Buses Replace Trains Between Ronkonkoma & Central Islip for Track Work This Coming Saturday, Oct. 1, and Sunday, Oct. 2

Buses will replace trains on the Long Island Rail Road’s Ronkonkoma Branch between Ronkonkoma and Central Islip stations beginning at 12:37 a.m. on Saturday, October 1, and continuing until 12:32 a.m. Monday, October 3, for scheduled track construction. Service to Greenport will be affected as well with adjusted train times in addition to the busing between Central Islip and Ronkonkoma.

MTA Long Island Rail Road Seeks $1.33 Million to Repave the Parking Lots at Little Neck, Cedarhurst and Gibson Stations

The Long Island Committee of the MTA Board today recommended the approval of a plan to repave Long Island Rail Road-owned parking lots parking lots at Little Neck station in Queens and Cedarhurst station and Gibson station in Nassau County at a cost of $1.33 million.

The proposal goes to the full MTA Board for a vote on Wednesday.

Governor Cuomo Announces Major Investments to Improve Central Hubs of Long Island Rail Road

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced major capital investments to improve two key stations on the Long Island Rail Road’s 40-mile spine between Jamaica and Ronkonkoma. Work has begun on a $121 million initiative to rebuild, reimagine and modernize the Hicksville station, the busiest station on Long Island. In addition, the LIRR has awarded a $64.9 million contract to create a new platform and tracks at the Jamaica station, the LIRR’s central hub and main transfer point. LIRR Announces Revised Ronkonkoma Branch Schedules for This Weekend to Accommodate Track Work

Continuing track work on the Long Island Rail Road between Ronkonkoma and Farmingdale as well as ongoing switch replacement work at Bethpage Interlocking will have a significant impact on the Ronkonkoma Branch over the weekend of Saturday, September 24, and Sunday, September 25. The work will also impact some Babylon, Montauk, Far Rockaway, West Hempstead and Greenport trains.

Demolition to Begin on Long Island Rail Road’s Little Neck Station Pedestrian Overpass

Demolition of the MTA Long Island Rail Road’s Little Neck Station pedestrian overpass, along the Port Washington Branch, will take place this weekend, starting 6 p.m. Friday night, September 16, and continuing through 12 noon on Saturday, September 17.

The 54-foot steel truss overpass bridge, which links the eastbound and westbound platforms, was installed back in 1989 and is being replaced. Installation of a new prefabricated pedestrian bridge is tentatively scheduled for late October.

Weekend Work Impacts Long Island Rail Road Ronkonkoma and Babylon Branches

MTA Long Island Rail Road customers traveling on the Ronkonkoma, Babylon, Montauk, Far Rockaway and West Hempstead branches over the weekend of Saturday, September 17, and Sunday, September 18, are advised to plan ahead and should allow extra travel time as the LIRR replaces switches in Bethpage that are used to switch trains from one track to another. Starting at 11:45 p.m. on Friday, September 16, one of two tracks between Hicksville and Farmingdale will be taken out of service to accommodate the weekend work.

Demolition to Begin on Long Island Rail Road’s South Bayles Avenue Pedestrian Overpass at Port Washington

Demolition of the MTA Long Island Rail Road’s now-closed South Bayles Avenue pedestrian overpass at the LIRR Port Washington Station, will take place this weekend, starting Friday night, September 9 and continuing throughout the day on Saturday, September 10. On June 29, LIRR closed a portion of the overpass on South Bayles Avenue after a scheduled inspection deemed a section of the bridge, which was built in 1959, to be unsafe.
