LIRR Service Advisory for PM Rush Hour of Wednesday, January 11, 2017

MTA Long Island Rail Road is advising customers to expect train cancelations and delays during today’s afternoon rush hour while Amtrak crews work to repair a broken rail found outside one of Amtrak’s East River Tunnels. Personnel are on the site of the broken rail but do not expect to have repairs completed by the start of the afternoon rush hour.

LIRR Scheduling More Trains for New Year’s Weekend Starting With 13 Extra Eastbound Afternoon Departures for Early Friday Getaway

MTA Long Island Rail Road is ready to usher in the New Year with extra train service for the extended holiday weekend, beginning with additional eastbound trains to accommodate customers leaving work early on Friday, December 30. Then the railroad will run additional westbound trains on Saturday, New Year’s Eve, for revelers heading to the city to celebrate, and extra service early New Year’s Day to get the party goers safely back home Sunday morning.

LIRR Adding 13 Extra Afternoon Eastbound Trains from Penn Station On Friday, December 23, for Holiday Weekend Getaway
MTA Long Island Rail Road is adding 13 trains to its regular eastbound afternoon schedule from Penn Station on Friday, December 23, to accommodate the large number of customers leaving work early to get a head start on their holiday weekend. The additional service from Penn Station will be provided between 12:43 p.m. and 3:41 p.m. on the Ronkonkoma, Babylon, Port Jefferson, Port Washington and Far Rockaway branches. The added trains are as follow:

Newly Enhanced Crossing Opening for Pedestrians at Islip Station

MTA Long Island Rail Road today announced that pedestrians at Islip station will have a newly enhanced crossing adorned with numerous safety and visual upgrades tomorrow, ahead of a state deadline for the project.

“This new and improved crossing at Islip Station will feature pedestrian signals and new walkways, lighting and fencing to provide our customers with a safe and well-lit way to get to their platforms,” said Patrick Nowakowski, President of the Long Island Rail Road.

Governor Cuomo Announces Milestone Reached in LIRR's Main Line Expansion Project

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced the MTA has reached a major milestone to improve transit service, safety and quality of life for hundreds of thousands of Long Island commuters and residents. The LIRR Expansion Project released a Draft Environmental Impact Statement which will take the project another step toward construction. The scientific, engineering and socioeconomic study is required to identify any potential impacts of public construction projects and help ensure that they are done safely, responsibly, and with public input.

Installation of Pedestrian Bridge at LIRR’s Little Neck Station Starts 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 4, Through the Weekend of Dec. 3-4

MTA Long Island Rail Road plans to install a new pedestrian overpass at Little Neck Station in Queens with work scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. on Friday, December 2, and through the weekend with the new bridge ready for Monday’s morning rush. The project is not expected to impact train service.

LIRR Will Offer Extra Weekend Service for Holiday Shopping, Dining and Entertainment

If your plans for the holiday season includes a trip to New York City for shopping, dining, sightseeing or the theater, then MTA Long Island Rail Road has just made the trip a little easier. Beginning this Saturday and Sunday, November 26-27, and continuing through New Year’s Day, January 1, the LIRR is adding four extra westbound trains and six extra eastbound trains to its regular weekend service. The trains are being added on the Long Beach, Babylon and Huntington/Port Jefferson branches.

  • The extra trains start rolling on Thanksgiving Eve, Wednesday, November 23, with a dozen extra get afternoon eastbound trains to handle the rush of customers fleeing out the workplace early for the holiday weekend.
