MTA LIRR Track Work to Affect Some Early Morning Babylon & Far Rockaway Branch Trains On Two Consecutive Saturdays - October 27 & November 3

Some early morning Saturday trains on the Babylon and Far Rockaway Branches will be affected by switch replacement work on October 27 and November 3. Five trains, two eastbound and three westbound, between 12:03 AM and 5:03 AM will be affected. Vans and alternate train service will be provided for customers who are impacted.

Eastbound

- The 1:36 AM train from Penn Station to Babylon will not stop at Valley Stream. Affected customers will board vans at Jamaica.

Service Message Boards Installed At Six Locations On Lirr Concourse

LIRR customers who travel to and from Penn Station will have a new communication tool at their disposal to help plan their commute - six large, flat screen message boards placed throughout the terminal that will display detailed, real time information about service disruptions, MTA Long Island Rail Road President Helena Williams announced.

MTA LIRR Announces "Be Trainsmart" School Safety Contest 2007

Part Of Gap Safety Effort; Seek Student Participation

The MTA Long Island Rail Road is stepping up its "Be TrainSmart" Program to now include a school safety contest. The easy-to-enter contest emphasizes that students "learn to cross the gap safely," by following proper adult guidance from teachers, adults, parents and LIRR employees. "I Can Step Over The Gap" round, square and star-shaped stickers will be given to students throughout the LIRR service area as part of the new contest that runs through December 31.

MTA LIRR "South Fork Commuter Connection" On Track For October 23 Debut

Response To Request For Assistance During Major Road Reconstruction

The MTA Long Island begins the "South Fork Commuter Connection" to and from the East End's South Fork on Tuesday, October 23. The six additional trains, three eastbound and three westbound, are intended to help ease the motor vehicle traffic crush expected during the reconstruction of County Road 39.

MTA LIRR Substitutes Bus Service for Overnight Trains on Ronkonkoma Branch, October 14 and During Off-Peak Hours, October 15 & October 16

The MTA Long Island Rail Road will provide bus service in place of trains on the Ronkonkoma Branch during overnight hours on Sunday, October 14, and during off peak hours on Monday, October 15 and Tuesday, October 16, in order to use the Sperry Rail Car to conduct special rail tests. On October 14, four eastbound and four westbound overnight trains will be affected between Farmingdale and Ronkonkoma. On October 15 and October 16, two eastbound and two westbound mid-day trains will be affected between Ronkonkoma and Greenport. Customers will board buses to complete their trips.

MTA LIRR Substitutes Bus Service For Trains On Montauk Branch Weekdays, October 18-October 23

The MTA Long Island Rail Road will provide bus service in place of trains on the Montauk Branch east of Babylon October 18 through October 23, in order to use the Sperry Rail Car to conduct special rail tests. The inspections will be conducted by the Sperry Rail Car, a bright yellow vehicle fitted with ultrasonic and induction test equipment, designed to detect internal rail defects not readily visible to the eye. Defects that are found will be corrected immediately by a crew of LIRR track maintenance workers.

MTA LIRR Track Work To Affect Weekday, Midday Service On West Hempstead Branch, Oct. 9-Nov. 9

The MTA Long Island Rail Road will be substituting bus service for trains as a track work program is completed on the West Hempstead Branch midday, weekdays from October 9 through November 9. Customers will take buses instead of trains between 9:14 AM and 3:50 PM during the work which includes installation of new track ties and resurfacing of track.

The MTA Long Island Rail Road's discount package to this year's Oyster Festival in Oyster Bay combined with extra train service to the event makes the LIRR a pearl of a way to Long Island's largest annual street and waterfront fair on Saturday and Sunday, October 13 and 14. MTA LIRR West Hempstead Branch Train Service Affected By Grade Crossing Renewal Work, Saturday, October 6

Train service on the MTA Long Island Rail Road's West Hempstead Branch will be temporarily suspended on Saturday, October 6, as renewal work is completed at the Eagle Avenue grade crossing in Lakeview. Customers will take buses from 12:01 AM, Saturday, October 6 through 12:01 AM, Sunday, October 7, to complete their trips.

Eastbound

Customers will board buses at the Valley Stream Station to complete their trips from Westwood through West Hempstead. Customers should anticipate increased travel time of up to 18 minutes.

MTA LIRR Montauk Branch Train Service Affected By Grade Crossing Renewal Programs October 9-12

The MTA Long Island Rail Road Montauk Branch midday train service between Sayville and Patchogue will be affected from Tuesday, October 9 through Friday, October 12, by grade crossing renewal work at the Gillette Avenue and River Road crossings. Some customers on trains between 10 AM and 4:30 PM on those days will take buses to complete their trips.
