Governor Cuomo Announces Labor Agreement Between Metropolitan Transportation Authority and Long Island Rail Road Unions

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo, Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) Chairman and CEO Thomas F. Prendergast, and United Transportation Union President Anthony Simon, representing a coalition of eight Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) labor unions, today announced an agreement to settle a four-year-old contract dispute between the MTA and the unions.

LIRR Adding Extra Afternoon Eastbound Service on Thursday, July 3 for Customers Getting Jump on Holiday
The MTA Long Island Rail Road will provide additional early-afternoon service from Penn Station, Thursday, July 3, adding eight eastbound trains to the schedule for customers planning an early getaway for the start of the Independence Day holiday.  
The extra early-afternoon trains will depart Penn Station starting at 2:08 p.m and includes three extra trains on the Babylon Branch, three on the Port Jefferson Branch, one extra train on the Port Washington Branch and one extra train on the Far Rockaway Branch.

Port Washington Pedestrian Bridge Extension To Be Installed This Summer
A temporary extension to an existing pedestrian bridge will be installed this summer on the Haven Avenue side of the Port Washington station to restore platform access for customers under a solution proposed by the LIRR and agreed to by Town of North Hempstead Supervisor Judi Bosworth.

Rehabilitation Resumes on LIRR’s Westbound Platform at Great Neck
The Long Island Rail Road today announced that work to rehabilitate the westbound platform at the LIRR’s Great Neck Station will resume on Monday, June 30. To accommodate the work, the main staircase, leading from Barstow Road, and the platform’s elevator, will be closed through early October.
Work is scheduled to take place during daytime hours without any planned outages to train service.

LIRR Resumes Service to Montauk After Repairing East Hampton Bridge

MTA Long Island Rail Road resumed train service on the Montauk Branch east of Bridgehampton out to Montauk after repairing the North Main Street Bridge in East Hampton which was badly damaged Tuesday morning when it was struck by a private sanitation truck whose driver had disobeyed posted clearance limits.

LIRR crews worked for more than 24 hours straight to repair the damage and the 4:30 p.m. train from Hunterspoint Ave., due in Montauk at 7:34 p.m., was the first eastbound train to operate over the structure.
