MTA LIRR Offers Extra Trains for Start of Labor Day Weekend

The MTA Long Island Rail Road is offering eight additional eastbound trains from Penn Station Friday afternoon, August 31 between 2:09 PM and 3:48 PM for customers planning an early start to the Labor Day Weekend. The extra service will include: three trains on the Port Jefferson Branch; three on the Babylon Branch; one on the Port Washington Branch to Great Neck; and one on the Far Rockaway Branch as detailed below:

MTA LIRR Takes You to The "Pow Wow" Sept. 1 & 2

The MTA Long Island Rail Road is the way to go to the 61st Annual Shinnecock Pow Wow. The special non-escorted package takes participants to the Pow Wow for the Grand Procession, a photographer's dream featuring scores of Native Americans and representatives of Central or South American tribes dancing and chanting in gloriously colorful costumes. There are also continuous song and dance competitions through the day. The festival hours are from 10 AM to 10 PM, and the Grand Procession is at noon and 7 PM. Food and arts and crafts items are also available from 100 vendors.

MTA LIRR to Provide Extra Service To Us Open Tennis

The MTA Long Island Rail Road is the best road for tennis fans attending the U.S. Open Tennis Championships and the Arthur Ashe Kids Day at the Arthur Ashe Tennis Stadium at Flushing Meadows from August 25 through September 9. The train ride is just 16 minutes from Penn Station to the Stadium. For those traveling on the LIRR from Long Island, the tennis stadium is just six minutes from Woodside, 15 minutes from Great Neck and 25 minutes from Port Washington.

Weekend of August 25-26, LIRR Train Service Impacted by Roslyn Road Grade Crossing Work Train Service Suspended Between Mineola And Hicksville Buses Replace Some Trains; Other Trains Rerouted; Affects Port Jefferson, Ronkonkoma, Oyster Bay, Far Rockawa

Work associated with the New York State Department of Transportation Roslyn Road Grade Crossing Elimination Project will require that train service be temporarily suspended on the MTA Long Island Rail Road's Main Line between Mineola and Hicksville from 1:05 AM, Saturday, August 25 through 12:45 AM, Monday, August 27. Service changes will affect customers using the Port Jefferson and Ronkonkoma Branches with connecting service revisions for Oyster Bay, Far Rockaway and West Hempstead Branch customers.

MTA LIRR Hempstead Branch Train Service Affected By Queens Village Switch Replacement & Track Work This Weekend, August 18-19

The MTA Long Island Rail Road will replace a major switch along with track work in the Queens Village area this weekend, August 18-19, requiring Hempstead Branch customers to use buses instead of trains for at least part of their trips.

From 2 PM, Saturday, August 18 through 2 AM, Sunday, August 19, both eastbound and westbound Hempstead Branch customers at stations Hollis through Hempstead will take buses to complete their trips.

LIRR Now Accepts Credit and Debit Cards at Ticket Windows

The question "paper or plastic?" is now being heard at MTA Long Island Rail Road ticket windows. Starting today, Ticket Agents and Clerks at the LIRR's 51 staffed Ticket Offices began accepting credit and debit cards for ticket purchases.

LIRR PM Peak Contingency Plan: August 8, 2007

Eastbound NYC Transit customers from the Queens Boulevard subway lines are expected to use LIRR service and/or buses. The LIRR will cancel and combine some trains to produce capacity for dedicated shuttle train service stopping at Penn Station, Woodside, Forest Hills, Kew Gardens and Jamaica. While the shuttle service is in place, some trains to Long Island will not make local stops at Woodside, Forest Hills and Kew Gardens. Specific announcements will be made at Penn Station. Additional NYC Transit and LIRR personnel will be assigned to key locations to provide customer assistance.

The MTA Long Island Rail Road will sweep you off your feet with its special package ticket to the First Annual Metro New York Balloon & Music Festival. MTA LIRR Intends to Develop Application for Waiver From Federal Railroad Administration to Reduce Train Horn Noise

Modified Train Horn Tested at Cedarhurst In Move To Ease Noise Level For Community

The MTA Long Island Rail Road intends to develop an application for a waiver from the Federal Railroad Administration's minimum train horn decibel requirement. The move to seek the waiver was announced following a test of a modified electric train horn at the Cedarhurst Station today. While the test results demonstrated lower decibel levels, the LIRR recognizes that train horns are considered too loud in many suburban communities.
