The Park Avenue Bridge in Mount Vernon to Close for Reconstruction

The century-old Park Avenue Bridge in Mount Vernon, which carries vehicular traffic over the Metro-North Railroad's New Haven Line, will close for reconstruction on Monday December 7.

Funding for the $10 million project was provided by Governor David A. Paterson to the New York State Department of Transportation from money allocated as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

Midday Busing on Port Jervis Ends but Signal Work Planned November 20-21

Today is the last day of midday busing on the Port Jervis Branch, but beginning at 10 p.m. tonight through noon Saturday, November 21, Metro-North and NJ Transit signal maintainers will be upgrading the signals in the area of Harriman station and this may cause delays of 10 to 15 minutes.

During this work, trains will operate at slower speeds, resulting in expected delays.

Three trains will be affected on Friday, November 20. They are the 9:28 p.m. from Port Jervis to Hoboken, the 9:58 p.m. and the 12:40 a.m. from Hoboken to Port Jervis.

MTA Metro-North Railroad Offers Special Thanksgiving Weekend Schedule

MTA Metro-North Railroad's Thanksgiving weekend schedule is bulging with trains to get people around for the long four-day weekend.

Every great menu features an appetizer, so on Thanksgiving Eve Wednesday, November 25, Metro-North will operate extra early getaway trains, beginning at 1 p.m., so customers can take flight to start holiday preparations. Because of the early getaway, fewer people are taking trains during the traditional evening peak, so some trains will be combined or eliminated. See a current October 18 timetable for details on early getaway service.

Construction Begins for Cortlandt Station, Parking and Access Improvements

Cortlandt Town Supervisor Linda Puglisi, MTA Metro-North President Howard Permut and local and state officials held a ground breaking ceremony today to mark the start of construction at the Cortlandt Station for expanded station facilities including an extended overpass and new elevated waiting area, a new western parking lot and an access road connecting to a new Route 9A intersection.

Radio City Rockettes Kick-Off Metro-North Promotion at Grand Central And Croton-Harmon and Stamford Stations Too

The Rockettes will be kicking up their heels this Saturday November 14 over Metro-North's Radio City Christmas Spectacular discount ticket promotion.

The high-steppers will step off at Stamford and Croton-Harmon train stations at 10 a.m., then travel aboard trains to Grand Central—meeting and greeting Metro-North customers aboard.

The chorine-bearing trains will arrive at tracks 23 and 25 at 11:35 a.m., with a promotions display set-up between Tracks 29 and 30.

Danbury Branch Weekend Busing for November 14 & 15

Buses will replace Danbury Branch train service on Saturday, November 14 and Sunday, November 15, 2009 to accommodate work on the Reed Street Bridge and the Triangle Street at-grade crossing.

Buses will follow train schedules.

Veterans Day Observed in Grand Central November 11, at 11 a.m.

A traditional and reverential ceremony will be observed in the main concourse of Grand Central Terminal this Veterans Day, November 11 at 11 a.m.

Employees of MTA Metro-North Railroad who have served in the American armed services present the American flag, the Pledge of Allegiance, the playing of taps, and the laying of a wreath. Accompanying this will be the sound of bagpipes echoing through the 22,000 square foot, landmarked main concourse.

New West of Hudson Timetables In Effect

Following construction season track improvements, new West of Hudson schedules went into effect on Sunday, November 8, 2009.

On the Port Jervis Line: With the completion of work on the interlocking at Harriman, travel times have been reduced by one minute on westbound trips from Harriman to Port Jervis.

On the Pascack Valley Line: Look for a new inbound train for the "night owl" crowd. The new train departs Spring Valley at 11:26 p.m., making all local stops, arriving Hoboken at 12:43 a.m. and Penn Station-NY (via Secaucus Junction) at 12:56 a.m.

MTA Metro-North Railroad Adds Trains For Yankees Parade Tomorrow

MTA Metro-North Railroad is adding trains tomorrow to accommodate baseball fans who want to attend the tickertape parade for the World Champion New York Yankees up the "Canyon of Heroes" on Lower Broadway.

On the Hudson Line, an extra train will depart Poughkeepsie at 8:41 a.m. and make stops at New Hamburg, Beacon and Peekskill then go express to Grand Central, arriving at 10:11 a.m.

Going home, there will be an extra Poughkeepsie express departing Grand Central at 2:40 p.m.

In Less Than Six Months, Popularity of New Yankees-E. 153rd Street Station Surges

MTA Metro-North Railroad set a new record for ridership last night when 6,009 people took the train to the game at the new Yankees – E. 153rd Street Station to attend the World Series clincher. Of the 50,315 attendees, 12% arrived via Metro-North!

The previous highest ridership of the 2009 baseball season was August 8, when 5,582 fans took Metro-North to the Yankees-Red Sox game.
