Metro-North to Make Comprehensive Improvements and Safety Upgrades to Waterbury Branch from Monday, October 8, Through Friday, October 12

Metro-North Railroad advises customers that from Monday, October 8, through Friday, October 12, Metro-North crews will make safety upgrades and comprehensive improvements to the Waterbury Branch. 

Crews will install antenna poles that are required in order to make Positive Train Control operational on the branch. Positive Train Control is a technology designed to reduce the potential for human error that can lead to train-involved accidents.

Metro-North Railroad is asking kids to get creative about safety. The Metropolitan Transportation Authority today announced that Metro-North is holding a Rail Safety Poster Contest for students who attend schools within Metro-North’s territory throughout New York and Connecticut.

Metro-North Enters Final Phase of Rebuilding Train Shop at Core of Railroad Operations

MTA Metro-North Railroad today announced that the MTA Board approved a contract to Skanska-ECCO for the final phase of rebuilding Metro-North Railroad’s Croton-Harmon Shops and Yard complex, a facility that was built in the early 1900’s and is crucial to railroad operations.

Metro-North Crews to Make Improvements to Moodna Viaduct

MTA Metro-North Railroad advises customers that crews will be out this weekend replacing ties on the Moodna Viaduct, south of the Salisbury Mills station. The Moodna Viaduct has 2,300 individual bridge timbers, and this weekend crews will continue work on this significant tie replacement project.  Crews will also replace a track switch that allows trains to move from one track to another.

Metro-North Railroad advises customers that from Monday, October 1, through the evening of Friday, October 5, Metro-North crews will make safety upgrades and comprehensive improvements to the Danbury Branch.  Crews will install antenna poles that are required in order to make Positive Train Control operational on the branch.  Positive Train Control   is a technology designed to reduce the potential for human error that can lead to train-involved accidents.

Metro-North Installs New Haverstraw Ferry Dock

Metro-North Railroad today announced that, working with its ferry contractor, NYWaterway, it has replaced the aging Haverstraw Ferry Dock with a new, safer, modern structure. The new dock is located at the same location as the original, but occupies a smaller footprint than its predecessor, which was nearly two decades old and long past its useful life. The new dock has a 20-year expected useful life.

Minor Metro-North Schedules Take Effect on Sunday, September 30

Metro-North Railroad announced that minor schedule adjustments to certain Harlem, Hudson, New Haven Line trains, as well as Pascack Velley and Port Jervis Line trains, will take effect on Sunday, September 30.   

The slight adjustment to train schedules will improve connection times.  As part of this schedule adjustment, Metro-North will offer extra “Fall Foliage” trains and provide increased service for the upcoming holiday season.

Metro-North First Railroad in North America to Achieve Internationally Recognized Certification for Energy Efficiency

The MTA today announced that Metro-North has become the first railroad in North America to achieve ISO-50001 Certification, an internationally recognized framework that guides and supports organizations to manage energy more efficiently.

As an ISO certified railroad, Metro-North is not only doing its part to preserve the environment for future generations, the railroad is reducing its operating expenses. The certification puts Metro-North on a path to save $2 million annually by 2020 and further reduce its carbon footprint.

Replacement of Science Road Railroad Crossing in Norwalk Gets Underway Weekend of September 14-16

Metro-North Railroad advises customers that this weekend, September 14-17, Connecticut Department of Transportation crews will replace the railroad crossing on Science Road in Norwalk. Metro-North crews will take advantage of this work to weld track and trim trees.

Metro-North Crews to Make Improvements to Upper Hudson Line Weekends of September 15-16 and September 22-23

MTA Metro-North Railroad today announced that during the weekends of September 15-16 and September 22-23, crews will make improvements to the upper Harlem Line in the area between Cortlandt and Peekskill.  Crews will be out surfacing the interlocking near Cortlandt station and welding track, which will help ensure that customers enjoy a smooth ride and safe, reliable service.
