/build project to reconstruct the Manhattan/Queens ramp at the Robert F. Kennedy Bridge is underway with a new traffic pattern that shifts motorists to the left as they enter the ramp and then merges ramp traffic with mainline traffic just south of the Bronx toll plaza.
