Take MTA LIRR to the “Maker Faire” at Queens Hall of Science on Saturday, September 20 & Sunday, September 21

On Saturday and Sunday, September 20 and 21, Port Washington Branch trains willmake stops at Mets-Willets Point Station from 8:30 Am until 8:30 PM for customers attending the World Maker Faire at the Queens Hall of Science.

Billed as the “Greatest Show (and Tell) on Earth, the Maker Faire is a family friendly festival of invention, creativity and resourcefulness as well as a celebration of the Maker movement.

LIRR Providing Extra Service to Forest Hills for Concerts by “The Replacements” on Sept. 19 and “Phil Lesh & Friends” on Sept. 21

MTA Long Island Rail Road will be providing extra train service to Forest Hills Station in Queens for two upcoming concerts, one by the pioneering alternative rock band The Replacements tomorrow, Friday, September 19 and a concert by Grateful Dead alum Phil Lesh (and Friends) on Sunday, September 21.

The LIRR’s Forest Hills Station is located on the LIRR's Main Line --  just a short distance from Forest Hills Stadium.

MTA LIRR Schedules Public Hearing on Proposed Restoration of Weekend/Holiday Service on the LIRR’s West Hempstead Branch
MTA Long Island Rail Road will hold a public hearing on a plan to restore weekend and holiday service on the West Hempstead Branch year-round on Monday, September 15 at Malverne Village Hall located at 99 Church Street in Malverne, N.Y. The public hearing will begin at 5 PM.

Buses Replace Trains for Track Work between Ronkonkoma & Greenport Weekdays Midday from Tuesday, September 2 through Friday, November 14

Buses will replace weekday trains between Greenport and Ronkonkoma during off-peak, midday hours beginning next Tuesday, September 2 and continuing through Friday, November 14 to allow the LIRR to renew grade crossings and replace track ties along the route.

Railroad crews will be replacing wood ties from Ronkonkoma to Riverhead and renewing grade crossings at Yaphank-Moriches Road and Bellport Avenue, both in Yaphank, Love Lane in Mattituck and Mill Road crossing in Riverhead. This work is part of a $50 million federally funded Annual State of Good Repair Track Program.

Long Island Rail Road Adding 8 Early Afternoon Eastbound Trains on Friday, August 29 to Speed Your Getaway for the Labor Day Weekend
MTA Long Island Rail Road will provide eight additional early-afternoon trains from Penn Station on Friday, August 29, for customers planning to get away early to start the Labor Day Weekend. There will be three extra Babylon trains, three extra Port Jefferson Branch trains, one extra train on the Port Washington Branch and one extra train to Far Rockaway.

Vans Replace Train Service between Oyster Bay & Mineola on Saturday, August 23 for Annual Oyster Bay Triathlon
The Long Island Rail Road will substitute passenger van service for trains between Locust Valley Station and Oyster Bay Station this Saturday morning, August 23, from 7 AM to 11 AM to accommodate the annual Oyster Bay Triathlon.
The event will affect one eastbound train, the 8:25 AM from Penn Station which will terminate at Locust Valley where customers will board a van to complete their journey to Oyster Bay.

Next Phase of Massapequa Station Improvement Project Scheduled to Start on Monday, August 25
MTA Long Island Rail Road’s $40-million improvement project at Massapequa Station enters its next phase on Monday, August 25 with work shifting to the station’s east end.
Meanwhile, customers will be able to use the newly constructed west end platform and waiting room and glimpse artwork of artist Peter Drake, a native Long Islander, for the first time.  In addition, a new station elevator is scheduled to go into service shortly after Labor Day.
