MTA Board Approves Additional Funding For Subway Station ADA-Accessibility

The MTA Board approved a capital plan amendment today that significantly increases the agency’s investment in ADA accessibility projects as part of the 2015-2019 MTA capital plan. The amendment also includes $300 million to undertake critical station improvements – in close partnership with the City of New York – at key locations, including $200 million for accessibility enhancements such as elevators, and $100 million for station circulation enhancements such as redesigned stairs, mezzanines and platforms.

Alcohol to Be Banned From Metro-North and LIRR Trains;

Railroads to Operate Many Extra Trains

With New York City’s annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade scheduled for Saturday, March 17, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) reminds customers that alcohol will be banned from the Long Island Rail Road and Metro-North Railroad. The LIRR and Metro-North will offer extra trains to help customers get to the parade and subway and bus service changes will be in place for the day. Details follow.

Thirteen canine and police officer teams graduated from MTA Police Department explosives detection and anti-terrorism training this morning at a ceremony at Grand Central Terminal. The canines are now official officers of the MTA PD and have small police shields affixed to their collars.

LIRR and Metro-North to Impose Alcohol Ban for 2017 SantaCon Event

To maintain orderly travel and safe station and terminal operations during this weekend’s SantaCon event, alcohol will not be permitted on MTA Long Island Rail Road and MTA Metro-North Railroad trains and in stations from noon on Saturday, December 9, through noon on Sunday, December 10. The timeframe overlaps with the Long Island Rail Road’s usual ban on alcohol between midnight and 5 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights.
