Statement from MTA Chairman Joseph Lhota

“It is befuddling that the Mayor praised the MTA repair plan, but said he would not agree to fund it 50/50 with the State. One half of a repair plan won’t make the trains run on time. The MTA is looking for the city to be a funding partner that assists the 6 million New Yorkers, the mayor's constituents, who use the subway.

“The Mayor is also putting up smoke screens suggesting the State took money from the MTA. The opposite is true. The City has underfunded the MTA for years while the State has provided record funding levels to $5 billion this year.

Statement from Former Federal Railroad Administrator Sarah Feinberg

"A healthy transit system is critical to the economic viability of New York. I applaud Chairman Lhota for putting forward a clear, strategic plan to improve the reliability of the subways and address the most critical issues currently plaguing the system. We have a plan - but in order to be successful that plan now needs resources and partnership from state and local governments. Commuters, travelers and tourists deserve nothing less."

Statement from Former Mayor David N. Dinkins

“The subway is the lifeblood of our city. During my time as mayor, I saw firsthand how critical the viability and reliability of the subway system is to New Yorkers and as the economic engine of our city. I am proud to stand with Chairman Lhota and the rest of the Advisory Board as we work together to stabilize and improve the current system. We need all our elected leaders to work together to implement these smart solutions and provide New Yorkers with the safe, reliable and modern subway they deserve.”
