Delays of 15-25 Minutes Expected on Ronkonkoma Branch Again Tonight as Efforts Continue to Repair Infrastructure Damaged by New York & Atlantic Freight Car Derailment

The Long Island Rail Road’s Ronkonkoma Branch customers should anticipate 15-25 minute delays east of Hicksville during Tuesday evening’s rush hour due to extensive infrastructure damage caused by the derailment of a freight car west of Wyandanch Station. LIRR trains will continue operating at a reduced speed between Farmingdale and Wyandanch.

LIRR Adding 3 Trains to Montauk Schedule for Village’s Annual St. Patrick’s Parade on Sunday, March 22

The annual St. Patrick's Parade in Montauk, L.I. is one of the region's most popular. And once again, MTA Long Island Rail Road will be running extra trains to the oceanfront village on parade day, Sunday, March 22. Festivities start at 10 AM with the parade set to kick off down Main Street at 11:30 a.m.

Weekend Service Alert

Train service on the Port Jefferson Branch between Huntington and Jamaica will be reduced from half-hourly to hourly on Saturday, March 21 and Sunday, March 22 when one track is taken out of service for the installation of new concrete railroad ties. The project will also result in some adjusted travel times for Ronkonkoma and Montauk Branch strains as they travel the Main Line between Hicksville and Jamaica.

Ronkonkoma Branch Update

Buses will replace train service on the Ronkonkoma Branch between Farmingdale and Ronkonkoma Stations on Saturday, March 14, from 1 a.m. to 7 a.m. to allow track workers to replace a broken rail.

Westbound

Customers at stations Ronkonkoma, Central Islip, Brentwood, Deer Park, and Wyandanch will board a bus bound for Hicksville and connecting train service to all points west. Please anticipate up to 41 minutes of additional travel time.

MTA LIRR Schedules Extra Train Service on St. Patrick's Day, Tuesday, March 17

MTA Long Island Rail Road has scheduled 16 extra trains – six westbound morning trains and 10 eastbound afternoon trains to accommodate thousands of LIRR customers who will be traveling to and from the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Manhattan on Monday, March 17.

The additional trains will supplement the LIRR’s regular weekday schedule.

Ronkonkoma Branch Service Update

Customers Are Advised to Plan Ahead and Allow Extra Time for Travel

Buses will replace train service between Ronkonkoma and Farmingdale from 12:45 a.m. Sunday, March 8, until 1:30 a.m. on Monday, March 9, to accommodate a switch replacement project, track maintenance work and Sperry Rail testing.

MTA Long Island Rail Road Earns TSA’s Gold Standard Award, the Federal Agency’s Highest Security Rating

The federal Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has announced that MTA Long Island Rail Road is a winner of its Gold Standard Award for 2014, the agency’s highest security rating and one granted to only five transit agencies after a nationwide competition.

The LIRR was previously awarded this distinction back in 2010. The ratings are part of TSA's 2014 Baseline Assessments for Security Enhancement program, which involves a voluntary review of various security measures, ranging from security plans and training to public outreach efforts and background check programs.

New LIRR Train Schedules Start Monday, March 2

New Long Island Rail Road timetables will go into effect on Monday, March 2 and to meet the demand for early release westbound service from Penn Station on the eve of major holidays, the LIRR is adding a train to its Ronkonkoma Branch schedule to make the early getaway even easier.
