New customers by the thousands have been using Metro-North's Poughkeepsie train station on Saturdays. In fact, the number of customers on Saturday mornings has exploded - from 1,150 in 2004, to more than 3,200 customers this past Saturday. And that's just during the morning hours.

At 23 Metro-North stations, you may be met with an Enterprise car, or by an Enterprise representative who will drive you to your rented automobile. Enterprise offers daily rates, or even by the hour. And Metro-North customers also receive a 5% discount off normal rental costs.

MTA Metro-North Railroad Has a Seat for You This Thanksgiving

MTA Metro-North Railroad wants to make your Thanksgiving travel a little less hectic with off-peak fares and a special four-day holiday timetable for the most traveled holiday of the year, and free weekend and holiday parking is available at many train stations.

The holiday getaway begins Wednesday the day before Thanksgiving, November 21st, with 17 additional trains departing Grand Central Terminal between 1 p.m. and 4:10 p.m. in addition to the regular weekday schedule.

MTA Metro-North Railroad Shows First Tandem Wheel Truing Lathe in North America

A new machine that keeps train wheels perfectly round for a safe, smooth ride has been installed at the Harmon Shop, Metro-North Railroad's largest maintenance facility located in Croton-on-Hudson, NY.

The tandem, underfloor wheel truing lathe was demonstrated today to representatives from transit agencies all over the country eager to see the new, state-of-the-art technology. It "trues" two axles at once, twice as fast as existing machines and the first of its kind in North America.

"Be in Beacon" Says Metro-North and the Community, Looking to Create a Destination in and of Itself

The MTA Metro-North Railroad is inviting developers to "Be in Beacon" by becoming future partners in a Transit Oriented Development (TOD) on approximately 18 acres at the Beacon Station in Dutchess County, NY on the Upper Hudson Line. The Request for Expression of Interest (RFEI) being issued today by MTA Metro-North, titled "Be in Beacon," represents an opportunity to participate in a process to conceive and create a landmark Transit Oriented Development that will serve as a catalyst for development, linking the riverfront area to downtown Beacon.

STV will study the technology requirements, installation needs, components, and interconnectivity for more-and more diverse-information on arrival and departure displays screens.

Rocklanders to Enjoy Huge Service Improvements on the Pascack Valley Line: Sunday and Off-peak Trains to Run for First time in Sixty Years

For the first time in 60 years, Rocklanders will be able to take a train on the Pascack Valley Line on Sundays, beginning Sunday October 28, 2007 when new timetables go into effect.

MTA Metro-North Railroad also is adding midday trains on weekdays and evenings. And for the first time in 40 years, there will be Saturday train service too.

The new service was celebrated on Sunday October 21 with a special train that carried dignitaries and railroad officials from Hoboken to North Hackensack and Pearl River, where speaking programs were attended by local officials.

Autumn Leaves Provide Tricks But No Treats for Metro-North

When fall leaves fall, they create "slip-slide" conditions that can result in service delays and damage to train wheels.

MTA Metro-North Railroad will use several techniques this season that should help combat "slip-slide," which is caused by a slimy, slippery residue left on the rails when fallen leaves are crushed by the train wheels. This goo gets even more slippery when it rains and can hinder a train's ability to speed up or slow down as its wheels skid along the rails.
