Metro-North and LIRR in Full Compliance with Federal Safety Advisory

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) today announced that as a result of work completed in March 2014 in response to the Federal Railroad Administration’s Emergency Order 29, MTA Long Island Rail Road and MTA Metro-North Railroad are already in compliance with the recommendations made today to all U.S. passenger railroads by the Federal Railroad Administration in its Safety Advisory 2015-03.

MTA Police to Participate in Railroad Crossing Awareness Day Tomorrow, Wednesday, June 3

Members of the media wishing to capture images and video of Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) Police Officers and railroad officials educating the public about railroad crossing safety can do so tomorrow morning at seven locations throughout the region. MTA Police Officers will be educating motorists, pedestrians and train customers by providing safety information at railroad crossings and train stations. They may also issue summonses or written warnings if any safety violations are observed.

MTA Begins Training Staff to Operate Trains to New 7 Line Extension

MTA New York City Transit has started training tower operators, train dispatchers and train operators how to safely route and operate trains to and from the new 34 St-Hudson Yards station, one of the last steps as the MTA prepares to open the newly constructed 7 Subway Line Icon Line Extension later this summer. MTA Announces Service Plans for Memorial Day Weekend

Memorial Day is coming on Monday, May 25, which means the MTA will add extra trains on Friday, May 22, to help New Yorkers get an early start on the long three-day weekend. On Memorial Day, most MTA services will operate on Sunday schedules. Details are below.

70 Groups, Performers Vie to Join MTA’s Music Under New York Program

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) today announced that Music Under New York’s 28th annual auditions will be held on May 19, 2015, in Grand Central Terminal, setting the stage for a day of great performances featuring local talent in Vanderbilt Hall.

Seventy soloists and groups are expected to participate in the auditions for Music Under New York (MTA MUSIC). MTA Arts & Design administers the MTA MUSIC program, which presents more than 7,500 performances annually within the subway and MTA commuter railroad environment.

MTA’s Transportation Revenue Bond Credit Rated “AA+”

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) today announced that bonds issued through its Transportation Revenue Bond (TRB) credit have been rated AA+ by the Kroll Bond Rating Agency in its inaugural assessment. AA+ is among the rating agency’s highest possible measures of debt creditworthiness, and it is an indication that MTA bonds have been “determined to have minimal risk of loss due to credit-related events,” and that MTA bonds “are deemed very high quality.”

Governor Cuomo Announces Federal Railroad Administration Approves $1 Billion Loan to MTA to Improve LIRR & Metro-North Signal System Safety

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo announced that the Federal Railroad Administration has approved a loan of $967.1 million to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority for the improvement of the safety of the signal systems used by the MTA's two commuter railroads, the Long Island Rail Road and Metro-North Railroad. The loan, which is the largest and lowest-cost financing for the MTA, will finance the installment of positive train control, a technology designed to remove the potential for human error that can lead to train-involved accidents.
