Governor Cuomo Unveils Design of Reimagined MTA Subway Cars and Details Ambitious Plan to Enhance Subway Stations

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today unveiled the design features of 1,025 new and reimagined subway cars – including vital enhancements to the exteriors and interiors of regular cars, wider doors, as well as the addition of up to 750 “Open Car End” designed-cars, which will reduce wait times and increase capacity. The Governor also previewed key elements that will be featured in the renovation of 31 subway stations throughout the New York Metropolitan Area, and announced that the first of several Requests for Proposals will be issued this week.

Governor Cuomo Announces Accelerated Rollout of the MTA eTix Mobile Ticketing App

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced the accelerated rollout of MTA eTix, a free MTA app that will allow Long Island Rail Road and Metro-North Railroad customers to purchase train tickets anytime, anywhere with their mobile devices. The app, which was scheduled for completion by the end of 2016, will now be available to all riders of both railroads by the end of this summer.

MTACC Welcomes 20,000th Visitor as it Unveils Latest SAS Exhibit

MTA Capital Construction unveiled its latest exhibit entitled Second Avenue Subway: Phase 2 and Beyond, at the Second Avenue Subway Community Information Center (CIC), shortly before the facility’s 20,000th visitor crossed the threshold.

The new exhibit gives an in-depth look into the next phase of the Second Avenue Subway. Highlighting the history, the construction process, and the connectivity to the existing system, this exhibit illustrates how important Phase 2 is, not only for Manhattan, but for the entire NYC Metropolitan area.

MTA Details Service for Fourth of July Holiday Weekend

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) will offer extra railroad service on Friday, July 1, to allow customers to get a head start a long Fourth of July weekend.  OnMonday, July 4, subways, buses and Metro-North will operate on a Saturday schedule. The Long Island Rail Road and the Staten Island Railway will operate on a Sunday schedule. More details are below.

Celebrate the NY Transit Museum's 40th Anniversary

On July 4th, 1976, a group of New York City Transit employees opened the “New York Transit Exhibit” as part of the United States Bicentennial year celebrations. Housed in the decommissioned Court Street Station, the exhibit allowed visitors to climb aboard fifteen vintage subway and elevated cars and explore a variety of exhibits dedicated to the rich and sprawling history of mass transportation in New York City. Only scheduled to be open for two months, the exhibit was so popular that its run was continually extended – for the next thirteen years.

Governor Cuomo Announces Award of Key Contracts in LIRR Double Track Project

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced that two design-build contracts have been awarded for work that will significantly advance the Long Island Rail Road’s Double Track project. When completed, the project will dramatically increase capacity of the Ronkonkoma Branch along 18 miles between Farmingdale and Ronkonkoma. The addition of the second track will allow the LIRR to provide more frequent off-peak service to the Ronkonkoma Branch in both directions and will increase flexibility and reduce delays associated with service disruptions.

MTA Arts & Design Adds 27 Acts to Music Under New York Program

MTA Arts & Design has invited 27 groups and performers to join the Music Under New York program (MTA MUSIC) following a competitive applications process and auditions that were held in May.

These 27 musical acts join a roster of more than 350 performers and groups that are hosted at select high-traffic areas in the New York City Transit system and at MTA commuter rail stations.
