Long Island Rail Road Expects a Normal Commute for Wednesday AM PEAK

MTA Long Island Rail Road is expecting a normal AM Peak commute on Wednesday after Amtrak completed repairs on a broken signal that took three tracks out of service and caused train cancellations and delays during the Tuesday evening rush hour.

The signal failure shut down three tracks at Penn Station that the LIRR normally uses to stage and run eastbound service during the PM Peak. That left the Railroad with access to just six tracks and forced the cancelations of 21 trains while 38 operated with delays. Westbound service into Penn was suspended for a time.

LIRR Customers Should Anticipate Delays & Cancellations During PM Rush Due to Signal Trouble at Penn Station

MTA Long Island Rail Road customers should anticipate delays and cancellations during this evening's PM rush due to signal trouble at Penn Station. Train cancellations are being announced at Penn and customers may also go to www.mta.info/lirr for details of what trains are scheduled to be canceled.

The signal problem, which is preventing the LIRR from using three tracks for eastbound service, is under repair by Amtrak, which is responsible for maintenance at Penn Station and the East River Tunnels.
