Metro-North Track Crew Breaks Historic Rail Maintenance Record

MTA Metro-North Railroad has set a new track record. A Metro-North Railroad crew working on the Waterbury Branch on October 9 safely installed a record breaking 1,161 railroad ties in a single day, surpassing by two ties the previous record set in 1984 between Brewster and Dover Plains on the Harlem Line.

MTA Metro-North Railroad today announced that crews will install Positive Train Control equipment between Wassaic and Southeast from Wednesday, October 17, through Sunday, October 21, which will result in temporary service changes on the upper Harlem Line.

Metro-North Crews to Make Improvements to Upper Hudson Line on Saturday, October 13

MTA Metro-North Railroad advises customers that on Saturday, October 13, crews will continue making improvements to the upper Hudson Line in the area between Cortlandt and Peekskill.  Crews will resurface switches between Peekskill and Cortlandt, weld track joints and cut trees.   

This track work will require single-track operation for a distance of 11.5 miles between the area north of Croton-Harmon and Manitou, resulting in minor schedule adjustments for certain trains on Saturday, October 13.

Metro-North to Make Comprehensive Improvements and Safety Upgrades to Waterbury Branch from Monday, October 8, Through Friday, October 12

Metro-North Railroad advises customers that from Monday, October 8, through Friday, October 12, Metro-North crews will make safety upgrades and comprehensive improvements to the Waterbury Branch. 

Crews will install antenna poles that are required in order to make Positive Train Control operational on the branch. Positive Train Control is a technology designed to reduce the potential for human error that can lead to train-involved accidents.

Metro-North Railroad is asking kids to get creative about safety. The Metropolitan Transportation Authority today announced that Metro-North is holding a Rail Safety Poster Contest for students who attend schools within Metro-North’s territory throughout New York and Connecticut.

Metro-North Enters Final Phase of Rebuilding Train Shop at Core of Railroad Operations

MTA Metro-North Railroad today announced that the MTA Board approved a contract to Skanska-ECCO for the final phase of rebuilding Metro-North Railroad’s Croton-Harmon Shops and Yard complex, a facility that was built in the early 1900’s and is crucial to railroad operations.

Metro-North Crews to Make Improvements to Moodna Viaduct

MTA Metro-North Railroad advises customers that crews will be out this weekend replacing ties on the Moodna Viaduct, south of the Salisbury Mills station. The Moodna Viaduct has 2,300 individual bridge timbers, and this weekend crews will continue work on this significant tie replacement project.  Crews will also replace a track switch that allows trains to move from one track to another.

Metro-North Installs New Haverstraw Ferry Dock

Metro-North Railroad today announced that, working with its ferry contractor, NYWaterway, it has replaced the aging Haverstraw Ferry Dock with a new, safer, modern structure. The new dock is located at the same location as the original, but occupies a smaller footprint than its predecessor, which was nearly two decades old and long past its useful life. The new dock has a 20-year expected useful life.
