LIRR Opens Rebuilt Flushing-Main Street Station

MTA Long Island Rail Road President Phil Eng today joined Queens elected officials, advocates and community members to open the newly rebuilt and reconfigured Flushing-Main Street station. The new station features two new elevators, one each to the eastbound and westbound platforms, a new street-level ticket office, and a prominent new set of entranceways connecting the platforms directly to the community hub of Flushing at Main Street. Construction on the project began in 2016 and cost $24.6 million.

LIRR to Perform Routine Rail Safety Tests on Port Washington Branch This Weekend

Long Island Rail Road crews this weekend, October 20 and 21, 2018, will perform routine rail safety testing on the Port Washington Branch in the railroad’s ongoing efforts to ensure continued safety and service reliability.

The rail safety tests are performed by the Sperry Rail Car, a self-propelled train car fitted with ultrasonic and induction test equipment and is designed to detect internal defects inside the running rails that are not readily visible to the eye. Defects that are found will be corrected immediately by LIRR track maintenance workers.

LIRR to Perform Positive Train Control and Sperry Rail Testing on Montauk Branch

The Long Island Rail Road will perform Positive Train Control testing and routine rail safety tests on the Montauk Branch during off-peak hours beginning Monday, October 15 through Friday, October 19, and again on Monday, October 29, and Friday, November 2.

Ride the LIRR to Feast at the 35th Annual Oyster Festival in Oyster Bay Village

The 35th Annual Oyster Festival at Theodore Roosevelt Park in Oyster Bay Village is expected to attract more than 200,000 people on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 13-14, for the East Coast’s largest waterfront fete. Revelers can avoid traffic and parking lines by taking one of the many trains the LIRR will be running to Oyster Bay Station this weekend – dropping festivalgoers off in the middle of the fairgrounds – including three extra eastbound and westbound trains to get there and back for the family-friendly event running from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday.

LIRR to Enhance Safety, Reliability on Port Jefferson Branch with Concrete Tie Replacement

MTA Long Island Rail Road track crews over the next three weekends will perform concrete tie replacement on the Port Jefferson Branch, ensuring its continuing safety and reliability.

This proactive infrastructure work will take place all weekend on October 13-14 and 27-28, 2018, as well as Saturday evening, October 20 and all day Sunday, October 21. The work is being done on weekend hours to minimize service changes during busy weekday service periods.

LIRR Successfully Replaces 129-Year-Old Buckram Road Bridge in Locust Valley

Long Island Rail Road crews on Tuesday morning put the finishing touches on the Buckram Road Bridge replacement in Locust Valley, marking another successful infrastructure initiative toward the modernization of the rail system.

The work on this bridge, which carries the railroad’s Oyster Bay Branch over Buckram Road/Oyster Bay Road between the Locust Valley and Oyster Bay stations, began on Friday night, October 5, and finished in the morning hours on Tuesday, October 9, 2018. It included the removal of the old bridge and installation of the new bridge, which was built off site.

Long Island Rail Road President Phillip Eng today announced the launch of 'My LIRR Loyalty,' a new, year-round program designed to offer added value for LIRR’s monthly ticket holders.

The LIRR has teamed up with 70 merchants so far -- including popular restaurants, hotels, fitness centers, along with visits to various sporting events, museums, shows and entertainment hot spots -- that are offering special discounts to LIRR customers who have a current monthly ticket.

LIRR to Replace 129-Year-Old Buckram Road Bridge in Locust Valley

Long Island Rail Road crews will be hard at work on Friday night, October 5, through Tuesday morning, October 9, to replace the Buckram Road Bridge in Locust Valley, which carries the railroad’s Oyster Bay Branch over Buckram Road/Oyster Bay Road between the Locust Valley and Oyster Bay stations. The project will improve train service by raising the bridge clearance by nearly four feet to reduce the number of over-height trucks that strike the bridge, and enhance public safety by improving roadway sight-lines.
