MTA LIRR Releases Draft Environmental Assessment of Mid-Suffolk Yard-Ronkonkoma Yard Expansion Project

MTA Long Island Rail Road today made public a study that assesses the potential environmental impact of its proposed Mid-Suffolk Yard / Ronkonkoma Yard Expansion Project, which would enlarge the LIRR’s existing Ronkonkoma electric train yard just east of Ronkonkoma Station on land already owned by the MTA.

The document explains the site-selection process undertaken by the LIRR and offers the Railroad’s evaluation of the potential environmental impacts of the project.

Buses Replace Trains between Farmingdale and Ronkonkoma on Sat., Aug. 1 from 12:45 a.m. until 5:30 a.m. and Between Deer Park and Ronkonkoma on Sun., Aug. 2 from 12:45 a.m. Until 8:30 a.m.

Buses will replace train service for track work between Farmingdale and Ronkonkoma this Saturday, August 1 from 12:45 a.m. until 5:30 a.m. and between Deer Park and Ronkonkoma on Sunday, August 2 from 12:45 a.m. until 8:30 a.m. During these overnight hours, the LIRR will be carrying out a rail grinding project to restore the profile and remove irregularities from worn rail to extend its life and improve the ride of trains along that stretch of track. Ronkonkoma Branch customers traveling during overnight hours this weekend should know the following:

LIRR’s Massapequa Station Is Fully Reopened to the Public After $20.5 Million Upgrade Paid for by MTA Capital Plan

MTA Long Island Rail Road President Patrick A. Nowakowski presided this morning at a ribbon cutting ceremony officially reopening Massapequa Station following a $20.5 million rehabilitation project that transformed an aging structure into modern transportation facility.

Nowakowski was joined at the event by local elected officials, community leaders and commuters who have watched patiently over the last two years as the Railroad labored to rebuild the station while continuing to provide normal daily and weekend train service.

Buses Replace Trains between Ronkonkoma & Brentwood on Sat., July 25 & Sun., July 26 for Grade Crossing Project

Buses will replace train service between Brentwood and Ronkonkoma this coming weekend as the Long Island Rail Road installs a new rail crossing at Carleton Avenue in Central Islip. The changeover to bus service begins after the last train arrives in Ronkonkoma at 12:37 a.m. on Saturday, July 25 and continues until 1:15 p.m. on Sunday, July 26, when normal train service resumes. Customers should allow extra travel time westbound and eastbound.

LIRR Adding 16 Extra Trains This Friday to Help Soccer Fans See Lower Manhattan Ticker Tape Parade

If you’re heading to tomorrow’s historic ticker tape parade for the world champion U.S. women’s soccer team, skip the traffic and parking headaches. Ride with your fellow soccer fans on the Long Island Rail Road, which is running six extra trains to Penn Station tomorrow timed to get you to the start of the parade, and 10 extra trains to get you home.
