MTA, SUNY, CUNY and Microsoft Launch Virtual Hackathon to Improve Real-Time Seating Information for Metro-North Railroad Customers

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA), State University of New York (SUNY), City University of New York (CUNY) and Microsoft today launched a new virtual hackathon that will seek to harness the remarkable creativity and tech skills of students and professionals in the New York metropolitan region to improve real-time train seating availability information for Metro-North Railroad customers. Registration for the virtual hackathon, which is open to students and tech professionals, begins today and will run through Thursday, July 9.

Metro-North Schedule Change On Hudson, Harlem and New Haven Lines to Increase Service

MTA Metro-North Railroad today announced schedule changes on the Hudson, Harlem and New Haven Lines beginning June 15 as trains increase in frequency to accommodate the region’s Phase 1 reopening.  The schedule change will further increase overall service to 61% of the Metro-North normal weekday schedule.

Metro-North Railroad to Begin Demolition and Reconstruction of Third Avenue Bridge in Mount Vernon

MTA Metro-North Railroad today announced that it will close the Third Avenue Bridge in Mount Vernon to pedestrians starting on Wednesday, April 29. The closure will allow demolition to start in order to replace the nearly 120-year-old bridge. The Third Avenue Bridge carries traffic and pedestrians over the New Haven Line between 1st Street and Fiske Place in downtown Mount Vernon. The bridge is already closed to vehicular traffic.
