Metro-North Completes Comprehensive Improvements to Port Jervis Line

Metro-North today announced that the railroad completed comprehensive infrastructure improvement projects to the Port Jervis Line, between Port Jervis and Harriman, which got underway on September 11.

With the projects complete, buses will no longer need to substitute for weekday, off-peak trains between Port Jervis and Harriman. Friday, November 17 is the last day that buses will substitute for trains, and regular train service on the Port Jervis Line resumes on Monday, November 20.

REMINDER: Metro-North and Hudson River Valley Greenway Invite Community to Public Meetings about Proposed Beacon Line Rail Trail in Putnam and Dutchess Counties

MTA Metro-North Railroad and the Hudson River Valley Greenway invite local leaders, trail groups, interested organizations, and members of the public to attend one of two important public information meetings tonight, Monday November 13 and tomorrow night, Tuesday, November 14, to seek input on the creation of the Beacon Line Rail Trail, a vital segment of the new Empire State Trail, Trail, a 750-mile bike and walking pathway from New York City to Canada and from Albany to Buffalo that is being built under the leadership of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo, and will be completed in 2020.

Removal of Tappan Zee Bridge Span to Impact Metro-North Service from Late Friday Evening, November 10, Through, Early Saturday Morning, November 11

MTA Metro-North Railroad advises customers that from Friday evening, November 10, through Saturday morning, November 11, Tappan Zee Constructors will remove a span of the retired Tappan Zee Bridge deck above the Hudson Line in Tarrytown as part of the New NY Bridge project. This work is necessary in order to complete construction of the second span of the new Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge, a 3.1-mile state-of-the-art crossing. All traffic is now on the first span of the new bridge.

Metro-North Offers Special Fall Foliage Service on Saturday, November 4

Back by popular demand….it’s Metro-North’s special fall foliage service. Metro-North Railroad today announced that on Saturday, November 4, it will run five additional Hudson Line trains for leaf peepers, hikers and day-trippers to experience autumn in the Valley.

Metro-North offered the additional leaf peeping service last Saturday, and it was a great success, with four times the ridership compared to a non-leaf peeping weekend. Make a day of it, take in the brilliant fall colors and explore Metro-North getaways to regional cultural and scenic destinations.

Metro-North to Perform Ultrasonic Rail Testing Between Southeast and Wassaic on Tuesday, October 31, and Wednesday, November 1

MTA Metro-North Railroad today announced that it will perform ultrasonic rail testing on the Upper Harlem Line on Tuesday, October 31, and Wednesday, November 1. Metro-North will put the specialized Sperry Rail car into action on the section of track between Southeast and Wassaic. The railroad uses this high-tech piece of equipment to detect defects and metal fatigue inside the steel rails, inspecting them with ultrasonic and induction test equipment. The Sperry Rail car identifies issues before they become major problems, resulting in a safer, smoother ride and more reliable service.

Metro-North to Renew a Track Switch Between Campbell Hall and Middletown and Resurface Port Jervis Line Rails

MTA Metro-North Railroad track maintenance crews will install a new switch between Campbell Hall and Middletown this coming weekend, Oct. 27-29, and will resurface track on the Port Jervis Line to provide a safer, smoother ride. As a result of the work, buses will substitute for trains between Harriman and Port Jervis from late Friday evening, October 27, until Sunday evening, October 29.

Buses will follow train schedules, substituting for the following trains:

Metro-North to Make Upper Harlem Line Improvements from Friday Evening, October 20, Through Sunday, October 22

MTA Metro-North Railroad today announced that crews will perform critical work between Wassaic and Southeast this weekend, October 20-22. Metro-North crews are renewing the Cornwall Hill Road grade crossing in Patterson, replacing the crossing surface, rails and ties. Elsewhere along the tracks, crews will cut brush and weld rail joints.

To accommodate this track work, after 10 p.m. on Friday, October 20, buses will replace trains at all stations between Wassaic and Southeast. Normal train service will resume with the first scheduled train of Monday, October 23.
