MTA LIRR To Operate Additional Service For Passover (April 8 & 9) And Good Friday (April 10

The MTA Long Island Rail Road will operate eight additional eastbound trains from Penn Station, between 2:22 PM and 3:48 PM, for customers leaving work early in observance of Passover, April 8 & 9, and Good Friday, April 10. Each of these days, there will be three additional trains on the Babylon Branch, three on the Port Jefferson Branch, and one each on the Far Rockaway and Port Washington Branches.

The extra, afternoon service from Penn Station follows:

Buses Replace Midday West Hempstead Branch Trains During Sperry Rail Inspection Program On Monday April 13th

The MTA Long Island Rail Road will provide bus service in place of midday trains between West Hempstead and Valley Stream following the morning rush on Monday, April 13th in order to use the Sperry Rail Car to conduct special rail inspections. Two eastbound and two westbound trains will be affected.

MTA LIRR Asks Public To Help Name Two Retired Locomotives As Part Of Its 175th Anniversary Celebration

The MTA Long Island Rail Road is launching a contest to name two retired LIRR locomotives – No. 397 and No. 398 – that are being loaned to the Oyster Bay Railroad Museum as part of the yearlong celebration of the LIRR's 175th anniversary. The two mini locomotives were used as "switching locomotives" in the LIRR's Morris Park diesel servicing and repair yard in Richmond Hill, Queens.

The MTA Long Island Rail Road will stop regularly scheduled trains at Mets-Willets Point station stop this Sunday, April 5 for ticket holders to the Mets special workout between 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM.

MTA LIRR Provides Service To Mets New Citi Field Stadium

The MTA Long Island Rail Road remains the best way to get to Mets home games, although Mets fans will now have to remember some new names. First, Citi Field replaces Shea Stadium and the Long Island Rail Road stop has been renamed Mets-Willets Point.

Mets Tickets And $500 Shopping Spree Courtesy Of Macy's Herald Square Are Latest MTA LIRR 'Customer Appreciation Giveaways'

The MTA Long Island Rail Road revs up its 175th anniversary celebration by launching an online Customer Appreciation Giveaway Contest that will award one big prize each month for the rest of 2009. In April, the grand prize is a $500 shopping spree courtesy of Macy's Herald Square, well-known as the World's Largest Department Store.

Also, this month at Penn Station customers will have a chance to win four Mets tickets, courtesy of the New York Mets, for the May 9 game with the Pittsburgh Pirates.

LIRR SATURDAY TRAIN SERVICE REPLACED BY BUSES ON WEST HEMPSTEAD BRANCH DUE TO VALLEY STREAM TRACK WORK APRIL 4 & 18

This Saturday, April 4 and again on Saturday, April 18, buses will replace trains on the LIRR's West Hempstead Branch due to track work related to switch modernization in Valley Stream. The work involves maintenance of track components, including ties and rails, and replacement where necessary.

MTA LIRR Provides Service To Citi Field Opener, Sunday, March 29

The MTA Long Island Rail Road will provide service to the inaugural baseball game, a 1:10 PM start, at Citi Field on Sunday, March 29. The game pits St. John's University against Big East rival Georgetown University. Parking still remains limited, so taking the train is the best way to go.
