Design-Build Plan for New $39.2 Million LIRR Bridge at Ellison Ave. in Westbury, L.I. Going to the MTA Board
A $39.2 million plan to construct a new bridge over the Long Island Rail Road tracks at Ellison Avenue in Westbury, L.I. was submitted for approval to the MTA Board today, a project that would replace a deteriorating span for that has been used cars, trucks and pedestrians for 73 years.

Buses Substitute for Mid-Day LIRR Trains Between Port Jefferson and Huntington on April 22 & 23

The Long Island Rail Road will perform mid-day track inspections between Huntington and Port Jefferson on Tuesday, April 22, and Wednesday, April 23. Crews will use an advanced Sperry rail car that can detect metal fatigue and faults beneath the surface of the steel rails. Defects that are found will be corrected immediately by a crew of LIRR track maintenance workers. The Sperry Rail Car is used twice a year to inspect approximately 500 miles of LIRR track.

MTA & LIRR Announce Start of Major Restoration Project on the Railroad’s Long Beach Branch

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority and the Long Island Rail Road today announced the start of a $120 million construction program designed to protect the LIRR’s Long Beach Branch from the kind of devastating damage caused by Superstorm Sandy in 2012.

LIRR to Provide Additional Service for Start of Passover and Good Friday
The Long Island Rail Road will provide additional eastbound service on Monday, April 14, and Friday, April 18 for customers leaving work early in observance of Passover and Good Friday. The railroad will operate a regular weekday schedule with eight additional trains departing Penn Station between 2:08 p.m. and 3:48 p.m. There will be three additional trains on the Babylon Branch, three on the Port Jefferson Branch, one on the Port Washington Branch, and one on the Far Rockaway Branch.

LIRR Far Rockaway Branch Weekend Schedules Adjusted April 12-13 and May 3-4

On April 12-13, and on May 3-4, the Long Island Rail Road will perform waterproofing maintenance on a bridge that carries two tracks over 150th Street in Jamaica, Queens. As a result, Far Rockaway Branch train schedules are being adjusted by up to eight minutes.

Throughout both weekends, arrival and departure times at Atlantic Terminal, Brooklyn will not be affected. But arrival and departure times between Jamaica and Far Rockaway will be changed. Details are below.

MTA PD Reminds Customers to Watch for Scammers Who Target Long Island Rail Road’s Ticket Vending Machines

The MTA Police Department is again reminding Long Island Rail Road customers to be on guard when purchasing tickets at LIRR Ticket Vending Machines after the Railroad TVM maintainers turned up evidence that scammers were trying to steal credit and debit card information at Baldwin Station.

Buses Substitute for Mid-Day Montauk Branch Trains as LIRR Performs Track Inspections April 7-10

For four days next week, the Long Island Rail Road will perform mid-day track inspections on the Montauk Branch. Crews will use an advanced Sperry rail car that can detect metal fatigue and faults beneath the surface of the steel rails.

As crews perform the work, buses will substitute for select trains. Over the four days, 21 trains will be replaced in whole or in part by buses. Customers should plan to build in additional travel time as described below and in a special timetable.

This Weekend, Buses Replace Trains between Hempstead & Jamaica for Switch Resurfacing & Tie Installation Work

This coming weekend, bus service will replace trains on the Hempstead Branch between Hempstead and Jamaica beginning at 11:38 PM Friday, April 4 and running until 4 AM on Monday, April 7 so that the Long Island Rail Road can carry out important track maintenance work in the area of Bellerose Station, an key section of track that serves the Huntington/Port Jefferson, Ronkonkoma, Oyster Bay and Hempstead branches.
