MTA Railroads to Provide Special Service on St. Patrick’s Day

The Long Island Rail Road and Metro-North Railroad will operate extra trains to help those traveling to New York City for the 254th St. Patrick’s Day Parade on Tuesday, March 17.

Customers are advised not to bring alcoholic beverages, open or closed, on trains, platforms and stations through 5 a.m. on March 18. Alcoholic beverages will be confiscated by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) Police. Bar carts at Grand Central and Penn Station will not operate this day.

MTA Service on Presidents’ Day Holiday

Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) trains and buses will operate on special schedules in observance of Presidents’ Day on Monday.

New York City Subways and Buses

On Presidents’ Day, Monday, February 16, New York City subways and buses will operate on a Saturday schedule with some planned subway service changes:

Limited-Edition MetroCards Herald 2015 NBA All-Star Game in New York

The National Basketball Association is celebrating the All-Star Game’s return to New York with a new branded MetroCard touting the city’s two home basketball teams, the New York Knicks and the Brooklyn Nets. The city last hosted the NBA All-Star Game in 1998.

The NBA has purchased a double-sided ad run of 600,000 MetroCards for distribution ahead of the 64th annual All-Star Game weekend on February 13 to 15. Game-related events will take place at Madison Square Garden in Manhattan, Barclays Center in Brooklyn, as well as other locations throughout the city.

MTA Announces Schedules for 26 Extra LIRR and Metro-North Departures This Afternoon; Service Expected to End at 11 p.m.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) today announced schedule details for 26 extra trains that are being added to LIRR and Metro-North schedules this afternoon. The trains are departing from Penn Station and Grand Central Terminal, and are intended to help those commuters who want to leave work early ahead of the forecast major winter storm. In addition, 14 Metro-North trains that would normally depart Grand Central after 5 p.m. will be canceled or combined with other trains as noted below. Both railroads expect to suspend service as of 11 p.m.

MTA Prepares for Weekend Winter Storm

With a wintry blast that may dump as much as 7 inches of snow in parts of the metropolitan region, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority is hard at work to ensure safe, reliable service this weekend. MTA New York City Transit, Metro-North Railroad, Long Island Rail Road, and MTA Bridges and Tunnels are once again preparing. Personnel will be ready to drop salt and clear platforms and stairs of snow but customers are urged to use extreme caution while navigating the system.

MTA Board Approves Limited Fare and Toll Increases

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) Board today approved increasing fares and tolls by 4% over the next two years, fulfilling a promise to keep fare and toll increases as low as possible. The new fares and tolls will take effect March 22, and will ensure the MTA can continue providing quality service even as ridership continues to climb.
