MTA LIRR Submits Main Line Corridor - Third Track Project Preliminary Draft Environmental Impact Statement To Federal Transit Administration For Review

The MTA Long Island Rail Road's Main Line Corridor (MLC) project - which provides for a much-needed Third Track in a critical 10-mile stretch between Floral Park and Hicksville - has reached an important milestone as the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) submitted the Preliminary Draft Environmental Impact Statement (PDEIS) to the Federal Transit Administration for review.

MTA LIRR Holds Community Forum February 13 to Discuss Proposed Alternative Safety Measures at Syosset Station

The MTA Long Island Rail Road will be holding a community forum on Wednesday, February 13 to present alternative safety measures at Syosset Station. The meeting will be held at Syosset High School at 70 Southwoods Road. Doors will open at 6 PM and LIRR staff will be available at that time to discuss the alternative safety measures with members of the public. The community forum will be from 7 PM to 9 PM.

MTA LIRR To Provide Extra Service For Giants Super Bowl Victory Parade, February 5

The MTA Long Island Rail Road will be providing extra service to and from Penn Station for fans who plan to cheer on the Super Bowl Champion New York Giants at their Victory Parade on Tuesday, February 5 in Lower Manhattan. There will be 14 extra trains, six westbound between 9 AM and 9:55 AM and eight eastbound between 2:09 PM and 3:48 PM.

The Parade is scheduled to begin at 11 AM from Battery Place, up the Canyon of Heroes (Broadway) and conclude at City Hall with a 1 PM rally.

MTA LIRR Reaches Accord With Unions

Precedent-setting spirit of cooperation marks the signing of agreements

MTA Long Island Rail Road has reached agreements with 17 of its bargaining units represented by 10 different unions. The agreements - which cover the period January 1, 2007 through June 15, 2010 - were signed by all rank and file unions last month, marking a historic milestone and signaling an era of mutual respect between labor and management. The Board of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority approved the ten agreements today.

MTA LIRR On Regular Schedule With Off-Peak Fares In Effect For Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday, Monday, January 21

The MTA Long Island Rail Road will be operating on a regular weekday schedule Monday, January 21, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Off-peak fares will be in effect all day.

MTA LIRR To Provide Shuttle Service On Port Washington Branch Between Penn Station And Flushing-Main St. For MTA NYC Transit Customers Affected By 7 Line Work For Up To Five Weekends Starting January 12-13

The MTA Long Island Rail Road will be providing shuttle service between Penn Station and Flushing-Main Street Station on the Port Washington Branch for up to five consecutive weekends starting January 12-13 for MTA New York City Transit subway customers affected by the suspension of service on the 7 line between Main Street-Flushing Station and Woodside-61st Street Station. Regular Port Washington Branch weekend service will be in effect.

LIRR Improves On-Time Performance In 2007

The MTA Long Island Rail Road capped off 2007 with an On-Time Performance (OTP) of 94.07% - an almost 1 percentage point improvement over 2006. The prior year's OTP was 93.30%.

At 94.07%, 2007's OTP is the best since modern record keeping started in 1979.

The previous best OTP of 94.04% was achieved in 2002. The LIRR reached the 94.07% milestone in 2007 while operating almost 5% more trains (244,565) annually than in 2002 (233,301).

Alcoholic Beverages Prohibited On LIRR Trains, Platforms, and At Stations On New Year's Eve and Through Morning On New Year's Day

The MTA Long Island Rail Road will provide additional trains to and from Penn Station for the New Year's holiday. The extra service includes additional eastbound afternoon trains on Friday, December 28 and again on New Year's Eve, Monday, December 31; additional westbound trains into Penn Station on New Year's Eve and additional eastbound trains out of Penn Station on Tuesday, January 1.
