LIRR Completes Nostrand Avenue Station Modernization

MTA Long Island Rail Road President Phillip Eng today joined Brooklyn elected officials, advocates and community members to open the newly rebuilt Nostrand Avenue station. The two-track elevated station features two new ADA-accessible elevators, platform canopies, new tactile warning strips on both platforms, and a new art glass installation created by a local artist. Construction on the project began in 2017 and cost $28.1 million.

LIRR Crews to Install New Switches and Perform Modernization Work Jan. 25-26

The Long Island Rail Road will continue work this weekend to upgrade switches at Jamaica as well as perform work related to Positive Train Control testing. PTC is a system designed to enhance railroad safety by preventing train-to-train collisions, over speed derailments, incursions into established work zones and the movement of a train through a switch left in the wrong position. As a result, there will be no train service between Jamaica and Atlantic Terminal, Saturday, Jan. 25, to Sunday, Jan. 26.

LIRR On-Time Performance Rises to Three Year High in 2019; Cancellations, Major Delays, Short Trains Improve by Double Digits

MTA Long Island Rail Road President Phil Eng today announced that the LIRR’s on-time performance increased 2 percentage points in 2019, rising to 92.4%, the best performance in three years. The LIRR recorded 44% fewer train cancellations and terminations, 29% fewer trains delayed more than 15 minutes, and 25% fewer trains operating short. Trains traveled 4.3% more miles before experiencing any type of mechanical malfunction.

Nursing on-the-go moms at LIRR's Atlantic Terminal have another option for breastfeeding as LIRR has unveiled a lactation suite. The pod, manufactured by Mamava, is the second for the Long Island Rail Road.

MTA Rounds Out a Successful Year of LIRR Construction Projects and Expansion Milestones

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) ended 2019 having completed almost two dozen Long Island Rail Road construction projects – a massive increase in the pace of work to transform and modernize the railroad. The LIRR Modernization Program, a comprehensive program of 100 projects to rebuild the LIRR and foster economic growth, made great strides this past year with 14 station enhancements, five major bridge replacements and two grade crossing eliminations.

LIRR to Perform Overnight Track Work on Port Washington Branch

MTA Long Island Rail Road forces will be working Tuesday night, Dec. 3, through early Wednesday morning, Dec. 4, to make rail repairs to ensure the continued safety and reliability of the LIRR system. As a result, buses will substitute for trains between Great Neck and Port Washington between 9:50 p.m. and 3:30 a.m.
