NYPA to Upgrade Grand Central Terminal Platform Lighting with Energy-Efficient LEDs

The New York Power Authority today announced that the Metro-North Railroad platforms throughout Grand Central Terminal will be upgraded with energy-efficient LED lighting. When complete, the $2.7 million lighting upgrade will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by more than 1,660 tons—the equivalent of taking approximately 350 cars off the road—and improve safety for the more than 750,000 travelers who visit the terminal every day.

Metro-North to Upgrade Middletown-Town of Walkill Station Parking Lot

MTA Metro-North Railroad today announced that West of Hudson customers can look forward to a smoother ride at the Middletown-Town of Walkill station. On July 23, Metro-North crews will begin work improving the station’s parking lot, restoring the facility to a state of good repair.

Metro-North Begins Replacement of Ossining Station Building Roof

MTA Metro-North Railroad today announced that crews will replace the Ossining Station building’s aging roof, while maintaining the integrity of this historic station.  The new roof will remediate issues with leaks in the station waiting area and increase the useful lifespan of the building.

The roof replacement work will not impact platform access or train schedules and, it will be accomplished with minimal disruption to the nearly 1,700 customers who use the station every week.

Metro-North Awarded Operation Lifesaver Grant for Rail Safety Education Program

MTA Metro-North Railroad today announced it’s been awarded an Operation Lifesaver grant to support TRACKS, a free community outreach program that covers grade crossing safety, rider safety, trespassing and suicide prevention.   TRACKS, an acronym for “Together Railroads And Communities Keeping Safe,” is designed for students, drivers, customers, pedestrians and residents who work and live in or around the communities Metro-North Railroad serves.

MTA Presents Photography Exhibit Showcasing Iconic New York City Buildings at Grand Central Terminal

MTA Arts and Design today announced that “Landmark City,” Marc Yankus’ new photography installation, has been put on view at Grand Central Terminal’s East Dining Concourse. The exhibit, to run for a year, presents a selection of New York City’s iconic landmark buildings through a unique lens that uses digital collage. Grand Central Terminal was designated a NYC landmark in 1967, ensuring that the Beaux Arts building would be preserved for future generations and this exhibition is a tribute to new York’s architectural heritage.

Connecticut Department of Transportation Roadwork to Affect Danbury Branch Service Weekends of July 19-21, and 26-28

MTA Metro-North Railroad advises customers that during the consecutive weekends of July 19-21 and 26-28, Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) crews will realign the intersection of Long Ridge Road and Simpaug Turnpike in Redding to correct a severe skew that has caused safety issues, primarily on the highway.

Metro-North Crews Continue Infrastructure Improvements to Port Jervis Line Weekends of July 12-14, and July 26-28

MTA Metro-North Railroad advises customers that crews will be out this weekend, July 12-14, as well as the weekend of July 26-28, replacing ties on the Moodna Viaduct, south of the Salisbury Mills station. The Moodna Viaduct has 2,300 individual bridge timbers and crews will continue work on this significant tie replacement project.

Elsewhere along the Port Jervis line, crews will install a new cab signal system west of Otisville, which is the latest phase in the complete upgrade of the signal system.

Metro-North Railroad Announces Restoration of Regular New Haven Main Line Service for Tomorrow Morning Rush Hour

MTA Metro-North Railroad today announced that the railroad is restoring full New Haven Main Line service on Monday morning, July 8, following the completion of work to rebuild three of five main line tracks that had been out of service for nine days for the Connecticut Department of Transportation’s project to rebuild the Atlantic Street Bridge in downtown Stamford.

Connecticut Department of Transportation to Extend Replacement Work on Atlantic Street Bridge in Stamford

MTA Metro-North Railroad advises New Haven Line customers that Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) crews will continue their work replacing the Atlantic Street Bridge located at the east end of the Stamford station.  To accommodate the extension of this CTDOT project, the special New Haven Line schedule that took effect on June 29, will continue an additional 48 hours, through Tuesday, July 9.

Regular service on the New Haven Line will resume with the first scheduled train on Wednesday, July 10.

Make Your Fourth of July Getaway on Metro-North Railroad

Declare your independence from traffic and tolls this Fourth of July holiday and take Metro-North to celebrate our nation's birthday. Metro-North Railroad will have lots of extra service on Wednesday, July 3, to help customers looking to get a jump start on the holiday.  

On Wednesday, July 3, there are 13 extra "getaway" departures from Grand Central Terminal between 1 p.m. and 4:11 p.m. as detailed below.

On Thursday, July 4, Metro-North will operate on a Sunday schedule. Grand Central North will be closed.
