Buses to Replace LIRR Trains Between Patchogue and Montauk on Saturday, March 4, for Railroad Crossing Renewal

To ensure continued safety, Long Island Rail Road workers will renew the railroad crossing at William Floyd Parkway (Suffolk County Route 46), between 10 p.m. Friday, March 3, and 5 a.m. Sunday, March 5. The work will include a rehabilitation of the concrete railroad crossing surface, as well as the tracks, including the steel rails and adjacent concrete ties, and the compacted stone bedding the ties rest in, which is known as ballast.

LIRR Announces Service Plan for Morning Rush Hour of Friday, February 10

MTA Long Island Rail Road will continue to operate reduced service for the AM peak rush-hour on Friday, running 135 morning rush hour trains - nine less than normal - as it continues to recover from the storm and so inspections, delayed by snowfall, can continue following Wednesday's non-passenger train derailment of one train car.

Departing trains will leave generally within 10 minutes of the canceled trains and will be making additional stops.

LIRR Provides Weather-Related Service Update

The Long Island Rail Road today announced that because of the ongoing winter storm, the railroad is adding four additional trains departing Penn Station between 1:49 p.m. and 3:40 p.m., and will run 111 trains out of New York City between 3:27 p.m. and 6:33 p.m.

Overall, ridership on Thursday was light. The LIRR’s morning ridership was approximately 40% below a normal weekday.

LIRR Announces Service Plan for AM Rush Hour of Thursday, February 9

MTA Long Island Rail Road tonight announced that crews continuing to work around-the-clock at Jamaica Station following a derailment of one train car at 4 a.m. on Wednesday, February 8, have cleared the disabled 10-car train from the station. However, two tracks will remain out of service as inspections continue and a major storm approaches.

As a result, the LIRR will cancel nine of the total 144 morning rush hour trains on Thursday, February 9.

LIRR to Cancel Eight PM Rush Hour Trains

Long Island Rail Road employees are working throughout the day to re-rail a train car that derailed this morning at Jamaica Station. As a result of reduced track capacity at Jamaica, 8 of the 131 PM peak-hour LIRR trains are being canceled. Trains that depart within 10 minutes of the canceled trains will have added stops to help accommodate affected customers.

Customers who normally change trains at Jamaica are advised to listen for announcements and expect that transfers could take place on tracks that are different from normal.

Buses Will Replace Eight Overnight LIRR Trains Between Great Neck & Port Washington on Saturday, January 28, to Allow PSE&G to Finish Repairs to Damaged Utility Pole

Buses will replace trains on the Port Washington Branch between Great Neck and Port Washington Station tomorrow, Saturday, January 28 from 12:54 a.m. until 6:45 a.m. to allow PSE&G to complete repairs on a utility pole near Plandome Station that was damaged by high winds earlier this week.

Four westbound trains and four eastbound trains will be affected as follows:

LIRR Service Advisory for PM Rush Hour of Wednesday, January 11, 2017

MTA Long Island Rail Road is advising customers to expect train cancelations and delays during today’s afternoon rush hour while Amtrak crews work to repair a broken rail found outside one of Amtrak’s East River Tunnels. Personnel are on the site of the broken rail but do not expect to have repairs completed by the start of the afternoon rush hour.
